Whether you are a seasoned interscholastic player who has been in the program since 5th grade, or a young NYTS player looking to try your hand at arena polo, this resource is for you. Please allow these following pages to give you a brief introduction to our 30-plus established USPA Intercollegiate Polo Programs. Whether you are looking for a big school or small, archeology or zoology, we offer a wide range of institutions across the United States and Canada to fit your needs.

The USPA Intercollegiate Polo Program is steeped in history with the very first national championship having been held in 1922. Yale and Princeton were the sole competitors, Princeton coming out the victor. Today we have both men’s and women’s teams competing in separate divisions across four regions advancing their way through regular season and tournament play, all vying for a chance at the national championship.

The intercollegiate program continues to see growth year after year and receives tremendous support from the board of governors of the USPA to afford us the opportunity to support existing programs and launch new initiatives such as the USPA Intercollegiate Scholarship Program. The Babson men’s team was the 2022 USPA Division II National Intercollegiate Champions.

Over the years, members of Babson Polo have represented nine different countries, and Babson College students as a whole represent more than 80 countries.

Babson has been ranked the No. 1 school for entrepreneurship for more than 20 years.

HORSES

DID YOU KNOW?

Brown has an open curriculum, meaning that students may choose whichever classes they wish to take without being restricted by any core requirements.

Brown gives you the option to take any class “Satisfactory/ No Credit” instead of the traditional letter grading system, making it unique to its Ivy League counterparts.

Every year, the Brown Concert Agency holds a concert known as ‘Spring Weekend’ on the main green. Past headliners have included Fetty Wap, Tinashe, Diplo and Childish Gambino.

Cornell is the only public Ivy League school. Slope Day celebrates the final day of spring classes with live music. Performers include: Lu dacris, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Pussycat Dolls, Ben Folds, Kanye West, O.A.R., Snoop Dogg and The Game. Cornell has over 900 student organizations.

The Harvard Library is the largest academic library in the world. Harvard was established before calculus had even been invented.

In 2013, Harvard’s financial aid increased to a record total of $182 million.

Skidmore has an 8:1 student-professor ratio.

Nearly 70% of students participate in internships during their Skidmore careers, a number of which are funded by the college.

The average class size is 16, and 94% of all classes have under 30 students.

UCONN is a top 25 public university.

UCONN Polo has won 11 national championships since its founding in 1969, including the 2022 USPA Division II Women’s National Intercollegiate Championship.

UCONN was originally founded as an agricultural school in 1881.

Yale is the third oldest university but home to the oldest collegiate daily newspaper. Yale is home to an exclusive secret society called Skull and Bones. Members have included former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and John Kerry.

Yale freshmen are treated to a formal holiday banquet each year just like a Harry Potter-style Hogwarts’ feast.

MSU has over 200 academic programs with several highly ranked degree granting colleges, including the Colleges of Education, Business and Nursing, and James Madison College (a polisci and pre-law college).

MSU was ranked No. 1 in college sports overall in 2015 and is consistently ranked in basketball, football, baseball and hockey.

MSU has over 700 student organizations from Underwater Hockey to the Quidditch Club to the Multicultural Business program and many honors organizations.

Lexington is the Horse Capital of the World and is home to the Kentucky Horse Park and Keeneland race track. The men’s basketball team is the winningest program in the country. Students can get involved in over 350 organizations, including Greek Life.

Virginia

The Virginia Polo Center is a 75-acre facility consisting of a 400-by-150 lighted outdoor arena, a 250-by100 indoor arena and a regulation Bermuda grass field.

There is a 1500-square-foot clubhouse named the Beh House (pronounced “Bay” House).

UVa has won 12 Men’s National Intercollegiate Championships and 11 Women’s National Intercollegiate Championships.

The UW Polo Club is housed at a private facility with a spacious indoor arena and miles of fields for trail riding.

As a growing program, all our members receive focused attention and plenty of playing time as well as hands-on experience with the horses and the ins and outs of polo.

The UW offers endless local charm, whether walking down State Street, enjoying a warm spring day at the Memorial Terrace or renting boats for an afternoon on the water.

Virginia Tech’s motto is Ut Prosim which means “That I May Serve.”

The iconic stone used to build VT’s buildings is quarried just down the road from campus and is lovingly called Hokie Stone.

At home football and basketball games, the Hokies often register on the Richter scale as they jump to “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. This has given Blacksburg the nickname “The Epicenter.”

We are a club that not only values teamwork and communication, but makes sure that all of our members have a memorable time.

The University of Texas polo team practices nearby, so it is easy to set up matches or just scrimmage!

We have a tradition of team dinners at Chickfil-A after our Friday practices which is everyone’s favorite part of the week.

It is a campus tradition to put a penny on the foot of the Sul Ross statue for good luck on an exam.

The Big Event, appropriately named, is the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation with over 20,000 students pitching in to participate in community service.

Texas A&M holds Midnight Yell practice the night before every football game.

We play both indoor and outdoor polo up to three times a week!

In the fall of 2017, TCU completed construction on a brand new Greek village with 13 sorority houses and 11 fraternity houses.

TCU is located on 272 acres and has a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, giving TCU a big school feel with a small, private school experience.

Trinity

Trinity has been named “Best in the West” by the 2022 U.S. News and World Report for its commitment to undergraduate teaching and research.

The Riverwalk - one of the most visited places in Texas and a gem of San Antonio –is a quick five-minute drive from the Trinity campus.

The area around San Antonio has a rich history of polo, including the Retama Polo Center, once the largest polo facility in the world that hosted many U.S. Opens and one Cup of the Americas.

UNT is the sixth largest University in Texas and is consistently named one of America’s 100 Best Value Colleges and Universities.

Founded in 1890, UNT is located in the town of Denton, which has become the college town of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

The sports’ teams’ nickname, “Mean” Joe Greene who went on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and became a Hall of Famer..

We are five minutes from the ocean and surfing; two hours from skiing; and three hours from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

We regularly practice and play on the grass fields in Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara.

Our alumni are veterinarians, doctors, attorneys, entrepreneurs and executives all over the country. Cal Poly graduates include top engineers who have gone on to work for Apple and Tesla.

Montana

Montana State University was originally named Agricultural College of the State of Montana and was founded in 1893 as a land-grant college.

There are more than 100 miles of trails in and around campus that are easily accessible.

The university is home to the only polo club in Montana.

Incoming students at OSU have the highest average GPA of any Oregon school.

The Stanford Polo

was formed in 1919 as a means for the current ROTC members to improve their riding. Most members join the Stanford Polo Club without any previous riding experience.

The Stanford Polo Club is one of the few fully student-run polo clubs in the country.

In 2022, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine was rated the top veterinary school in the nation by U.S. News.

In 2022, UC Davis was ranked in the top 10 public universities nationally by U.S. News.

UCSB has 10 Nobel laureates and is one of the top research universities in the world. Our campus has a private beach with surfboards, paddle boards and kayaks available.

UCSB offers more than 90 undergraduate majors, as well as over 500 different student organizations and clubs.

Students are from 50 states and 79 countries.

Undergraduates can choose from majors within eight colleges, and grad students can earn degrees in more than 80 master’s programs.

Sports teams are called the Vandals, thanks to an old newspaper account of the 1917 basketball team vandalizing the opponents on the court.
