Despite fouling out, Punter finished with eight points, five rebounds and a game-high seven assists. • Vols freshman forward Jabari McGhee grabbed five offensive rebounds. • The game featured 62 total fouls (34 by UT). • Guard Melvin Johnson led the Rams with 23 points, but the Vols held preseason All-American Treveon Graham to 3-of-13 shooting (eight of Graham’s 15 points came at the foul line).

HONORS POSTSEASON

• Tennessee’s defense keyed a big non-conference victory, as the Vols took down Kansas State, 65-64, Dec. 6, 2014, in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at Thompson-Boling Arena. • Kansas State’s Marcus Foster (game-high 23 points) nailed four 3-pointers in the final 57 seconds to nearly bring the Wildcats back after a 10-point deficit in the final minute. But the Vols held on for Donnie Tyndall’s first-career win over a Big 12 team. • K-State committed 22 turnovers as the Vols came away with 12 steals. The 22 turnovers were the most by a Vols’ opponent since North Carolina A&T had 34 in 2009. Tennessee also blocked nine shots. • Senior Josh Richardson led the Vols with 17 points. Junior Armani Moore stuffed the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, a career-high five assists and a career-high five blocks. Freshmen Willie Carmichael III had the best game in his young career with nine points and six rebounds. • Kansas State was within five at 50-45 with 6:22 remaining, but the Wildcats missed their next three shots and turned the ball over three times in a span of two minutes as the Vols took advantage. • In holding K-State to 17 points at the half, the Vols had their best defensive first half since leading Presbyterian, 43-13, on Dec. 18, 2012.

RECORDS

• Tennessee suffered a 67-59 loss to Marquette in the third-place game of the Orlando Classic at HP Field House Nov. 30, 2014. • The Vols were led by Armani Moore, who had the first double-double of his career with 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. He was the Vols’ only scorer or rebounder in double-figures. • The Vols came out on fire, scoring the game’s first nine points. But, Tennessee was outscored 67-50 over the final 37 minutes. Marquette led 35-30 at halftime. • Down eight early in the second half, the Vols rallied to within one at 44-43 on Detrick Mostella’s first bucket of the game—a 3-pointer with 10:35 remaining. Duane Wilson then answered for Marquette with consecutive 3-pointers to return the Golden Eagles’ lead to seven, 50-43 with nine minutes left. • Wilson topped the Golden Eagles’ scoring chart with a career-high 30 points as he connected on 5-of-9 from 3-point range.

HONORS POSTSEASON VOLMANAC

• In a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament clash, Tennessee once again came out on top against Mercer. This time, the Vols rode their stout defense and sharp shooting from newcomer Devon Baulkman to a 64-54 win Dec. 22, 2014, at Thompson-Boling Arena. • Baulkman had his best game as a Vol, scoring 22 points while making 4-of-6 3-point shots. He also corralled six rebounds and had two steals and a key block in the second half. Josh Richardson tallied 11 points, handed out six assists and also had three steals. • Mercer was led by Ike Nwamu, who tallied a game- and career-high 30 points, including a 6-of-11 performance from 3-point range. • The Bears hung in the game thanks to Nwamu’s potent shooting. Aside from him, the 12 other Bears who played combined for 24 points and were 6-of-28 from the floor (.214). Overall, Mercer shot .326 as a team. • Tennessee took control of the game with a 19-2 run to end the first half, as Mercer missed its final 10 field-goal attempts of the half. The Vols led 27-15 at intermission. • The Vols forced Mercer into six turnovers over the final seven minutes of the opening half, and the Bears didn’t make a field goal for the final 9:48 of the half. • In limiting Mercer to 15 first-half points, the Vols had their best defensive half since leading Presbyterian, 43-13, on Dec. 18, 2012.

The Bulldogs made one 3-pointer in the game, shooing 1-of-9. • The Vols also benefitted from poor free-throw shooting by Mississippi State, as the Bulldogs were 24-of-44 at the charity stripe (.544). • Up three at halftime, Tennessee’s defense was stout in the second half as Mississippi State started the half 1-of-10. The Vols kept MSU without a field goal for more than 11 minutes as the Orange & White continued to add to their lead. Tennessee scored 22 of the first 29 points in the second half to lead 48-30 with 8:59 left.

