Since 2003, corps, centers, and commands have enjoyed some wonderful events and projects with our Partners in Mission (PIM). International Headquarters has initiated some changes to the Partners in Mission program, and we are pleased to announce that at the beginning of the World Services giving year in May 2012, we have the exciting opportunity to partner with 5 new Partner in Mission locations: Caribbean Territory, India South Eastern Territory, Kenya East Territory, Mali Region, and the countries of Austria and Hungary. Here are a few projects you and your corps/division could consider as you begin these new partnerships:
As we partner with these territories we have the opportunity to move beyond funding to developing relationships with the officers and soldiers in these locations. It will be exciting in the months to come to see how God works to form relationships between the USA Central Territory and these new Partner in Mission locations to further promote His Kingdom through World Services. The Missions Bureau is ready to assist you as you consider ways to partner with fellow Salvationists in your new PIM countries.

torial events: Youth Councils, CBLI, CMI, Commissioning, etc. Raise money and travel to a PIM for a short term missions trip. Sponsor a children's home or participate in a Love In Action project in a PIM country. Invite a young adult from a PIM country to serve on a summer camp staff, paying their travel expenses and hosting them for the Summer. Use Project 24/29 kits, available from
the Missions Bureau, for corps or commands to raise funds and increase awareness of your PIM.

Building a Future in Poland: World Services 2012 The World Missions Bureau, in collaboration with the Visual Communications Department, is pleased to introduce the 2012 World Services materials which highlight The Salvation Army’s work in the country of Poland. Later this month world services resource packets will be sent to each corps containing coin banks, posters, cartridge envelopes, and a four-part video series focusing on the history, current ministries, and plans for the future of the Army in Poland. There are many additional World Services materials to support your education and fundraising efforts which are available free of charge at resources.centralmissions.org. These materials include bulletin inserts, sample World Services projects, country-specific bookmarks, children’s worksheets, Into the World discussion/activity guides, fundraising ideas, and a monthly Go Without Challenge. As we become aware of and respond to the needs of those around the world through prayer and financial giving, we can be part of the Lord’s plan to bring hope and healing to the nations! To access these materials and more, visit resources.centralmissions.org.

Children from the Mexico City Children’s Home
MEXICO: With the number of children being cared for by the Mexico City Children’s Home growing, additional support is needed more than ever. The Mexico City Children’s Home relies on Sponsorship funds to meet the needs of these children, many being abandoned orphans. To become a sponsor of this home you can write to: The Salvation Army Sponsorship Program 10 W. Algonquin Rd. Des Plaines, IL 60016 Or Apply online at: www.sponsorship.centralmissions.org
PAKISTAN: With the 2008 re-development of the Salvation Army’s Medical Fellowship in Pakistan, new needs and areas of service were identified. It was discovered that there was a growing number of young mothers that were not adequately prepared for motherhood. Lack of resources and access to proper medical care plagues many communities in Pakistan. The Medical Fellowship began the Mothers and Children Health Club (MCHC) to support these mothers with the necessities for raising infants and young children. The Central Territory’s Love In Action project is one of the contributors that is supporting the MCHC. The MCHC is providing: prenatal, post natal care and testing, equipment such as: blood pressure cuffs, weigh scales for both mother and baby, fetal scope for checking heart beat of the baby before birth and thermometers. “We are truly serving suffering humanity but we are also seeing some additional interest in the corps program and this is leading to salvation and growth. We work without discrimination and have many Muslim attending our programs.” The MCHC is also developing women as community leaders. Bev Herivel: Committed to Missions One of the best ways for congregation members to understand about what is happening in the world of missionaries is to have a person in place that has a passion for missions. The Salvation Army Dearborn Heights is blessed to have such a person. Missionary Sergeant Bev Herivel has served many years, educating and motivating the Corps through her leadership on the Missionary Committee. This has included an extensive list of service from promotions at the corps to a missionary directory at the divisional level. Bev has also personally hosted many missionaries through the years in her home when they have been back in the states on furlough. To further encourage the missionaries themselves, she has sent tapes and later CDs to missionaries throughout the world, showing a model for other corps to follow. Recently Bev acted as a key person in the Partner In Mission Next Steps pilot, program, between the Salvation Army in Peru and Dearborn Heights. The program involved working to renovate the Callao Men’s Shelter and other projects, as well as education.
Bev has traveled to a number of countries through the years and has many stories to share. In 2009, when her son and daughter in law, Majors Rich and Brenda Herivel, were stationed in Russia, Bev paid a visit. The Training Principle in Moscow heard of Bev’s leadership in fundraising back at her home corps and asked her to lecture for 2 class sessions to the Cadets. Bev did so and loved it—a valuable time for the Cadets and for Bev as well, as she continued to lead and encourage, even while on vacation! Joanne Hanton of Dearborn Heights sums it up well: “Bev certainly has a passion for missions and her personal lifestyle reflects it as well. She lives and gives sacrificially and loves to share. (She) is a spiritual example of taking the Gospel to all the world literally…I am blessed to call her my friend.” I know that many people world wide would agree—thank you Bev, for your Christ like example of showing God’s love for the nations!
Around the World >>> On December 22, 2011, President Barack Obama declared that January would be National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention month. “ Our Nation was founded on the enduring principles of equality and freedom for all. As Americans, it is our solemn responsibility to honor and uphold this legacy. Yet, around the world and even within the United States, victims of modern slavery are deprived of the most basic right of freedom. During National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we rededicate ourselves to preventing and ending human trafficking, and we recognize all who continue to fight this serious human rights violation.” (www.whitehouse.gov)
