Transition From AFOPO To AFSBSC  The Air Force Outreach Program Office performed its roles in Small Business Education, Outreach to the Defense industry and Small Business and Technical Assistance , Media Marketing and Communication duties for SAF/SB from 1998 through 2008 from Brooks City-Base.  On 1 Oct 2008, the organization was renamed to the Air Force Small Business Solutions Center. Our new taskings included Market Research and Assessment, Data Analysis and Risk Assessment in support of Air Force Strategic Sourcing initiatives. Integrity - Service - Excellence


Strategic Sourcing: A Definition “Strategic Sourcing is the collaborative and structured process of critically analyzing an organization’s spending and using to make business decisions about acquiring commodities and services more effectively and efficiently.”  An overall strategy to obtain better value by obtaining  Cheaper pricing  More favorable terms and conditions and /or increased realization of socio-economic goals while maintaining or improving levels of quality, service and technology

Company Risk Analysis  SBSC uses company profile information available online through Dun and Bradstreet to assess company business strength  Past performance is reviewed through the Contractor Performance Assessment Review System (CPARS) and using telephone or email inquiries to contracting and program management personnel on past contracts.

How Small Businesses Can Help Themselves  Make sure all entries in CCR and other government databases are up to date.  Use the SBA, Small Business Specialists and Procurement Technical Assistance Centers to maximum advantage  Be aware of all government training and assistance programs (SBIR, Mentor Protégé, etc)  Be alert to teaming opportunities!
