2011 LADY VOL SOCCER SCHEDULE

Sept. 16, 2011 | Regal Soccer Stadium | Knoxville,Tenn.

Big Orange Slices... Off to Our Best Start Since 2003!  At 6-1 overall through its first seven matches, Tennessee is off to its best start to a campaign since also opening 6-1 in both 2002 & 2003. With a home contest on Friday against Coastal Carolina, the Lady Vol soccer team has a chance to enter uncharted territory by registering the best eight-contest start to a year in program history at 7-1. The 2007 Big Orange began the season at 6-1-1, while the 2002 & 2003 squads put up 6-2 marks. All three of those teams eventually advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. UT in the SEC/NCAA Stats  In the most recent release of the SEC statistics (as of Sept. 13), Tennessee tied for second in total team points (45), ranked third in goals scored (16) and fourth in both goals allowed (four) and goals-againstaverage (0.57). Individually, sophomore forward Caroline Brown is currently first in match-winning goals (four), is dead-locked for first in the league in goals (six), is tied for second in goals-per-match (0.86) and rates third in both points (14) and points-per-match (2.00). Junior midfielder Kylie Bono is tied for fifth in assists (three) and for eighth in assists-per-match (0.43). Between the pipes freshman Julie Eckel is dead-locked for first in solo shutouts (three), is second in saves (35) and third in save percentage (.897). As of Sept. 13 Brown was tied for the NCAA Division I lead with four match-winning goals and ranked 24th in the NCAA in points-per-match and 25th in goals-per-match. Loads of Success Against NCAA Teams  Tennessee has come up big during the early season against programs that were a part of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. UT is already 4-1 against last year’s entrants into the NCAA Field of 64 with wins over Oklahoma, #18 Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee and UNC Greensboro and a razor-thin 2-1 loss to #8 UCLA. The Big Orange still has more opportunities to make a mark with 2010 NCAA teams Florida, South Carolina and Auburn left on its schedule. The Defense Keeps Putting Up Zeroes!  Tennessee’s defensive backline has been making quite a statement by continually putting zeroes up on the opponent’s side of the scoreboard. The Orange & White have now pitched FOUR CONSECUTIVE SHUTOUTS (#18 Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee, UNC Greensboro and Charlotte) for only the second time in school history (previous was Oct. 28-Nov. 6, 2005), and have held the opposition scoreless over a stretch of 365:38 dating back to a Bruin goal at 84:22 during UT’s 2-1 loss to then-#8 UCLA. Back during the 2007 campaign UT posted a program record scoreless skein of 457:35 that stretched over parts of five matches from Sept. 7-Sept. 21, 2007. Tennessee needs to hold the opposition scoreless for just 91:57 more to equal the record, a little over one regulation match. Between the pipes freshman Julie Eckel has stopped the last 22 opponent shots on frame while lowering her goals-against-average to 0.57.
