Tennessee’s SEC Regular Season Title Scenarios Well Tennessee enters this weekend’s series at Florida with the SEC regular season crown on the line. Assuming Alabama sweeps its three-contest set at Ole Miss (as one would expect), UT would need to win 2-of-3 at UF to pick up the program’s second regular season crown (previous was in 2007). If the Crimson Tide were to drop a single game to the Rebels, then the Lady Vols would need only one triumph over the Gators to take the title. The only way for Florida to enter the championship picture would be for Alabama to lose one of its games to Ole Miss and UF to sweep Tennessee. The title is awarded based on winning percentage in league contests.

The All-Time Series Versus Florida...

Tennessee trails Florida by a 35-18 margin in the all-time series between the two teams but 11 of those UT triumphs have occurred since the arrival of Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly to helm the Lady Vol program prior to the 2002 campaign (11-21 vs. UF). UT is 5-19 in its previous visits to Gainesville, Fla., however, only ever winning one series there back in 2007, two games to one. The Big Orange was swept in its last visit to Pressly Stadium back in 2009.

We’re Leading the Nation...

Tthe Lady Vol offense has been something special this season as witnessed by it’s NCAA Division I-best .360 batting average (as of May 4). UT also rates 14th in ERA in the country (1.65), joining Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette and Michigan as the only four teams to currently be ranked in the top 14 in the nation in both team batting average and ERA. Tennessee also has boasts of the top 14 hitters in the nation in Raven Chavanne (fifth at .473) and Lauren Gibson (14th at .444).

Love That Run Rule!

Tennessee has made winning by the run-rule a habit during its 2011 campaign. The Lady Vols have downed 20 OPPONENTS in either five or six innings, including seven in a row to open the season. The most run-rules by a single Big Orange team occurred back in 2006 as that squad posted 23 such victories on the way to a 61-12 record and a third-place finish at the WCWS.

That’s So Raven!

Tennessee sophomore Raven Chavanne was honored this past week as the NFCA Division I Co-National Player of the Week (May 3), the SEC Player of the Week and the Lady Vol Athlete of the Week for her efforts in last weekend’s dominant sweep over Arkansas (April 29-May 1). The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native hit .857 (6-of-7) at the dish, reached in nine of 10 plate appearances by hit or walk and even reached in seven straight plate visits during the series against the Hogs.

A Fixture in the Rankings The Lady Vols are making a habit of finding themselves in the rankings according to the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. TENNESSEE HAS NOW BEEN RANKED IN EACH OF THE LAST 116 POLLS DATING BACK TO THE PRESEASON RELEASE OF THE 2004 SEASON. A big opening weekend in ‘04 boosted UT from unranked status into the Top 25 at No. 19 and the squad hasn’t left since. The highest ranking achieved by Tennessee during that span occurred in 2007 when UT spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the way to a national runner-up finish.

Tennessee opened the 2011 campaign at No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings, UT’s highest starting position to begin the year since being rated No. 2 in the 2007 preseason listing. The Lady Vols also started at No. 3 prior to the 2006 season.

By being tabbed at #3 in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, Tennessee equaled its highest position achieved in either rating during the 2011 campaign (USA Today/NFCA poll--Feb. 15).

Ivy’s Surging at the Right Time...

Sophomore pitcher Ivy Renfroe continued her late-season surge by firing her second career no-hitter in downing Mississippi State, 8-0 (6 inn.), on April 22. Over her last nine appearances in the circle, the Jackson, Tenn., native is 8-0 with a 0.41 ERA to go along with three complete game shutouts and 58 K’s in 51 innings of work. She also posted a string of 34.1 consecutive frames without allowing a single earned run.

Hot at the Plate Sophomore Raven Chavanne and junior Jessica Spigner are on quite a recent roll at the plate. Chavanne is currently on a career-long 14-GAME HITTING STREAK during which she is hitting at a .604 clip (29-of-48) with 16 runs scored and eight stolen bases while raising her SEC-leading average to .473 overall. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native has now hit safely in 41 of Tennessee’s 51 games this season, has reached by hit or walk in a staggering 46 of her 51 contests and has at least two hits in each of her last seven match-ups entering this weekend’s series at Florida.

