University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 2012 USI Soccer ●● The University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles finished strong in 2011 by going 4-2-1 in the last seven games. USI outscored the opponents in the last seven matches, 25-11. ●● The 2012 Eagles’ offense returns all of the goals from a team that outscored its 2011 opponents, 3533. ●● USI spent the 2011 season on the mend, losing six potential starters to year-ending injuries in the first few weeks of the regular season. All-six players should be available for the start of the 2012 season. ●● The Eagles return 22 of the 25 players on last year’s roster. The USI roster also features seven seniors, compared to just two last season.

Forward Rush Dugger led USI with nine goals, six coming in the seven matches.

●● Junior Rush Dugger is USI’s top returning scorer, posting 20 points on nine goals and seven assists in 2011. Senior Austin Andrekus was second among the returning players, scoring with 18 points on six goals and six assists, while senior Jeffrey McClure was third a year ago with 17 points on five goals and a team-high seven assists. ●● The Eagles did the job in the classroom in 2011-12, featuring six Academic All-GLVC performers. University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 2012 USI Coaching Staff Mat Santoro, who became the ninth head coach of the USI men’s soccer program in 2009, has the Screaming Eagles moving forward in 2012. The Screaming Eagles battled through numerous injuries to the starting line up and finished strong unders Santoro’s direction in 2011. USI went 4-2-1 in the final seven matches, after starting the year 1-9-1. Santoro led USI to a 9-8-0 mark in 2010, marking the first winning season for the Eagles since 2003. USI also made a competitive move in the GLVC, completing the conference schedule with a 6-8-0 record. The 2009 Eagles were 6-10-1 overall and 5-9-0 in the GLVC during Santoro’s first campaign at USI.

Head Coach Mat Santoro

Prior to his tenure at USI, Santoro was an assistant coach at the University of Memphis. He assisted with all facets of the program during his only season with the Tigers. Santoro started his collegiate head coaching career at Davis and Elkins College. Under his leadership, the Senators set school records for overall wins, conference wins, goals scored, and All-Conference selections during his four seasons. He also directed Davis and Elkins to its first two-winning seasons and produced the programs first All-American. He made the move to Davis and Elkins after spending four years as the men’s assistant coach at Rowan University in New Jersey. While at Rowan, Santoro was the program’s primary recruiter and was part of a staff that led the Profs to the Division III Final Four in 2000. Santoro played collegiately for one season at the University of Maryland before transferring to Rowan. As a player at Rowan, he was named All-Conference three times, All-Region twice, and was a member of the 1990 Division III National Championship team. Santoro played professionally in the United States for four years before entering the coaching ranks. A native of New Jersey, Santoro resides in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, with his wife, Andrea, and their four children, Timothy, Maria, Andrew, and Giuliana. University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 2012 USI Coaching Staff Carl Carr ‘09 is in his fifth season as an assistant coach at USI and has been a fixture with the

Screaming Eagles’ soccer program since 2006. He made the transition from player to assistant coach in 2008 and now works in all areas of recruiting, academic advising, and on-field training. In addition to his duties with USI, Carr has been a coach in the Evansville Soccer Club and directed and worked many area soccer camps. Carr began his association with the Screaming Eagles in 2006 after transferring from Martin Methodist College. He led the Screaming Eagles during his two seasons, becoming the team captain in 2007. Prior to coming to the United States, Carr experienced success as a youth player in England, working his way through the ranks of the Carlisle United Academy. The native of Carlisle, England, eventually became a first-team regular with Carlisle City before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to start his collegiate career.

Carr earned a bachelor’s degree from USI in kinesiology with a minor in nutrition. He also holds a coaching license from the English F.A. and is a member of both the English F.A. and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
