STI testing recommendations are based on population, and specific sexual practices.

Relative risk and prevalence of infections change over time and can affect population groups differently.

Recommendations are as follows:

CHLAMYDIA (urine test, if you have genital sex)

GONORRHEA (urine test, if you have genital sex)

For anatomically male people in the LGBTQ+ community.

For all sexually active people.

HIV (at least once, then based on risk)

SYPHILIS (at least once, then based on risk)

4. GO TO THE LAB

Lab services are in Engemann/Eric Cohen Student Health Centers.

• Hold off urinating (peeing) in the hour prior to lab visit.

• Note on cost: Lab costs are billed to your insurance (the primary holder on the insurance will receive a notification of use of services, without specific details); you may also opt to have the charges added to your student account.

5. RESULTS

You will see your lab results in MySHR. If you have any questions about your sexual health, remember you can always send a secure message to the Advice Nurse (secure messaging feature in MySHR) or call our 24/7 phone line to reach us, 213-740-9355 (WELL).