Spigner has blasted seven HR’s over her last 13 contests to give her a team-high 14 big flies for the season. That moved the Santa Clarita, Calif., product to second in UT career history with 36 HR’s and to within two HR’s of equaling the Tennessee single season record of 16 HR’s set by former Lady Vol All-American Tonya Callahan back in 2008.

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL Some Interesting Statistics It’s always to see how stats develop during a softball season and 2011 is no different. Want proof of how important defense is to a team? Tennessee is 26-0 this season when making zero errors and just 18-7 otherwise. How about pitching? UT is 37-0 when limiting an opponent to two or fewer runs and just 7-7 when allowing three or more tallies. What about total hits? UT is 41-2 when out-hitting its opponent and just 3-5 when getting out-hit. The Big Orange also seem to enjoy playing under the lights (contests beginning at 6 p.m. or later) as the Lady Vols are a perfect 17-0 in night games this year.

Unbeaten on the Tube in 2011!

The Lady Vols seem to really enjoy playing on television thus far in 2011 as UT owns a perfect 8-0 record on the tube with wins over South Carolina (SportSouth), #22 Auburn (ESPNU), #2 Georgia (CSS/ESPN3.com/two wins), Ole Miss (SportSouth), at #21 LSU (ESPN2/ESPN3.com) and Mississippi State (SportSouth/two wins). Tennessee returns to the small screen for all three contests this weekend at Florida.

We Went Streaking!!!!

Tennessee recently posted a SEASON-LONG 13-GAME WINNING STREAK that began after a loss to #22 Auburn on April 2 and ended on April 23 vs. Mississippi State. UT already had an 11-game winning streak that stretched from Feb. 22 (Southern Utah) through March 6 (Georgia Southern), ending eventually in a 9-6 loss at #23 Kentucky. The 13-game win streak marked the longest for the Big Orange since posting a 17-game winning skein from February 7-March 6, 2009. The 2007 Lady Vol squad continues to hold the school mark of 26 straight victories over a stretch from March 17-April 28, 2007.

A Powerful Trio of Lady Vols!

In 10 seasons under the guidance of Ralph and Karen Weekly it hasn’t been unusual for Tennessee softball to have one or perhaps even two players each register 10 or more HR’s during the course of a single campaign. But to have three players accomplish the feat during the same season...that’s a rarity.

Well the 2011 Tennessee Lady Vols have a trio that has accomplished that very feat by each hitting 10+ HR’s, marking the first time that has occurred since the Weeklys’ very first UT squad back in 2002 (Blaine Teasley 12, Adrianna Wilson 12, Carissa Roustan 10). Junior Jessica Spigner currently leads the way for the Big Orange with 14 HR’s, while junior Shelby Burchell possesses 13 HR’s and sophomore Kat Dotson has 10 HR’s.

Two Outs Just Means Its Time to Produce Two outs in an inning...that just means its time to do some serious damage if you’re Tennessee. The Lady Vols have registered 137 two-out RBIs this season and are on top of the SEC in two-out batting average at .331 overall.

In a staggering recent display, the Lady Vols posted 17 TWO-OUT RBIS during its three game series sweep at #21/19 LSU and rang up 10 in a sweep of Arkansas.

Off to One of Our Best Starts Ever!

At 44-7 through 51 games, Tennessee currently is tied for the third-best record in program history to this point in a season. The 2007 team was 49-2, the 2006 squad was 45-6 and the 2005 team was 44-7. The common thread between those teams...each of them eventually reached the Women’s College World Series.

The hottest-hitting Lady Vol at the plate recently has been sophomore second baseman Lauren Gibson. The Pasadena, Md., native is hitting .507 OVER HER LAST 26 CONTESTS (38-OF-75) with six doubles, two triples, five HR’s and 29 RBIs and also has hit safely in 22 of those 26 match-ups.

Since being spiked in the left leg at #2 Georgia, a wound that required 10 stitches to close and forced her to begin wearing a protective shin pad, Gibson is hitting .474 with 16 RBIs over her last 14 games. She currently leads the SEC in batting average (counting league games only) at .479 overall.

