2011 LADY VOL SOCCER SCHEDULE

Oct. 23, 2011 | Regal Soccer Stadium | Knoxville, Tenn.

Big Orange Slices... UT Has THREE of Top Drawer Soccer’s Top 20 SEC Players  Top Drawer Soccer has released a list of what it deems the Top 20 Players in Southeastern Conference soccer and the Lady Vols are well represented. Sophomore forward Caroline Brown came in at #5, senior forward Emily Dowd was #8 and senior forward Chelsea Hatcher rated #16. Tennessee joined Florida and LSU as the only three league schools to boast a trio of players on the illustrious listing. The Road to Orange Beach  Time before the annual SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama, is growing short and teams are jockeying for one of eight spots in the league’s showcase event slated for Nov. 2-6. As of Oct. 21, Tennessee sits seventh overall in the standings, with two matches remaining. The Lady Vols already own a win over Florida and still have contests to play against Auburn and Georgia. LSU, South Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama own the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the Big Orange by virtue of their wins over UT. 2011 SEC TOURNAMENT SEEDINGS (If the regular season ended on Oct. 21) SEC Pts GD GS GA Matches Left 1. Arkansas 2-7-0 6 -13 5 18 at SC, LS Chalk Up Another Rare Feat Achieved  Only once before in Lady Vol soccer history had two players totaled 10 or more goals during the same season. That occurred back during 1998 as Allison Campbell (17 goals) and Laura Lauter (12 goals) crossed into double-digits. Well Tennessee sophomore forward Caroline Brown (10 goals) and senior forward Emily Dowd (10 goals) have now joined that duo in 2011. Brown scored her 10th during the thrilling rally past Ole Miss on Oct. 7, while Dowd hit double figures with her match-winner against Mississippi State on Oct. 9. It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over!  The old adage proved especially true for the Big Orange soccer squad on Fri., Oct. 7, as Tennessee showed its match truly wasn’t over till it was over against Ole Miss. UT spotted the Rebels a 3-0 lead at the half before the Lady Vols began a stirring rally to post a 4-3 (OT) victory on senior forward Chelsea Hatcher’s “golden goal” at 91:33. The occurrence marked the LARGEST COMEBACK IN UT SOCCER HISTORY and also just the fourth time in UT annals that the team allowed three goals during a match and still managed to win. The Orange & White spotted #15 Duke a 3-1 halftime lead back on Aug. 27, 2004, before rallying for a 4-3 (OT) triumph. Tennessee also emerged victorious over Georgia (4-3, OT) on Oct. 27, 2000, and Colorado College (7-5) on Nov. 1, 1998. Looking at the Trends  At this point in any season certain trends begin developing statistically with a team and Tennessee soccer in 2011 is certainly no different. Entering their match vs. Auburn on Oct. 23, the Lady Vols are an impressive 8-0-0 during day matches but just 4-5-0 during night contests. UT is a perfect 7-0-0 when leading at the half, but only 1-3-0 when behind at the break and 5-5-0 when trailing or tied at the half. The Big Orange is 10-0-0 in contests in which they total at least two goals and just 2-5-0 when scoring a single tally or less. Tennessee is also 10-2-0 when permitting one goal or less and just 2-3-0 when allowing two or more scores.

The Scouting Report Scouting Auburn  Tennessee leads the all-time series over Auburn 9-5-0, but the two teams have split the previous four meetings. UT is 4-1 versus the Tigers in Knoxville but dropped a 3-1 decision to AU during the last match-up at the Regal Soccer Stadium back on Oct. 22, 2009.  The Blue & Orange enters the contest at 11-4-2 overall and 5-3-1 in SEC action, good enough for fifth in the most updated league standings. Auburn is unbeaten in its last three matches (2-0-1) with victories over LSU (3-0) and Arkansas (3-1) and most recently a tie against Georgia (0-0, 2OT). AU is just 1-3 on the road in SEC play.  Senior MF Katy Frierson (5 G, 11 A), junior MF Ana Cate (8 G, 4 A) and freshman F Tatiana Cole (6 G, 7 A) lead an Auburn offense that boasts five players with four or more scores. Between the pipes, redshirt freshman Chandler Hillen owns a 7-1 record with a 1.07 GAA and 24 saves, while junior Amy Howard is 4-3-1 with a 1.36 GAA and 31 saves.  Auburn enters its contest against the Lady Vols with the second-highest scoring offense in the SEC, totaling 38 total goals for a 2.24 goal-per-match average. Tennessee is currently tied for third in scores with 36 and tallying at a 2.12 GPM clip to rate third. UT is second in the league defensively, allowing just 15 goals for a 0.88 goals-per-match mark, while the Tigers rate eighth in the SEC, having permitted 22 goals for a 1.29 GPM average.
