Big Orange Slices... The All-Time Series Against the Tigers Tennessee leads its all-time series against Auburn by a 26-18 count, having won 14 of the last 19 meetings between the two programs dating back to 2006. UT is just 9-10 overall at Jane B. Moore Field on “the Plains” of Auburn, but is on a two-game winning streak at the road site after rebounding from an opening loss in 2010 to secure a series win by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. During the coaching tenure of Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, Tennessee is 20-12 overall against the Tigers and 5-7 on the road in Auburn. Over the last few seasons the series has been closely contested with nine of the last 12 match-ups being settled by one or two runs. Included is a 2-1 (8 inn.) AU victory in Auburn back on March 30, 2008, and a pair of extra-inning Tennessee wins in Knoxville (2-1 in 11 inn. - April 11, 2009); 2-1 in 10 inn. - April 1, 2011). Last season at Lee Softball Stadium, Tennessee won its series against the Tigers two-games-to-one. Kelly Grieve blasted first pitch of the 10th inning for a HR in a 2-1, series-opening UT win. Then the two squads took turns posting routs as Auburn took Saturday’s contest 9-1 before the Big Orange rebounded for a 8-0 (6 inn.) triumph in the finale. The teams met in the SEC Tournament semifinals in Oxford, Miss., on May 13, with Tennessee prevailing 2-1 on the way to its second league tourney crown. Can’t Catch Raven! Opposing catchers must have nightmares consisting of Tennessee speedster Raven Chavanne swiping bases. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native hasn’t been thrown out on the base paths since back on March 11, 2011, at Kentucky, during which time she HAS STOLEN 36 CONSECUTIVE BASES without being caught. The junior third baseman has played in 76 games for the Big Orange over that stretch. Ivy’s Surging Once Again... Junior pitcher Ivy Renfroe has made a habit of getting stronger as seasons go on during her career at Tennessee. If her recent performance is any clue, the Jackson, Tenn., native may be beginning her surge at a vital time as UT ventures into the late conference and postseason slates. The 6-0 right hander got this recent upswing started with a tremendous 11-inning effort in a tough loss at #1 Alabama on March 21 and has continued it to four consecutive decision victories since that defeat, including one over #9/10 Georgia. Over her last seven starts, Renfroe is 4-1 with five complete games, three solo shutouts and 40 strikeouts over 40 innings. She enters the series at Auburn having permitted just two runs over her last 28.1 frames.
