Tennessee Boasts Four of the Top 15 Hitters in the SEC! The most recent Southeastern Conference stats are just awash with Lady Vols. As of March 20 (prior to the Alabama doubleheader), Tennessee boasted four of the top 15 hitters by average in the league as Kat Dotson sat second (.494), Raven Chavanne was fourth (.476), Kelly Grieve was seventh (.432) and Shelby Burchell was 12th (.395). The quartet is a major part of the reason that the Big Orange also boasted the league’s top team batting average of .379, ahead of second-place Florida (.362) and third-place Alabama (.342). The Series With Alabama... Tennessee and Alabama own a great deal of history playing each other, having met 43 times since christening the series back in 1997, and spanning regular season, SEC Tournament and even a WCWS match-up (2005). The Crimson Tide maintains a 29-14 series advantage all-time and hold a 10-7 lead in games played in Knoxville. UT enters Tuesday’s doubleheader having lost five straight to Alabama, two consecutive meetings in Knoxville and seven of the last eight overall to UA. IN ALL 10 OF TENNESSEE’S 14 TOTAL WINS AGAINST THE CRIMSON TIDE HAVE OCCURRED SINCE CO-HEAD COACHES RALPH AND KAREN WEEKLY ARRIVED TO HELM THE BIG ORANGE PROGRAM PRIOR TO THE 2002 CAMPAIGN. Certain Lady Vols Keep Hitting and Hitting and... As of March 21st, sophomore Kat Dotson is currently on a UT season-long 11-GAME HITTING STREAK during which she’s hit .528 overall (19-of-36) with an amazing seven HR’s and 29 RBIs. She has also registered an astronomical 1.278 slugging percentage and is a perfect 10-of-10 on stolen bases during the stretch. Senior Kelly Grieve recently went on a sevengame skein over March 5-17 during which she’s posted a .522 mark with a HR and eight RBIs. A Stunning Performance! Sophomore Kat Dotson did something on March 15 during a 16-2 (6 inn.) win over Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn., that no Lady Vol and few in NCAA softball history had ever accomplished, by registering a staggering NINE RBIS IN A SINGLE GAME.
