2011 LADY VOL SOCCER SCHEDULE
Sept. 9, 2011 | Regal Soccer Stadium | Knoxville,Tenn.
Big Orange Slices... Off to Our Best Start Since 2003! At 5-1 overall through its first six matches, Tennessee is off to its best opening to a campaign since also starting 5-1 in both 2002 & 2003. With a contest on Friday against Charlotte, the Lady Vol soccer team has a chance to equal the best record over the opening seven contests in program history at 6-1 done by the 2002 & 2003 UT squads. Both of those teams eventually won either SEC regular season (2003) or tournament titles (2002, 2003) and advanced on to the NCAA Sweet 16. Loads of Success Against NCAA Teams Tennessee has come up big during the early season against programs that were a part of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. UT is already 4-1 against last year’s entrants into the NCAA Field of 64 with wins over Oklahoma, #18 Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee and UNC Greensboro and a razor-thin 2-1 loss to #8 UCLA. The Big Orange still has more opportunities to make a mark with 2010 NCAA teams Florida, South Carolina and Auburn left on its schedule. The Defense Keeps Putting Up Zeroes! Tennessee’s defensive backline has been making quite a statement by continually putting zeroes up on the opponent’s side of the scoreboard. The Orange & White have now pitched three consecutive shutouts (#18 Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee and UNC Greensboro) for the first time since Sept. 9-16, 2007, and have held the opposition scoreless over a stretch of 275:38 dating back to a Bruin goal at 84:22 during UT’s 2-1 loss to then-#8 UCLA. Back during the 2007 campaign UT posted a program record scoreless skein of 457:35 that stretched over parts of five matches from Sept. 7-Sept. 21, 2007. Between the pipes freshman Julie Eckel has stopped the last 19 opponent shots on frame while lowering her goals-against-average to just 0.66. This marks the sixth time in program history that Tennessee has registered three consecutive shutouts (1998, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2011). ***The only time UT posted four blankings in a row was from Oct. 28-Nov. 6, 2005.
