Alcohol and Other Drugs: Resources for Education and Help USC provides resources for students to learn more about substance use prevention– conveniently on and off campus. Here are some ways students can access services: • The university has an arrangement with the Haven at College so students may receive educational sessions to examine drinking or drug habits: ° BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Interview for College Students) is designed to help students make better decisions about using alcohol. The program’s style is empathic and aims to 1) reduce alcohol consumption and its adverse consequences, 2) promote healthier choices among young adults, and 3) provide important information and coping skills for reducing risk. ° CASICS (Cannabis Screening and Interview for College Students) provides similar education on cannabis. • Talk to your health care provider; medical and mental health providers in USC Student Health can provide you with the medical facts of alcohol and other drugs as they may impact your health, and support in getting started with recovery. You can schedule an appointment in MySHR, or secure message the Advice Nurse to ask a question. • Naloxone SC is a student-run program of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) chapter at the USC School of Pharmacy. They educate students on how to use and receive a naloxone kit, which is an opioid overdose reversal and lifesaving medication for emergencies. CPNP also offers workshops by Zoom, and when COVID restrictions lift, in person trainings and education. • In partnership with the Jed Foundation, a self-paced module called “Mental Well-being for Students” (available by logging in through TrojanLearn) is helpful for students to check in on their overall well-being and emotional health. • Office of Religious Life hosts an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) group, a twelve-step program that offers assistance in recovery from alcoholism. • SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) is a national website where students can find other valuable services on treatment. Our professional team of medical and mental health experts can help you with exceptional care and support.
