RESIDENTIALSTAFF & FACULTY

Faculty in Residence

Laura Baker

Laura Baker received her PhD in psychology from the University of Colorado in 1983. She joined the USC psychology faculty in 1984, where she specializes in behavioral genetics and individual differences. Baker’s research involves the study of genetic and environmental influences in human behavior, with a focus on aggressive and antisocial behavior. She teaches courses in behavioral genetics, statistics, and human sexuality, and has a forthcoming course on the neurobiology of consciousness. She lives in Webb Tower on the ground floor in Room 108 along with her cat, Sophie. Her three kids are here from time to time as well, including two sons, Colin (USC 2014) and Cameron (Willamette 2017), and a daughter, Morgan (Tufts 2012), who recently finished her PhD in math at the University of Utah.

Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience

Assistant Director

Debra Allen

Residential College Coordinator

Erin Ash

Graduate Residential College Coordinator

Debra Allen received her master’s in higher education and student affairs from Ohio State University and her bachelor’s in anthropology and modern languages at Beloit College. Her student affairs experience spans residence life, international education, student union programming, leadership development, honors and scholar programs, service-learning, and social justice work. She spent several years working at Ohio State and most recently comes to USC from Cal State Northridge, where she worked as a senior community director for six years. At Cal State Northridge, she focused on the first-year experience living learning community and managed the residential students’ community center. She has also been an active member of the Western Association of College and University Housing Officers since 2010. In her spare time, Allen likes to go on hikes and bike rides with her pup Pete, attend live music venues, go to the beach, and explore her hometown of Los Angeles. Erin Ash received a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with a master’s in college student affairs leadership from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She loves working with the passionate and driven students at USC and enjoys that each day brings new challenges and opportunities to both teach and learn from her students. She takes a lot of pride in being a resource, mentor, advocate, and sounding board for her residents and the resident assistant staff in the department. She works to ensure that every member of the residential community transitions seamlessly, makes the most of their college experience both inside and outside of the classroom, feels a sense of belonging on campus, and learns the value of living with authenticity, passion, resilience and empathy. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring LA, hiking, photography, evening runs, live music, bonfires, documentaries, and all things Wisconsin (Go Pack Go). Selina Smith is 24 years old, and describes herself as a curly haired scholar, a Mexican, and Black and proud. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in strategic public relations. She recently graduated from California State University East Bay, with a major in communication and minors in recreation and African American studies. During her time at East Bay, she was heavily involved in Greek life and had the pleasure of working as a resident assistant for three years. She also enjoyed working with Trapxart and Run The World Clothing, two Bay Area startups. When she has time to herself, Smith enjoys hanging out with my sorority sisters, binge watching Netflix, getting pedicures, working out, and “vibing out.” Originally from San Bernardino, CA, Smith is eager to find what southern California has in store for her after being in the Bay Area for six years.
