USS ENTERPRISE, At sea- As the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) commences the home stretch of its 21st deployment, its crew members have been working around the clock to ensure a warm welcome for friends and family members participating in the ship’s Tiger Cruise June 13. Nearly 1,500 ‘tigers’ will board Big ‘E’ when it pulls into Mayport, Fla. and will experience life as honorary Enterprise crew members as the carrier makes its way back to its homeport of Norfolk, Va. after completing a combat deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibilities. Tiger Cruise participants will have the opportunity to learn firsthand what it’s like to live and work aboard the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. In addition to job-shadowing their sponsor Sailor or Marine, tigers can also participate in multiple ship-wide tours and experience various Morale, Welfare and Recreationsponsored events like the movie and game nights Big ‘E’ crew members have been able to enjoy throughout their deployment. Tigers will also be able to observe flight deck operations and a special air power demonstration, try on shipboard firefighting equipment and have the opportunity to complete their own personnel qualification standard books as they tour and learn about Enterprise in order to become certified ‘Tiger Surface and Aviation Warfare Specialists’ during their stay. “This is going to be an

awesome experience,” said Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Equipment) Airman Caleb D. Bergstrom, whose father will be visiting Enterprise as a tiger. “My dad will be able to spend a day in my shoes and see what I do for a living everyday. It will be really cool to have him on board with me.” Planning for Enterprise’s 2011 Tiger Cruise began about halfway through the carrier’s deployment, and has been an all-hands effort to ensure Enterprise can comfortably accommodate its newest crew members. More recently, Enterprise Sailors have been busy making preparations, conducting medical screenings, washing hundreds of pounds of linen and preparing thousands of meals for the incoming tigers. Sailors have also worked around the clock to re-paint much of the ship and clean to make sure Big ‘E’ is spotless upon its arrival in Mayport. “Nearly every department on this ship has played a vital role in assisting with projects to make sure we give our tigers a fitting welcome and ensure they have a pleasant and memorable stay aboard Enterprise throughout the next few days,” said Lt. Cmdr. Rich Donaldson, Enterprise’s Tiger Cruise coordinator. “Everyone involved has done a superb job to ready this ship for such a large number of guests and I am very excited to commence with Operation Tiger Cruise.” Tiger cruises are a tradition in the Navy that allow the general public the opportunity to experience what Sailors and Marines do each day. Enterprise’s Tiger Cruise culminated with tigers manning the rails and experiencing homecoming as
