AT FIRST GLANCE THE AUBURN GAME
¢ Saturday marks the 52nd all-time meeting between Tennessee and Auburn and the first since 2009. The Vols are 21-27-3 all-time vs. the Tigers, including a 14-9-2 mark at Neyland Stadium. ¢ Tennessee and Auburn are playing for the first time since 2009, when the Tigers won 26-22 in Knoxville. ¢ The Vols have lost five consecutive games to Auburn from 2003-09, following a streak in which UT was 5-0-1 vs. the Tigers from 1989-99. ¢ Tennessee and Auburn met every season from 1956-1991 prior to the league’s expansion to 12 teams.
HOMECOMING GAME
¢ Saturday is the 90th Homecoming game at the University of Tennessee. UT is 69-17-3 in Homecoming games, including four consecutive wins since 2009 and wins in nine of 10 since 2003. ¢ Auburn is the Homecoming opponent for Tennessee for the first time ever. ¢ Tennessee is also 27-2 on Homecoming since 1984, with the lone losses happening in 2002 vs. No. 1 Miami, Fla. (26-3) and in 2008 vs. Wyoming (13-7).
ANOTHER RANKED OPPONENT...
¢ No. 7 Auburn is the school-record seventh ranked team the Vols have played in the regular season in 2013. ¢ In 1991, UT played six ranked teams in the regular season (#21 UCLA, #23 Mississippi St., #13 Auburn, at #10 Florida, at #14 Alabama, at #5 Notre Dame). UT also played #6 Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl that season. ¢ According to Stats, Inc., UT is the first team since Pitt in 1993 to play seven ranked teams in eight games.
TOP 10...
¢ Including #1 Alabama and #10 Missouri, #7 Auburn is the third consecutive top 10 opponent for the Vols, the first time UT has played three consecutive top 10 foes since 1964 (#3 Alabama, at #7 LSU, #7 Georgia Tech). ¢ The game vs. Auburn allows Tennessee to tie the school record for the most top 10 opponents in a single season with five (also: at #2 Oregon, #6 Georgia, at #1 Alabama, at #10 Missouri). ¢ UT also played five Top 10 foes in 2005 (at #6 Florida, at #4 LSU, #5 Georgia, at #5 Alabama, at #8 Notre Dame).
MORE SCHEDULE NOTES
¢ This season is the first since 2005 that UT has played four ranked teams on the road, all consecutively (1995: #6 Florida, #4 LSU, #5 Alabama, #8 Notre Dame). ¢ According to the NCAA, the Vols have played the third-toughest schedule nationally in terms of cumulative opposition winning pct. to date at .727 (4015) behind Purdue (.809) and Utah (.735).
A TENNESSEE WIN WOULD...
Improve Tennessee to 5-5 and snap a five-game losing streak vs. Auburn, dating to 2003 and be the Vols’ first win over Auburn since Oct. 2, 1999, a 24-0 UT win. Snap an 19-game losing streak vs. AP Top 10 opponents dating to the 51-33 win at No. 10 Georgia in 2006. Earlier this season, So. Carolina was ranked No. 9 in the Coaches Poll when the Vols beat SC (23-21). Mark consecutive wins at home over ranked opponents for the first time since 2007 (35-14 over No. 12 Georgia on Oct. 6, 2007 and 27-24 in overtime over No. 15 South Carolina on Oct. 27, 2007). Mark Tennesse’s first win over an AP Top-10 team at Neyland Stadium since a season-opening 35-18 win over No. 9 Cal on Sept. 2, 1996. The Vols have lost eight consecutive home games vs. AP Top-10 teams.
