Hello San Diego Division Tennis Professionals: Spring has finally arrived in San Diego. We should all be very well rested after one of the wettest Winters on record in Southern California! Summer camps, clinics, and lesson programs are now in the planning. Wishing each of you a fun and successful Spring and Summer season ahead. I hope many of you had the opportunity to participate in our division activities so far this year. Starting with our annual divisional convention in March, a FREE ticket to Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open Pro Tournament, U30 and Activities Committee sponsored Camp Forum seminar, and Fitness Workshop coming up in May, Tennis Fest in June, and Tennis Thanks the Troops opportunities to serve. The USPTA National Executive Committee held its April semi-annual meeting at National headquarters in Lake Nona, Florida. Our San Diego Division representatives attending this meeting were Conan Lorenzo and our Executive Director Don Gomsi. Roll-out of the updated national website, coordination with USTA on new testing standards, mentorship programs, and planning for the World Conference on Tennis to be held in Las Vegas this September were just a few of the topics of note. We have an active division with many opportunities to improve teaching knowledge and skills, and network with your fellow teaching professionals. Hope to see you all on the courts soon!
Dophie Poiset Conan Lorenzo wins the 2019 Janet Louer USTA JTT Organizer of the Year Award Conan has been involved with Junior Team Tennis since 2011. He has exponentially grown the number of league players through various initiatives including the creation of a website. Additionally, Lorenzo works with local schools to develop leagues and participates in a tennis ball donation committee, donating thousands of tennis balls to after-school tennis programs, hospitals, school classrooms and animal shelters. Congratulations Conan!
U30 Report
San Diego Division Committees
by Amanda Fink This has been an exciting quarter of tennis and happenings for U30. This year’s USPTA division convention awards highlighted the accomplishments of U30 members/advisory members Stephen Thom, Nathan Welden and Michelle Okhremchuk. April Bisharat was also recognized for her business Love15 Tennis in the Business Lifestyle and Psychology quarterly publication and Matt Previdi just released a book/program that he created with his father called the 90 Day Doubles Diet. I encourage members to share their accomplishments with the USPTA community! U30 organized and presented its first “Forum” where coaches come together to exchange ideas/thoughts. The first Forum was themed on tennis summer camps and led by Matt Previdi, Stephen Thom and Nathan Welden. We hope it will be the first in a series of Forums to come. U30 is also working on planning a junior pro-am open to all USPTA pros sometime in August. Stay tuned to your emails for date and details. I also want to take this time to remind our members that U30 isn’t all about people who are literally under the age of 30. The initiative is to encourage all up and coming pros to be more active in the USPTA community. Whether you are learning to take more of a leadership role at your club or program, are interested in serving the community more, want to contribute new ideas or if you are interested in what the USPTA does and just don’t know how to get connected….this group wants to include you and hear what you think! Never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have! I encourage all directors and leaders to tell newer/rising pros about this group. The networking, community and contributions have already been incredible, and I cannot wait to see the things this group will contribute in the future!

Tennis Fest will be Sunday, June 9 at Balboa Tennis Club. This is a huge event with over 700 people from the public playing tennis on 25 courts. We try to get as many USPTA pros to help out with this event as possible. Long-sleve shirts are provided to each pro participating. This is a great opportunity to give back to tennis and volunteer for the few hours. Check-in is at 11:30 am and lasts until about 3:00 pm, but you would only be on court for two hours. To register for it, click on the link in the eblast, or send Amanda Fink an email at: afink15@gmail.com.
