AT FIRST GLANCE THE GEORGIA GAME

¢ Saturday’s game is the 44th meeting between Tennessee and Georgia. The Vols own a 21-20-2 edge in the series, which stands at 10-10-1 in games played in Athens. ¢ Georgia has won four consecutive games in the series, including a 34-31 overtime win at Neyland Stadium in 2013. The Vols’ last win in the series was a 45-19 win in Knoxville in 2009, UGA’s largest defeat in the last six seasons. ¢ Tennessee’s last road win over a ranked opponent was a 51-33 win over Georgia in Athens in 2006. ¢ The last three meetings between Georgia and Tennessee have been decided by eight points or fewer (8, UGA 20-12 in 2011; 7, UGA 51-44 in 2012; and 3, UGA 34-31 (OT) in 2013). However, six of the last nine meetings in the series have been decided by 12-plus points. ¢ After playing at #4/3 Oklahoma, the Vols are playing consecutive road games vs. ranked teams for the third consecutive year. UT played at #1 Alabama (10/26) and at #10 Missouri (11/2) in 2013, and at #5 Georgia (9/29) and at #19 Mississippi State (10/13) in consecutive games in 2012.

THIRD DOWN DEFENSE

¢ The Vols lead the SEC and rank second in the nation by limiting opponents to a third down conversion rate of 23.3% (10 for 43). In the last game, UT limited #4/3 Oklahoma to 3-for-14 on third downs, OU’s lowest third down conversion pct. at home since 2009.  Opponent Third Down Conversion Percentage Category Oregon State TENNESSEE Louisville

Defensive 3rd Down Pct. 23.1 (9-39) 23.3 (10-43) 23.7 (14-59)

22 TRUE FRESHMEN, 34 NEWCOMERS

¢ Tennessee has played 22 true freshmen, the most for any FBS program in the nation this season. UT played 21 true freshman in the win over Utah State, a school record for a season opener. ¢ Of the Vols 70-man travel squad to Georgia, only 13 played in the last meeting in Athens in 2012.

DISCIPLINED FOOTBALL

¢ Despite the abundance of youth both on the roster and in the starting lineup, Tennessee leads the nation in fewest penalty yards per game at 21.33 yards per game.  Fewest Penalty Yards Per Game, FBS, 2014 Category Penalty Yards Per Game TENNESSEE 21.33 Notre Dame 24.33 Clemson 24.67

¢ The Vols also lead the SEC in fewest penalties per game, averaging 3.0/game, a total that ranks tied for third nationally. UT has only been penalized nine times for 64 yards in three games this season.

A TENNESSEE WIN WOULD...

Mark Tennessee’s first road win over a ranked opponent since a 51-33 win over No. 10 Georgia in Athens on Oct. 7, 2006 and end a 20-game losing streak on the road against ranked teams. Represent the Vols first win vs. Georgia since a 45-19 win in 2009 in Knoxville and first at Georgia since that game in 2006. Move Butch Jones’ record following open weeks to 10-2 and improve the Vols to 80-38-9 following open dates. Improve Tennessee to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC, allowing the Vols to be the only team without a conference loss in the SEC East. A win would also end a nine-year streak of a loss for UT in its first SEC game in a season.
