Enterprise Friends and Family Begin Tiger Cruise By MC2 Nathan R. Carpenter USS Enterprise Public Affairs

USS ENTERPRISE, At sea – Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) welcomed nearly 1,500 ‘Tigers,’ friends and family of Enterprise and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 Sailors, aboard the ship July 13, marking the beginning of ‘Tiger Cruise’ as the ship transits to its homeport of Norfolk, Va. After the ship pulled into Mayport, Fla., to off load departing CVW-1 and Enterprise crew members, Sailors’ families and friends embarked Enterprise to experience two days of life on board Big ‘E.’ “ It’s so exciting to be on the ship,” said Eneida Cordero, mother of Personnel Specialist 2nd Class Cynthia Cordero, who traveled from Aguada, Puerto Rico to see her daughter. “I knew it was big, but it’s bigger than I even imagined.” Departing Sailors were followed by reunions between Sailors and the Tigers they hadn’t seen since the beginning of Enterprise’s six-month deployment. “It brought a tear to my eye to see my grandson on the flight

Sailors and their “Tigers” watch together from the catwalks of USS Enterprise (CVN 65) as the aircraft carrier departs Mayport, Fla. on its journey toward its homeport of Norfolk, Va. Nearly 1,500 Tigers boarded Enterprise to accompany Big ‘E’ Sailors on the two-day final leg of their six-month deployment.

deck,” said Dave Francis, grandfather of Machinist’s Mate Fireman Apprentice Corey Adkins, who manned the rails of Enterprise as she pulled into Mayport. Francis has eagerly anticipated his chance to be a Tiger, following the journeys of Enterprise closely on its web site and Facebook page. “I’m surprised how often I look at the photos of Big “E,” said Francis. “ I’m just glad you guys are home, safe and sound.” After Enterprise’s commanding officer, Capt. Dee L.

Mewbourne, welcomed the Tigers on board, he turned the 1MC over to a special visitor, Adm. John C. Harvey, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command. “Tigers, it’s great to have you be able to join your Sailors for the final operation of this incredibly successful deployment,” said Harvey. “Over the next few days, you’ll see some absolutely amazing things that this crew does every day and get a good idea of what it takes to accomplish an aircraft carrier’s mission at sea. Just remember,

it takes the efforts of literally thousands of Sailors that you don’t see to make flight operations happen,” said Harvey. “I would ask that you get around see the efforts of all the team to make this amazing ship come to life.” Sharing in the duties and experiences of a Sailor is what being a tiger is all about. Doing it safely and with enthusiasm is all it takes to make this tiger cruise the voyage of a lifetime. Adm. Harvey added, “Tigers, drink this all in. Stay safe and have fun. See you in Norfolk!”
