AT FIRST GLANCE

TEAM 117/BUTCH JONES ERA BEGINS

¢ The Tennessee Vols begin their 117th season with an Aug. 31 game against Austin Peay, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. at Neyland Stadium. ¢ Saturday’s game vs. Austin Peay represents the first game at Tennessee for head coach Butch Jones, hired on Dec. 7, 2012 as the 24th coach in UT history. ¢ Jones coached against Austin Peay while at Cincinnati in 2011, a 72-10 Bearcats’ win. ¢ In six seasons as a head coach at Cincinnati (2010-12) and Central Michigan (2007-09), Jones owns a 50-27 career record (.649) with four conference championships, including Big East titles in each of the last two seasons. ¢ Vols head coaches are 19-4 in their UT debuts, including first-game wins by seven of the last eight. ¢ Jones is 3-3 in season openers as a head coach.

THE 800 CLUB

¢ A win over Austin Peay would make the University of Tennessee the 8th program in college football history to reach the 800-win plateau (please see page 6 for more information on this milestone). ¢ Tennessee would also be the second SEC school to reach 800 all-time wins (Alabama, 827). ¢ The Vols are 799-354-53 all-time (.684).

SEASON/HOME OPENERS

¢ Aug. 31 represents the second consecutive August opener for the Vols and only the sixth game in the month for UT since 1996. ¢ UT has won five consecutive August games. • NC State (35-21 on 8/31/12) • Fresno State (24-6 on 8/30/03) • Wyoming (47-7 on 8/31/02) • Texas Tech (52-17 on 8/30/97) • UNLV (62-3 on 8/31/96) ¢ The Vols are 6-0-1 all-time in August and 3-0 all-time on Aug. 31. ¢ UT is 86-24-6 (.767) in season openers dating back to 1891, including four consecutive wins. ¢ In the last 29 seasons, Tennessee is 24-3-2 (.862) in season openers. Tennessee is 92-18-5 (.822) in home openers, including 18 consecutive wins since 1995.

THE AUSTIN PEAY GAME

¢ Saturday’s game is the first-ever meeting between Tennessee and Austin Peay. ¢ Austin Peay marks the third FCS school to serve as the Vols’ season-opening opponent in the last four years (UT Martin 2010, Montana 2011) and the fourth consecutive FCS school to serve as the Vols’ home opener (also Georgia State 2010).
