The emirate of Dubai is synonymous with humongous. It continues to build the first, largest and biggest structures in the world. Dubai’s dynamics are always transient and ever-changing with its constant urge to construct something better and bigger than the previous. There was a Palm Island and Nakheel thought of the World Island. Burj Al Arab seemed too timid The when Burj Khalifa cropped up, distancing itself to being a loner in the crowd. Dubai Shuttle constantly dwells in a suppressive competition with itself trying to magnetize tourists to a dreamy world of attractions and unheard of luxuries. The emirate’s scoring points lie in its entrepreneurial abilities to create the inconceivable found in its tourist attractions, landmarks, shopping centres, nightlife and hotels. Although it strictly safeguards its traditional practices, it allows space for other religions to breathe, a rare quality amongst the conservative Arab world. Thankfully, it has been successful in shielding itself from extremism, much-needed for it to survive. Dubai also offers an exciting abundance of attractions, activities, shopping and nightlife. Getting Around Public transportation in Dubai is the cheapest and the most popular mode of transportation. Public transportation]m in Dubai is controlled by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) which includes public buses, inter-emirate buses, metro rail and taxi services.
Taxis
Taxis are the most frequently used mode of transportation, operated by the Dubai Taxi Corporation. Although there are public cab services available, DTC taxis are easily identified by their cream colour. Pink taxis are for women only. Women may ride in tan taxis, but only when traveling with men. Avoid the front seat and do not converse with the driver. Taxis are easily available and cheap, as the fares are metered according to distance traveled. Presently the minimum taxi fare in Dubai is 10 AED and less if booked in advance. Be sure to tell the driver where you want to go before entering the taxi.
Metro
RTA operates and maintains an advanced, state-of-the-art Dubai Metro rail system, a much sought after transportation option. It is a driverless, fully-automated metro system built mainly underground to solve the traffic congestion in the city. Currently, the Red Line is fully operational covering stations from Al Rashidiya to Jebel Ali, traveling along the Sheikh Zayed road where most of the corporate offices and hotels are located. The RTA has introduced separate NOL cards for frequent travelers, first class travelers and tourists to pay for the tickets. These cards can be used for other modes of transportation and parking as well.

Places to Visit Mall Info
Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world. It is located
approx 45 minutes from the port and hosts 1200 retailers, 150 food outlets, an ice skating rink, aquarium, dancing fountain, 22’ screen movie theater and the Sega Republic gaming and fun center.
Mall of the Emirates (MOE) is located approximately 30
minutes from the port. It is the most popular mall among Sailors/ Marines. The MOE hosts 466 retailers, 70 food outlets and a 14’ screen movie theater. The MOE also has a family fun center which includes a bowling center and state-of-the-art video games.
Mirdif City Centre is a 2.1 million square foot mall,
opened in 2010, featuring more than 350 retail stores and restaurants. The mall also provides a range of dedicated services such as community areas, medical clinics, spa services, personal grooming facilities and a fitness centre that incorporate a perfect balance of public spaces and commercial areas. The mall creates an intimate, warm and welcoming environment. Water features and palms give the impression of an indoor ‘oasis’ that is complemented with plentiful natural light and sophisticated interiors. The mall’s simple but clear layout also provides a logical and understandable Day 1 flow for visitors that makes navigating Mirdif City - Mall of the Emirates (1100-2200) - Dubai Intl Seafarers Centre (1100-2200) Centre easy and convenient.
Mall of the Day Schedule:
The Seafarer’s Centre features a wide range of bars and restaurants with prices among the best in the city. The Centre is also home to an Internet cafe, a pool hall and volleyball courts. Those hoping for a spirited game of darts can also find what they’re looking for at this location. The number of bars and restaurants allows those looking to watch a sporting event or those looking for a quiet relaxing meal to all find what they’re in the mood for.

Things to DO Dining in Dubai
For those who enjoy good food and a great dining experience, Dubai is a city that offers rare opportunities to experience local and ethnic cuisine from almost every region in the world. Standards of international cuisine in Dubai are high and the choice is diverse. Top class restaurants in the city’s hotels offer Arabian, French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Mexican, Russian, British, German, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Flilpino and Korean cuisine, among others. Hotels offer a remarkably diverse range of food and beverage outlets, partly because they serve not only their own guests, but also attract large numbers of local residents. Their restaurants cover everything from coffee shops to fine dining and specialty outlets. The standard of service is on par with the best in the world. The night-life is equally varied, with many bars, pubs, discos and nightclubs open until the early hours. Outside the hotels, small eating places are to be found in all parts of the city including Deira, Bur Dubai, Satwa, Jumeirah and Dubai Marina. While restaurants located outside hotel and club premises are not permitted to serve alcohol, all are air-conditioned, clean and are often culinary adventures in their own right. International theme restaurants such as TGI Friday’s, Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Café and Henry J Bean’s and Fashion Café are also popular. There are several other American and Mexican restaurants in the city, while international fast food chains are represented by such names as McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Round Table Pizza, Pizza Corner, Harry Ramsden’s, Burger King, Shakey’s, Wimpy, Dunkin’ Donuts and Hardee’s. Local Emirati food blends ingredients imported from around Asia and the Middle East. Characteristic spices include cinnamon, saffron and turmeric, along with almonds, pistachios, limes and dried fruit. Dried limes are common in Emirati cuisine and reflect a Persian influence, giving dishes a distinctive tangy flavour. There are a number of restaurants offering local dishes. You can also visit one of the many ‘kitchens’ that specialize in local Emirati food.

MA2 Wallan Santos from Bridgeport, Conn., joined the Navy three years and three months ago because he wanted to build a better foundation for his family and himself. Santos enjoys working out, reading and outdoor activites. In the future, he plans to earn a bachelor’s degree and open his own gym.

AMAN Carl Cobb from Philadelphia, joined the Navy three years ago to travel and see America from a different perspective. Cobb enjoys playing basketball, driving his car and playing with his daughter. His future plans include making rank and applying what he gained from his Navy experiences to the rest of his life.

EM2 Chelsea Waters from Liberty, Texas, joined the Navy four and a half years ago to see the world and get on-the-job training. Waters enjoys watching movies, reading and going to the gym. In the future, she hopes to finish her college degree and get a civilian job in the nuclear field.
ATAN Fredrick Cawthon from Phoenix, joined the Navy three years and eight months ago to travel and gain career opportunities. In his spare time, Castro enjoys going to the gym and working on qualifications. He plans to advance to E-4 and get his professional pilot’s license in the future.
