The annual Cultural Diversity Welcome Reception helps participants build bridges and friendships within the USI community while emphasizing academic excellence. It is a fun and exciting way to begin college in an informal setting with faculty, staff, returning students, alumni, trustees and employees, including the president and provost of the University. Welcome Week officially kicks off with the Unpack and Unwind New Student Dinner. The USI Alumni Association and Parents and Families Association invite you and your family to join us for a picnic dinner at the University Center. Take a break from unpacking! Are you living off-campus? There’s no reason to miss out on the Welcome Week fun! Check in prior to 7:30 p.m. outside UC 2220 to pick up your Welcome Week schedule and your free USI student planner. Stay for the meeting to discuss topics unique to commuter students and learn all about getting to class on time, where to park, what to do between classes and much more. Get useful tips on how to be a successful commuter student by getting involved and staying connected at USI. Students living on campus in residence halls will meet outside their residence hall for their area’s community meeting. Here you will meet the Residence Life staff and other students in your residence hall, and learn about all the programs and services Residence Life provides. Note: Apartment residents will meet on Sunday, August 21.

As part of your UNIV 101 course content, all freshmen are required to participate in Eagle Experience: UNIV 101. The program will cover issues facing college students through large group presentations and small group discussions. You will have the opportunity to connect with other new students along with Welcome Week Leaders, AMIGOS and Resident Assistants. You are assigned a session based on your UNIV 101 section number on your fall schedule.

Clarke Lane Field Ultimate Frisbee is an exciting, non-contact team sport that combines the best features of soccer, American football and Frisbee throwing. Disc Golf Course USI is one of the few universities across the country that has an 18hole Disc Golf course. Disc Golf is a cross between throwing a Frisbee and playing golf. The Screaming Eagles Valley Complex is located near O’Bannon Hall behind Parking Lot E, so come out and play a round of Disc Golf! Community Center The Block Party has been a Welcome Week tradition for years at USI. It is a way for students to say goodbye to summer and get ready for the first day of classes. Carter Hall [UC West] Comedy hypnotist Daniel James will present an interactive experience unlike any other. Daniel James has appeared on America’s Got Talent, The Ellen Show and The Tonight Show.
