AT FIRST GLANCE THE ALABAMA GAME

¢ Saturday marks the 96th all-time meeting between Tennessee and Alabama. UT is 38-50-7 vs. the Tide in the series, including losses in six consecutive meetings. The last Tennessee win was a 16-13 victory in 2006 in Knoxville. ¢ Tennessee won a series-best, seven consecutive games over Alabama from 1995-2001. No other school has defeated the Tide seven consecutive times. ¢ UT will attempt to reverse a recent trend of scoring 17 or fewer points in the last nine meetings vs. the Tide, including 13 or fewer in the last five.

TENNESSEE KNOCKS OFF #11/9 SC

¢ The Vols improved to 23-7-2 all-time vs. South Carolina, including 15-2 at Neyland Stadium, with a 23-21 win over the No. 11-ranked Gamecocks on Oct. 19. South Carolina was also ranked No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. ¢ Michael Palardy’s 19-yard field goal as the clock expired was the first game-winning kick in regulation for UT since James Wilhoit’s 50-yarder to beat Florida on Sept. 18, 2004. ¢ The win represented the following for Tennessee: >> First win over a ranked opponent, and the first SEC win in October, since Oct. 31, 2009 vs. South Carolina (31-13), ending a streak of 19 consecutive losses to ranked teams starting with the Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Virginia Tech on Dec. 31, 2009. >> First win over a Top 15-ranked opponent since Oct. 27, 2007 vs. South Carolina (27-24). >> First win over a USA Today Coaches’ Poll Top 10-ranked opponent since a 51-33 win over No. 10 Georgia on Oct. 7, 2006 in Athens. ¢ Tennessee has a winning record (4-3) through its first seven games for the first time since 2007 (4-3).

SCHEDULE NOTES

¢ Once again, Tennessee is playing one of the most difficult schedules in the nation. ¢ The Vols have played four ranked teams: at #2 Oregon, at #19 Florida, #6 Georgia, and #11 South Carolina, and UT’s next three games are at #1 Alabama, at #5 Missouri, and vs. #11 Auburn. ¢ If Missouri and Auburn remain ranked, UT will play seven ranked opponents (at time of game) during the regular season for the first time in school history. ¢ With Missouri currently at #5 and Auburn sitting at #11, UT could tie the school record for most top 10 opponents in a season (five in 2005). ¢ In 1991, UT played six ranked teams in the regular season (#21 UCLA, #23 Mississippi St., #13 Auburn, at # 10 Florida, at #14 Alabama, at #5 Notre Dame), and played #6 Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl that year.
