Located at jalan bukit bintang jalan alor is a unqiue food destination. Short walk from kuala lumpur away from the shopping mall to reach Alor. The perspective of Kuala Lumpur changes when you step onto the street; shop houses replaced high-rise buildings. Billboards were replaced with shop signs the surrounding and with Chinese letters. Walking on the street brings back the experience of 40 years ago. Shop houses façade were kept the same as its to make the street unique that makes Jalan Alor as one of the landmark of KL not only for the foods but the originality of the buildings were preserved. “Street that never dies” can be referred to Alor ,24 hours of different activities happens. During the day there’s not much activity as the sunsets the street was filled with bustling activities. Once was known as red light district before it has literally become food haven after the area-undergone numbers of facelift. The street was light up by lantern as sunsets, gradually the streets were filled with crowd of stalls and people as numbers of red lanterns and shop signs overwhelm the street. 2
A unique way of welcoming trademark of Alor was the smell of durians, and accompanied by the barbeque smell at the first end of the street. The street was filled with stalkers and outdoor restaurant making the street narrow for vehicle to drive through. Filled with rich traditional Malaysia food that varies from Chinese, Mamak and international. With the fierce competition around works are passionately offering their menus to every person who passes by their shop. Even tough food signs and menus are in Chinese character food representation in pictures and the communication way of the worker will create the pictures in our head and taste it as well before eating them.
3
And of course the taste of the traditional food will surprise us as the rich ingredient melts in our tongue. This makes Alor unique, there are similar foods that can be found in KL but only Alor can deliver the satisfaction individually. Food does not stands alone to cheer up the day accompanied with live musics of different culture brings up the mood.