• Tennessee’s mastery in road SEC games came to an end on Jan. 27, 2015, in Fayetteville, Ark., but not after nearly pulling off a fourth road win in a row at Arkansas. The Vols hung with the league’s highest-scoring team before falling, 69-64, at Bud Walton Arena. • The game was tied 14 times and the lead change hands eight times as neither team led by more than seven points (when Arkansas scored the game’s first seven points). • After scoring a career-high 16 points in the first meeting with Arkansas earlier in the month, Vols sophomore Robert Hubbs III once again had a huge game, with 15 points. • Senior Josh Richardson tallied a team-high 17, while junior Armani Moore scored 12 and grabbed six rebounds. Kevin Punter added 10 points. • The SEC’s leading scorer, Bobby Portis, led the Razorbacks with 17 points, 13 in the first half. Michael Qualls scored 15 with 12 in the second half. • Rashad Madden knocked down a 3-pointer with 4:28 left to give the Razorbacks a 63-60 lead. Punter and Bell traded buckets to keep the game a one-possession contest with three minutes left. • Two Arkansas free throws with 1:03 left in the game pushed its lead to five points, 67-62. • Richardson hit a jumper for the Vols with 52 seconds left, making it 67-64. • Punter stole the ball from Madden, giving the Vols a chance to tie the game with 11.9 seconds left. Hubbs got a great look at a corner 3-pointer, but the shot rattled out.

• In a rugged battle, Tennessee captured a 71-63 victory over Auburn Jan. 31, 2015, at Thompson-Boling Arena. Attendance was a season-high 18,439. • Junior Armani Moore posted his fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 19 points and tied his career-high with 13 rebounds. Junior Kevin Punter netted 17 points. Senior Josh Richardson added 15, and junior Derek Reese had 11. • Tennessee’s 11-0 run midway through the second half put the Vols in front for good, 60-52, keyed by Punter’s right-side corner 3-pointer with 8:39 left in the second half. • Moore scored six points in one second of game action to give Tennessee a 45-43 lead with 13:04 left in the second. Moore hit a short jumper in the lane on which Auburn’s Trayvon Reed was called for a flagrant-two foul and was ejected after a flying elbow to Moore’s face. Moore proceeded to make both free throws and then hit a layup as action continued. • The Vols led 33-29 at the half as Punter had 10 points for UT and point guard Tahj Shamsid-Deen netted 10 for the Tigers. • Auburn’s leading scorer, KT Harrell, finished with a team-high 16 points for the Tigers. • The game marked the emotional return of former Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl, who led the UT program from 2005-11 and is in his first season as the Auburn head coach. Pearl has now lost each of the last four games he’s coached in Thompson-Boling Arena.

HONORS POSTSEASON VOLMANAC

• Ole Miss held on for a 59-57 win over Tennessee Feb. 21, 2015, as Vol senior Josh Richardson’s jumper at the buzzer rimmed out. • Junior Armani Moore led Tennessee with 15 points and nine rebounds. Richardson tallied 13 points, while Kevin Punter added 12, making four 3-pointers. • Rebel Stefan Moody was the game’s top scorer with 22 points, as he knocked down 6-of-11 from 3-point range. Jarvis Summers tallied 13 for Ole Miss. • The game saw 20 combined 3-pointers as the Vols were 9-of-23 from beyond the arc while Ole Miss was 11-of-31. The Vols out-rebounded the Rebels, 37-28. • In a game that was tied four times in the final seven minutes, Moody’s pair of free throws with 1:54 left put Ole Miss up for good at 58-57. Summers added another foul shot with 27.5 left to push the Rebels lead to two at 59-57. • Richardson had a chance to give the Vols the lead and tie the game in the final 10 seconds. First his 3-point attempt with eight seconds left bounced off. Robert Hubbs III grabbed the offensive rebound giving Tennessee a final chance with 4.8 seconds remaining. • Richardson had a chance to send the game to overtime, but his short jumper rimmed in and out and the Rebels walked off the court winners. • The Vols didn’t score for the final 3:07 of the game and didn’t make a field goal for the last 4:12. • The game turned into a 3-point duel midway through the second half, as the teams combined to make six consecutive triples.

RECORDS

• The undersized and undermanned Vols battled the top-ranked team in the nation before dropping a 66-48 decision in front of a sold-out Thompson-Boling Arena crowd Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015. • Junior guard Kevin Punter led the Vols with 14 points, while senior guard Josh Richardson tallied 10. • Kentucky was led by Devin Booker, who netted 18 points, despite shooting 5-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-9 from 3-point range. Andrew Harrison added 14 points for the Wildcats. • Tennessee’s defense played havoc with Kentucky all night. The Wildcats shot just 41.5 percent from the floor, including 37.5 percent in the second half. Kentucky made 5-of-22 3-pointers, 1-of-9 in the second half. • The Vols were within seven points for the game’s first 31 minutes. They cut their deficit to four points on three different occasions midway through the second half, bringing the crowd to a fever pitch. • Punter finished a layup off a baseball pass from Richardson with nine minutes left to bring the Vols to within 48-44. • Kentucky took firm control with a 10-0 run to take the first doublefigure lead of the game with less than seven minutes to go on a KarlAnthony Towns 3-point play. The layup, which was Towns’ first shot attempt of the game, extended the Wildcats’ lead to 55-44 with 6:54 left in the game. Trey Lyles’ putback with five minutes put UK up 58-44. • Despite its size disadvantage, UT battled the Cats to a deadlock on the boards, 35-35.

