THE ALABAMA GAME  Tennessee is 37-48-8 all-time vs. Alabama, including wins in nine of the last 15 games in the series since 1995. The Vols are winless in their last four contests against the Crimson Tide, dating to 2007. UT’s last win at Tuscaloosa was a 51-43, fiveovertime win in 2003.  Tennessee won a series-best seven consecutive games over Alabama from 1995-2001.

 The Vols will attempt to reverse a recent trend in which they have scored 17 or fewer points in the last seven games vs. the Tide. UT has held Alabama to 13 or fewer points in four of the last seven meetings, but the Tide has averaged 30.7 points in the last four meetings.  UT is 3-3 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Tennessee at Alabama was played in Birmingham through 19997.

Tennessee vs. Alabama

 The Tennessee Vols continue their 115th season with their 94th all-time meeting against the No. 2-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Kickoff is slated for 7:21 p.m. on ESPN2. UT is 792-343-53 (.689) all-time.  The Vols are playing No. 2 Alabama after playing No. 1 LSU last week in Knoxville. Tennessee is playing the top two ranked teams in the nation in consecutive weeks for the first time in school history. The Vols played consecutive top-five teams in 2005 (No. 5 Georgia on Oct. 8, No. 5 Alabama on Oct. 22), but UT has never played consecutive games vs. opponents ranked in the top four nationally.  UT will attempt to snap a five-game road losing streak to SEC West opponents since 2007 (2007: Alabama, 2008: Auburn, 2009: Alabama, Ole Miss; 2010: LSU.  Tennessee is 48-25 (.658) in October since 1990, including a 23-10 (.697) record on the road. The Vols will attempt to reverse a recent trend in which they have lost nine of their last 12 during the month since Oct. 25, 2008 and six of the last seven.

A Tennessee Win Would...

 Improve the Vols to 4-3 for the first time since 2007. A win would also improve UT to 1-3 in the SEC.  End a four-game winless streak for Tennessee to Alabama and improve the Vols to 39-47-7 all-time vs. Alabama. A win would would also be the third in the last four road games for Tennessee.  Give the Vols their first win over a team ranked in the top two since a 34-32 win over No. 2 Florida on Dec. 1, 2001. A win would also be the first for the Vols over a top-five team since 2005 (30-27, Sept. 26 at No. 4 LSU) and the first over a top-ten team since 2006 (51-33, Oct. 7 at No. 10 Georgia).  Mark the eighth win for Tennessee in its last 11 regular-season games since Nov. 6, 2010 and improve the Vols to 4-3 in their last seven conference games dating to the Ole Miss game on Nov. 13, 2010.

Last Game - No. 1 LSU 38, Tennessee 7

 Tennessee fell to 3-3 with a 38-7 loss to top-ranked LSU on Oct. 15 at Neyland Stadium. The Vols fell to 2-8 all-time vs. top-ranked teams.  RB Tauren Poole rushed 19 times for 70 yards, the most against LSU this year, and one touchdown. KR Devrin Young led the team with 151 all-purpose yards, including 135 kickoff return yards and a seasonhigh, 60-yard return.  Three of the top four tacklers for Tennessee vs. LSU were true freshmen: LB A.J. Johnson (11), DB Brian Randolph (9), and LB Curt Maggitt (7). DT Malik Jackson also contributed a career-high eight tackles.  Young’s 135 kickoff return yards were the most for Tennessee since David Oku’s 149 vs. Ole Miss in 2009. A true freshman, Young is averaging 26.7 yards per kick return and 126.0 all-purpose yards in three games played. His 60-yard yard kickoff return was the longest for the Vols since Da’Rick Rogers’ 78-yard return vs. Kentucky in the final regular-season game of 2010.
