•New year, new division, same prediction. The Screaming
Eagles are picked to win the GLVC East Division by the GLVC head coaches. USI was picked to win the GLVC West Division each of the last three years, before being picked to win the East this spring.
•Archuleta at the helm for a fifth season. USI Head Coach Tracy Archuleta is at the helm of the Screaming Eagles for a fifth season. The NCAA Division II Coach of the Year has a record of 170-76 (.615), an average of 42.5 wins per year since coming to USI.
POSITION PLAYERS •USI returns three All-GLVC performers. The Eagles return
three All-GLVC players in senior catcher Dylan Mooney, senior outfielder Jusitn Blinn, and senior outfielder Michael Huling. Mooney was named to the first team, while Blinn and Huling were named to the second team.
•Eagles return top three hitters. USI returns its top three
hitters in senior outfielder Michael Huling, who had a team-best .387; senior catcher Dylan Mooney, who batted .369; and senior centerfielder Justin Blinn, who hit .369. The Eagles also get back their second-best hitter from 2009 in senior utility player Tyler Choate, who was injured last season.
•Vance and Mooney resume RBI race. Senior catcher Dylan

Americans (senior pitcher Trevor Leach and senior catcher Dylan Mooney) for the first time since 1994.
Mooney and senior infielder Brad Vance resume their RBI race this season. Vance set the USI single-season record with 70 RBIs, while Mooney was a close second with 68.
•Vance the Regional Most Outstanding Player. Senior
PITCHERS •Strenghth in the starting rotation. USI returns all four of its
starting rotation from a year ago, led by senior right-handers Trevor Leach and Taylor Dennis. Leach and Dennis had identical 12-1 records. They are followd by junior right-hander Josh Schultze, who was 9-2 last year, and senior right-hander Dan Marcacci, who was 6-3 last spring.
•Record breaking season. All-GLVC senior right-handers Trevor Leach and Taylor Dennis set and tied the school record for wins in a season with 12 each. Leach has set or tied the school record for wins each of the last two seasons and set the singleseason record with 112 innings pitched in 2010. •Leach looking for career mark with first start. Senior righthander Trevor Leach is one win away from tying the USI all-time record for wins. Leach has a three-year record of 24-2, one win shy of Todd Niemeier’s four-year mark of 25 victories.

•Eagles blasted home runs in 2010. USI blasted a teamrecord 49 home runs last year with senior catcher Dylan Mooney setting a school-record with 14 round trippers. •Record setting year. USI had a record setting year at the plate in 2010, establishing new marks in hits (715), doubles (136), home runs (49), and RBIs (472)
•Blinn led USI during the championship series. Senior outfielder Justin Blinn led USI during the NCAA II Championship Series with a .389 batting average in five games.
•Dennis on a 11-game winning streak. Senior right-hander Taylor Dennis is on an 11-game winning streak, including a pair of wins in the NCAA Division II Championship Series. He was named the Most Outstanding Player for his efforts during the championship series.

USI BASEBALL COACHING STAFF Tracy Archuleta Head Baseball Coach Tracy Archuleta became the first USI baseball coach to lead the Screaming Eagles to the NCAA Division II National Championship and is fast becoming the winningest coach in the history of the program. The 2010 ABCA NCAA II Coach of the Year has won 170 games in four seasons in leading the team into the national spotlight. The national champion Eagles broke 13 team records under Archuleta’s direction, including wins in a season (52), winning percentage (.788, 52-14), and winning streak (15). USI also won its third straight GLVC West Division title and its first GLVC Tournament crown since 1993. The 2010 Eagles also featured two All-Americans, three All-Region performers, and seven All-GLVC players. Six Eagles also earned Academic All-GLVC honors. In addtion to the national Coach of the Year award, Archuleta was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the ABCA and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The third season was nearly as exciting as his first with the Eagles coming two wins from advancing to second NCAA II Baseball Championship appearance. USI won the GLVC West for a second straight year before finishing third in the GLVC Tournament and the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. The Eagles were 39-19 overall; fourth best win total in the history of the program.
The Eagles and Archuleta finished their first season together ranked fourth nationally; had a 43-23 overall record; and 24-15 in the GLVC. USI placed second in the GLVC regular season and fourth in the conference tournament. For his efforts, Archuleta was named the ABCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2010. In Archuleta’s four seasons, USI has won the NCAA II national championship and a pair of NCAA II Midwest Regional titles; won three GLVC West crowns; one GLVC Tournament championship; and appeared three NCAA II Regionals. Archuleta’s Eagles also have featured five All-Americans, one Academic All-American, 13 All-Regional performers, and 20 All-GLVC players. USI also has sent four players into professional baseball during Archuleta’s three years at the helm. Darin Mastroianni, who was drafted by the Tornoto Bluejays, advanced to double-A this past year., while Jeremy Kehrt, who drafted by the Boston Red Sox, is in single-A. Archuleta came to USI after five seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside that featured a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and a pair of 40-win seasons. UWParkside also advanced to the NCAA II North Central Regional title game in 2005 and was 148-124 (.544) during Archuleta’s tenure.
In the second season, Archuleta and the Eagles won their first GLVC West Division and the first conference regular season title in 15 years. USI finished the year with 36 victories during the regular schedule, tying for fifth all-time in the history of the program.
After setting the foundation during his first two years, Archuleta directed the Rangers into the national spotlight with a 41-18 season in 2004, finishing on top of the GLVC standings and earning the school’s first-ever NCAA II Tournament bid. Between 2002 and 2004, UW-Parkside went from 13 wins to 41 wins.
The Eagles also were ranked as high as sixth nationally in 2008.
Archuleta’s Rangers continued their march in 2005, this time with a 45-18 record, picking up the school’s first GLVC baseball championship along the way. Again, the club made the NCAA II Tournament, reaching the regional championship game. The 2005 team broke the school record for wins in a season, set by the 2004 squad. In each of those two seasons, the Rangers finished among the top 25 teams in the nation. continued… In his tenure at UW-Parkside, Archuleta coached the Rangers first

