International Women's Day: Meet History's Heroines Saturday 5th March 10 am – 4 pm

Newark Royal Market, Newark Town Hall Market Place NG24 1DU An event by National Civil War Centre - Newark Museum. Meet amazing women from history as they take to the streets of Newark for International Women’s Day. From national names like Jane Austen and Nell Gwyn to famous females from Newark’s past including Lady Ossington and Palace Theatre-founder Emily Blagg, hear from some fascinating feminine icons as they stroll through the market place and take to the stage in front of the Buttermarket to tell their stories. Each costumed character will perform twice during the day and there’ll be chances to come face to face with them all as they roam. There’ll also be a British Sign Language interpreter to ensure that all can enjoy these illuminating performances.

Friday Lunchtime Concert: A Brief History of Music – Jack Lee and Phoebe Smith March 4th 1.30pm – 2.15pm

The Nave, Southwell Minster, Church Street Southwell NG25 0HD Jack Lee and Phoebe Smith are singers currently in their final year of Masters at the Royal Academy of Music. They have performed throughout the UK and Europe; acclaimed for their “stunning” operatic and recital performances. In this concert Phoebe and Jack present “A Brief History of Music. ” The recital will move chronologically through the different eras of music. Starting with music by Handel and Mozart then moving gradually through history to the present day.
