2012 USI Preseason Notes ●●The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team earned a third-straight berth in the GLVC Tournament in 2011. ●●USI lost to third-seeded University of WisconsinParkside, 2-0, in the first round of the GLVC Tournament in Sommers, Wisconsin. ●●The Screaming Eagles have posted three-straight winning records for the first time since USI had fourstraight positive finishes between 1997 and 2000. ●●USI was 9-8-2 overall and 9-5-1 in the GLVC during 2011. ●●USI’s only appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament came in 1997 when the Eagles advanced to the national quarterfinals. ●●USI lost four starters from last year’s team, but returns three of the top four goal scorers. The returning players were responsible for 66.7 percent of the goals scored by the Eagles last season. ●●The Eagles have 12 new players on the squad in 2012, seven on the defensive side of the field.

Senior Susan Ellsperman became the first Academic All-American for USI women’s soccer after leading the team in scoring in 2011.

●●USI senior Susan Ellsperman was honored in the 2011 post-season by being named NSCAA second-team All-Region and second-team All-GLVC, Capital One first-team Academic All-District V, and Capital One first-team All-American. Ellsperman finished 2011 with 14 points on five goals and four assists. ●●Susan Ellsperman, who ranks fourth in assists and seventh in total points all-time at USI, is the first USI women’s soccer player to be named Academic All-America.

2012 USI Preseason Notes ●●Sophomore Makenzie Brinker was second on the squad in points and goals in 2011. Brinker had 12 points on five goals and two assists during her first full season with the Eagles. ●●All four of junior Julia Kohnen’s goals in 2011 were game-winners. The four game-winning goals were a team-best. ●●Eagles have to fill the hole in goal due to the graduation of Stephanie Bodamer. She played in 1736 of the 1781 total minutes last year. ●●USI did well in extra-time during 2011, posting a 3-0-2 mark.

2012 USI Coaching Staff Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht Krissy Engelbrecht is entering her 10th season as the head coach of the USI women’s soccer program. In her first nine seasons, she has accumulated a record of 67-85-11 overall. The Eagles completed their third-straight winning season under Engelbrecht in 2011. USI also qualified for its third straight GLVC Tournament after placing sixth in the league with a 9-5-1 mark. Engelbrecht, the 2010 GLVC Coach of the Year, had the Eagles rolling in 2010 as the squad tied for third in the GLVC with a 10-3-1 mark and hosted a conference tournament game for the first time since 2000. USI also had a 12-6-1 overall record and was ranked in the NSCAA Midwest Rankings. Under Engelbrecht’s direction, the Eagles advanced to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2005, placing seventh. USI also had a GLVC regular season record of 7-5-2. Engelbrecht also led the 2005 Eagles to their first GLVC Tournament appearance since 2000. Engelbrecht came to USI from the University of Evansville where she was an assistant coach. Under former Evansville head coach Mick Lyon, Engelbrecht helped direct the Aces to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in 2001. In the community, she is the director of player coaching for the Evansville Soccer Club soccer organization. Engelbrecht was an outstanding player for Evansville prior to becoming a coach. She was a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and AllGreat Lakes Region team member, leading the Aces to four straight MVC titles and two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances. She was named to the MVC Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Evansville Hall of Fame in 2007. Engelbrecht lives in Evansville with husband, Jeff, a former USI baseball player, and their son Aidan.

2012 USI Coaching Staff Assistant Coach Brooklyn Barrett Brooklyn Barrett begins her second tenure as a women’s soccer assistant coach at USI after one year as an assistant in 2006. She will assist Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht in all facets of the team, focusing on coaching the offense. Barrett has developed an extensive coaching resume over the last eight years at the collegiate, club, and high school levels. She was the North High School (Evansville, Indiana) junior varsity head coach and assist varsity coach the last four years (2007-10). At the club level, Barrett served as a head coach in the Evansville Soccer Club (2010-present) and Evansville Elite Soccer Club (2003-09). As a player, Barrett was a two-year team captain for USI and finished her career with 35 points on 13 goals and nine assists. She also started 71 matches for the Eagles and had two game-winning goals.

Assistant Coach Stephanie Bodamer Stephanie Bodamer makes the transition from player to coach in 2012, joining Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht’s staff as the goalkeeper coach. Bodamer ended her four-year career at USI as the Eagles’ all-time leader in saves (407); ranked second in career shutouts (21); and third in goals against average (1.35). She made a USI single-season record 123 saves as a senior. The four-year starter’s best season came during her junior season when she had a 0.90 GAA, a 12-6-0 record, and a seven shutouts. Bodamer, a native of Highland, Indiana, is completing her degree at USI in biology.