All-American, Regional Player of the Year, GLVC Player of the Year, and he had two players sign professional contracts and 11 players earn All-Region honors. He was tabbed GLVC Coach of the Year in 2004. During his tenure at CMSU, the Mules won the regular season conference championship with a record of 20-1 and were ranked as high as fifth in the nation. The team picked up an NCAA tournament bid and finished 16th in the country with a 43-10 mark. Archuleta was CMSU’s outfield coach and recruiting coordinator. He also assisted the hitters.
State College (Nebraska) and Central Missouri State University at the NCAA II level before taking the top spot at UW-Parkside. At Wayne State, he was the infield coach, hitting coach, and recruiting coordinator on the team that captured its first NSIC championship and NCAA II regional birth in the 2001 season. Archuleta helped guide the team’s batting average to 25th in the country (2000) and, in 2001, the squad was third in the country in fielding percentage (.969). In 2001, Wayne State finished 26th in the country with a record of 35-10.
The native of Iliff, Colorado, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver and has a master’s degree in education from Wayne State College. He has three children, Mikaela, 16, Alex, 10, and Samuel, 7 Archuleta served as an assistant coach for five seasons at Wayne

Chris Marx is in his fourth season with Head Coach Tracy Archuleta and the USI baseball program. He is the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
Jeremy Kuester enters his second season as an assistant coach for USI and Head Coach Tracy Archuleta. He assists with pitching and hitting.
As the Eagles hitting instructor, USI has set a single-season record for home runs each of the last two season.
Kuester continues to make the transition from player to coach after two seasons at the University of Evansville and two years at Kentucky Wesleyan College. He started the transition by working baseball camps at Evansville, the University of Kentucky, and Austin Peay State University. The native of Rockport, Indiana, finished his collegiate career with the Aces and the Panthers with a 9-10 mark, while producing a 5.23 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 189.2 innings of work,. He also batted .255 with 51 RBIs and five home runs and was a member of the Aces NCAA Division I Super-Regional squad in 2006.
Prior to joining the USI staff, Marx began his coaching career as the head coach of the Indiana Yankees, a U17 select travel team and as an assistant coach for the Dubois County Bombers of the Central Illinois Collegiate League. The Bombers won the CICL league and tournament championships in 2007. The Evansville, Indiana, native and graduate of Mater Dei High School also has been an instructor at the University of Notre Dame Baseball Camp and at Tim Marx’s Baseball School. As a collegiate player, Marx played for Olney Central Community College and Ouachita Baptist University. He helped Ouachita Baptist to 50 wins and a number one national ranking in 2007. Marx graduated from USI in 2008 with a degree in health services
Kuester, who graduated from KWC in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in sports studies, comes to USI from a family rich in baseball tradition. His father, Brian Kuester ‘81, who has been the head baseball coach at South Spencer High School (Rockport, Indiana) for 15 years, played for the Eagles (1977-80) and helped coach the team under former USI Head Coach Larry Shown. Ivan Kuester, his grandfather, also was an assistant coach for USI under Shown.

About the University of Southern Indiana Location
The University of Southern Indiana was founded in Evansville in 1965. USI is a comfortable drive from the major metropolitan centers of Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nashville, and St. Louis. The Campus
The Health Professions Center, Science Center, Wright Administration Building, Education Center, and Orr Center are located on the north side of campus. Rice Library, University Center, Liberal Arts Center, Technology Center, and Business and Engineering Center form the quadrangle in the center of campus. The Physical Activities Center and the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center are located east of University Boulevard, a major thoroughfare through campus. Apartment buildings and residence halls are home to 2,800 students who live on campus. Academic Life
The University enrolls 10,702 students and offers undergraduate majors in 70 areas of study. An ever-increasing number of post-graduate programs also are available to students who wish to continue their education, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Outside the classroom, students have opportunities to participate in more than 90 organizations offering co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
