Tennessee opened the 2010-11 season with a hard-fought 6350 win over Louisville in the first-ever regular season contest at the Cardinals’ brand new KFC! Yum Center. In front of a BIG EAST record 22,124 fans, freshman guard Meighan Simmons sparked the Lady Vols to victory with 22 points and eight boards in 31 minutes off the bench. Junior guard Shekinna Stricklen recorded her seventh career double-double (14 pts, 12 rebs), as UT dominated the glass by a margin of 53-29 and held U of L to just 30.5 percent shooting.
The Lady Mocs enter the 2010-11 campaign as the 11-time defending Southern Conference Champions...Chattanooga finished last season with an overall record of 24-9, with a conference record of 16-4...UTC made it to the 2010 NCAA Tournament, but was defeated by Oklahoma State in the first round...The team returns sophomore guard Kayla Christopher, who started 28 of 29 games, earning Southern Conference All-Tournament First Team and AllFreshman Team honors

Pat Summitt, in her 37th year as head coach of the Lady Vols, boasts an overall career record of 1,038 wins and 196 losses and eight national championships. Summitt is joined on the sidelines by associate head coach Holly Warlick and assistant coaches Mickie DeMoss and Dean Lockwood.
Head Coach Wes Moore is now in his 13th season as the head coach of the Lady Mocs and 21st overall. Moore holds a 290-86 record during his tenure at Chattanooga and touts a career record of 490-142. The Tennessee alum is assisted by Nikki Blassingame, Katie Burrows and Mike Murray.

This will mark the 30th all-time meeting between fourth-ranked Tennessee and Chattanooga...The Lady Vols hold a 23-6 advantage and haven’t lost to the Lady Mocs since 1973...Their last match-up, a 66-63 Tennessee win on Nov. 21, 2008 in Chattanooga, was the rivalry’s closest contest since UT grabbed a 67-66 victory in 1976...Glory Johnson, then a freshman, scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against UTC two years ago...Despite turning the ball over 29 times and managing only 11 assists, the Lady Vols opened the season with a 63-50 win at Louisville...It marked Tennessee’s 11th straight seasonopening win...While freshman Meighan Simmons (22 pts, 8 rebs) and Shekinna Stricklen (14 pts, 12 rebs, 4 steals) were the catalysts for UT, redshirt junior center Kelley Cain also had a productive night, tallying eight points, seven boards and two blocks in just 18 minutes...She scored six straight points early in the second half and sealed the game with a shot-clock-beating layup to put UT ahead 59-50 with 1:57 left in the contest...Redshirt junior Vicki Baugh appeared in her first game since re-injuring her knee on Feb. 3, 2009, and finished with two points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes...Freshman guard Lauren Avant and Simmons made their collegiate debuts...Tennessee returned all 11 letterwinners from the 2009-10 team that went 32-3 and swept the SEC regular season and tournament titles...Senior guard Angie Bjorklund and Stricklen were preseason All-SEC First Team selections this fall... UT takes a 19-game home winning streak into tonight’s game.
Just like the Lady Vols, tonight’s game will be Chattanooga’s second of the season...The Lady Mocs are coming off a home loss to East Tennessee State by a score of 77-60 on Friday evening...At halftime against ETSU, the Lady Mocs trailed by just one (34-33), but were outscored 43-27 in the second half...UTC had three scorers in double figures in the season opener, as sophomore Kayla Christopher led the way with 16, followed by redshirt junior Whitney Hood with 15 and junior Tenissha Townsend, who added 12...Redshirt junior Bailey Dewart grabbed a team-high 11 boards against the Lady Bucs... Chattanooga defeated Lee University 65-49 in an exhibition on Nov. 4...In the exhibition, UTC jumped out to a 16-0 advantage to start the game, which proved to be the difference...Hood, a Clemson transfer, just missed a double-double, posting game highs in points (20) and rebounds (8)...The Lady Mocs return four letterwinners from last year’s squad along with three redshirts and five freshmen...Despite winning 11 consecutive Southern Conference titles, the league coaches and media selected Chattanooga to finish third in the preseason standings...Christopher was UTC’s lone selection to the preseason All-Conference squad and was selected to the league’s All-Freshman team last year, while also earning a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament team...In the 12 years that Wes Moore has been at the helm, the Lady Mocs have been to 11 consecutive postseason tournaments, including eight NCAA tournament bids.