• In a contest of scoring streaks, Vanderbilt made 13 consecutive field goals to close the game and hand Tennessee a 73-65 loss Feb. 26, 2015, at Thompson-Boling Arena. • The Vols led by as many as 13 points in the second half, but Vanderbilt rallied behind shooting 84.2 percent from the floor after halftime to split the season home-and-home series. • Senior Josh Richardson led the Vols in scoring with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Derek Reese added 13 points and five rebounds. • The game involved big momentum swings by both teams. Vanderbilt started the game on a 16-5 run, but the Vols closed out the first half on a 25-3 run. The final scoring streak belonged to the Commodores, however, who had a 31-7 run in the second half. • Vanderbilt built its lead 16-5 early thanks to a 12-0 run, but the Vols answered with a run of their own to take a 17-16 lead, capped by a 3-pointer by junior Kevin Punter with 8:03 on the clock. Tennessee eventually scored 14 unanswered points. • Using that run, the Vols finished the first half outscoring the Commodores 25-3 and held Vanderbilt scoreless for the final 6:02 until halftime. The Commodores were 0-for-9 from the field during that scoreless stretch. • Tennessee led 30-19 at halftime. • Tennessee had a major 37-19 advantage in rebounding, including 19-1 in offensive rebounds. • Armani Moore led Tennessee with 16 points, but the Vols could not overcome Florida’s first-half surge, falling to the Gators, 66-49, on Feb. 28, 2015, in Gainesville. • Moore shot 7-of-8 from the field and also corralled a team-best five rebounds. Derek Reese finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Eli Carter (11 points) and Jon Horford (10 points) also reached doublefigures for Florida. • Tennessee climbed back to within 15 points with 7:35 remaining after a Richardson 3-pointer. The Gators held off the Vols’ attack over the last few minutes to secure the win. • UT outscored Florida, 27-26, in the second half, but the Gators’ hot first half was too much to overcome. • Florida controlled the first half, taking a 40-22 lead into the break. The Gators shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the floor and went 7-of-11 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. • The game started with both teams trading 3-pointers, but Florida seized control early with a triple by Carter five minutes into the game that gave the Gators a 15-5 advantage. • Tennessee pulled to within six points, 22-16, on a dunk by Robert Hubbs III at the 9:50 mark. However, Florida went on a 12-2 run over the final four minutes of the half to stretch its lead to 18 at the break.

HONORS POSTSEASON

• Tennessee closed its 2014-15 regular-season with a 60-49 loss to South Carolina March 7, 2015, at Thompson-Boling Arena. • It was senior day for three Vols, as Josh Richardson, Galen Campbell and Brandon Lopez were honored before the game. Richardson played his 134rd career game and his final contest at Thompson-Boling Arena, scoring 14 points, grabbing six rebounds, handing out six assists and coming away with four steals. • Sophomore guard Robert Hubbs III also scored 14 points in the loss. • The Gamecocks ended a 15-game losing streak to the Vols that dated to 2007. • Michael Carrera led the way for the Gamecocks with 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Three other Gamecocks scored in doublefigures: Duane Notice (12), Sindarius Thornwell (10) and Tyrone Johnson (10). • South Carolina’s defense flummoxed the Vols all day, as Tennessee shot 35.6 percent from the floor, making just seven 2-point field goals. • South Carolina used a 21-4 run midway through the first half to take a lead it would never relinquish. • South Carolina’s zone defense held the Vols to just seven made field goals in the first half as no Vol scored more than five points in the first 20 minutes. • Tennessee wore its orange road uniforms.

RECORDS

• Tennessee senior Josh Richardson scored 20 points and junior Armani Moore finished with 19 to lead the Vols to a 78-63 victory over LSU March 4, 2015, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La. • After being tied at halftime, the Vols shot 69.2 percent from the floor and outscored LSU 45-30 in the second half on their way to snapping a five-game losing streak. • UT was effective from the floor and from 3-point range in the second half, shooting 18-of-26 from the field (69.2 percent) and 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Vols finished the game shooting 52.4 percent from the field. LSU shot just 37.5 percent from the field in the second half. • Tennessee led by as many as 18 points when Kevin Punter hit a heavily guarded 3-pointer with 8:31 remaining. LSU eventually cut the lead to 11 points but never again came within single digits of the Vols. • Keith Hornsby led the way for the Tigers. He made 5 3-pointers to finish with 23 points. Jarell Martin had 16 points and five rebounds, and Jordan Mickey had nine points and eight rebounds. • Tennessee and LSU were tied 33-33 at halftime, thanks to the Vols’ work on the glass. The Vols out-rebounded the taller Tigers squad 22-15, converting 11 offensive rebounds into eight second-chance points. • It marked the 10th straight year that Tennessee has gone on the road at the end of the regular season to spoil an SEC opponent’s home finale.
