USED STEEL BIKES There was a big focus on Singlespeed and Fixed Gear Bikes at the Bike Shows in Friedrichshafen, Cologne, London and Vegas. USED was there and showing the new USED STEEL BIKE range. The sound of visitors smacking their lips and grabbing for the DigiCam was something we got USED to on the stand. The response was overwhelming.

The interest could be divided into two separate camps.

One group is interested in “retro” and bike culture and wants everything to be very authentic, while the second group is discovering Singlespeed as a way of moving through the city fast and comfortable and cares less for bike protocol. With our USED STEEL BIKES we have something for both parties, beautiful lugged frame bikes for the Track or the Tour, but also the perfect Urban bike that is practical, multifunctional and stylish. With both types of bikes we chose function over the coolness factor.

We got a lot of questions about the abundance of Fixed Gear and Singlespeed bikes. Our opinion can be summed up with something Richard Ayling said about our bike range: “The difference between our bikes and some of the others offering similar bikes, can be compared to music: There’s Punk rock and Jazz. It’s all music, but the beat, the passion and the groove can be different, not right or wrong, just different. We are not Punk rockers, we are not building bikes for heroes, we’re just playing jazz and if you catch our groove then feel free. There are a lot of grooves out there.”

The Singlespeed USED URBAN STEEL BIKES are a cooperation between Allegro Bikes from Melbourne, Australia and USED. Richard Ayling, Allegro founder, Track rider and cycling coach (for people like Cadel Evans, Stuart O‘Grady and Robbie McEwan in their junior days) has done a great job on the specifications of these bikes. He was able to melt beauty and function with zeitgeist and attitude. These are bikes for a better world.

The bikes have been made using the new Allegro Custom Tubing in plain-guage and triple-butted ChroMolySteel. This material gives the frames stability and the flex steel riders have learned to appreciate.

The USED URBAN STEEL BIKE Line is Urban Mobility pure, which is what USED has been preaching for a while now. We are getting our team together, good dedicated dealers, that understand our philosophy and culture, with whom we can grow and prosper. Watch out we’re coming!

ONYA - Road Speed Bike Onya is speed. The Urban life is fast, and moving in the city on this bike is faster. It ain’t no race bike, but it’s fast, stylish and strong. We use steel and only steel or ChroMoly to give it it’s proper name. It flexes better than Alloy, is stronger and has that timeless feel to it. It’s a cappuccino of a bike, a lot of froth on top, but a great taste and strong down to the last drop.

The bike is single speed, which means no gear cables just two brakes and that’s it. None of the crap most bikes carry these days. But move into option mode and you can make this beauty sing. Need a rack, a lock, a leather saddle, a drop handlebar?

We’ve been there and done that and we can do it again and now.

When you talk about the perfect bike, it’s easy to talk about high load capacity, fast and sporty, that mixture between fast and strong, like the racehorse that could also pull the beer wagon. You want it to do everything, but everything good.

Maybe the HHT can be that for you.

Let’s start with the material – it’s a steel bike made of ChroMoly tubing. TIG-welded and light.

The frame with horizontal dropouts has eyelets for front and rear racks and space for two water bottles.

The bike is spec’d as single speed, but for the weak among you we can put a 3-speed or 8-speed hub gear in. It even has a derailleur tab for your own brand of gears. You want brakes? We’ve got V-brakes or disc, choose your own poison. This bike will take you there and back and keep you safe and warm and raise your street credibility at the same time.

Track or Pista as they say in Italy and not just after a late night in the local pub, is a track bike with a flip-flop hub. This means it can be used as a fixed or as a singlespeed. This bike is “Track legal”, which means it has no braze-ons and can be ridden on the Velodrome. Richard Ayling has been riding and building these bikes for years and knew exactly what was needed. You can read a lot about fixed speed bikes these days, even the New York Times has had an article about the maverick riders of NYC. This attention has made riding fixed “hip”, but the ride to the beer garden or cruising by the local ice cream parlour is not enough for this beauty. Riding “fixed” is a way of life and not just “this weeks flavour”.

It’s important to say here, that fixed riding on the street, could be illegal in your country. Please check this before riding. The PISTA can be fitted with a front brake for street use and we suggest this for safety reasons.

It’s not about something new, it’s not about fashion or “this years model”, it’s about “tried and trusty, safe and serious”. This frame is not what people call “funky”, but it’ll take you to hell and back, while carrying everything you need to spend some time there. The frames are not made of Alloy or Carbon, but of Allegro ChroMoly steel, a material that will not let you down. The lugged frame is how they built frames back in the old days, back when men were men. This lugged ChroMoly frame has flex, but is still stiff enough to go everywhere you want to go.

For this bike say “comfortable” and “enduring” and it does that fully loaded. It’s got eyelets all over the place and comes with a complete Shimano 105 group. It’s a traditional Radonneur bike and you won’t see the “Superlite” sign above it in the store, but that’s not what we were trying to do.

The job at hand was to fit like a glove and that’s the way we build bikes. Richard Ayling has been twiddling with the geometry for years now and he’ll tell you, he’s almost there. But you know that designers never say “finished”!

Of course you would love to cycle, but someone told you modern bikes are built for the slim and weightless. Now is the time to move..

The bike for BiGBOYS. Take a little “Retro”, add a little “Modern Technology” and the BiGBOY is ready. Built to carry weight, but at the same time comfortable and stylish. What the Fatboy for Harley Davidson is, is the BiGBOY for Cactus10.

Steel lugged frame, hand soldered in Germany, Stainless parts, a Hub Dynamo and a Brooks leather saddle. Available in 3, 7 or 8 speed with Schwalbe ballon tires (The big ones!). This bike transforms a heavyweight into a mobile, easy moving heavyweight. We can’t work wonders and the Tour de France is still far away, but now even a BiGBOY can make it!

We call them Heavy Metal bikes!

Gears: All USED Steel Bikes are Singlespeed except for Tour (complete 105er Shimano Group) and BiGBOY. Urban Cowboy and HHT are easy to customise: Both frames will allow most hub gear systems (including a Rohloff) and the HHT will also take any derailleur system you care to throw at it.