Most recently Gibson had a banner day at the plate in an 11-0 victory at #21/19 LSU, going

A Nearly Unprecedented RBI Binge for Dotson...

Only two Tennessee Lady Vols in 16 seasons of program history has ever had as many RBIs as sophomore Kat Dotson does at this point in the 2011 season. Call Them National Player of the Year Finalists!

Sophomore outfielders Raven Chavanne and Kat Dotson were included among 25 national finalists for the USA Softball National College Player of the Year award according to an April 13 release from the Amateur Softball Association (ASA). Dotson wasn’t included on the preseason Top 50 Watch List but made her presence felt enough to be selected this time around by hitting .399 with 10 HR’s, 59 RBIs and 21 steals. Chavanne (.473, 59 runs, 78 hits, 29 steals) was included in the preseason listing and was tabbed as a Top 25 national finalist for the second consecutive season (2010, 2011).

Some Personal Milestones Achieved Lady Vol Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have now reached some impressive coaching milestones. Karen Weekly (now has 732 WINS) achieved the 700-win plateau in Cathedral City, Calif., with UT’s 4-1 win over #25 BYU on Feb. 25, while her husband Ralph (now has 1,010 WINS) reached the staggering total of 1,000 CAREER VICTORIES on Sun, April 10, following a 9-0 (5 inn.) rout of Ole Miss. The duo also currently possesses 509 VICTORIES at Tennessee in a 10-year coaching career, reaching the 500 mark with a 7-0 win over Appalachian State on Wed., April 13.

Don’t Try to Run on Ashley!

Junior catcher Ashley Andrews is definitely making a game-changing presence behind the plate for the Lady Vols in 2011. The Tumwater, Wash., native has thrown out 40% of all opposing base runners (10-of-25) that have attempted to steal on UT this year, including eight of the last 18 that have tried. Even the SEC’s leading base stealer Alabama’s Kayla Braud was a victim of one of Andrews’ missiles.

Taking a Look at the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) The most recent NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) has been released for 2011 (5/4) and the Southeastern Conference boasts five teams in the Top 19 (Alabama 1, Georgia 3, Florida 7, Kentucky 19) and seven squads in the Top 31 (LSU 24, Auburn 31). THE LADY VOLS ARE CURRENTLY SITTING AT NO. 12. The RPI is one of the factors utilized by the NCAA in handing out tourney seeds and slots in the annual Field of 64.

Putting An End To Streaks!

Tennessee has had a habit recently of ending some sort of lengthy winning streak by the opposition. By downing #2 Georgia in Athens, Ga., on April 6, UT put a stop to UGA’S 37-GAME HOME SKEIN that dated back to April 2010. During the 2010 NCAA Super Regionals, the Big Orange rolled into Ann Arbor, Mich, and stopped THEN-NO. 2 MICHIGAN’S TWO-YEARLONG, 36-GAME HOME STREAK. Most recently the Lady Vols rolled into Baton Rouge, La., and stopped #21 LSU’S SEASON-HIGH 11-GAME WINNING STREAK.

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL We’re Building Quite a Schedule Résumé When the Weeklys were making out this year’s schedule, they weren’t bashful in testing their young squad with ranked opposition. TENNESSEE HAS ALREADY PLAYED TOP 25 TEAMS IN 16 GAMES THIS YEAR AND POSTED AN 11-5 RECORD IN THOSE MATCHUPS. UT owns wins over No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 UCLA, No. 2 Georgia (two wins), #21 LSU (three wins), #22 Auburn (two wins), #23 Kentucky and #25 BYU. Renfroe Joins Illustrious Company Tennessee freshman pitcher Ellen Renfroe joined some rareified company with her performance in UT’s 2-1 (10 inn.) win over #21 Auburn on April 1. The Jackson, Tenn., native STRUCK OUT 20 TIGER BATTERS while throwing all 10 frames, joining former four-time Lady Vol All-American Monica Abbott as the only pitchers in UT history to reach 20 K’s in a single game. Abbott holds the school record at 22 strikeouts in a 1-0 (10 inn.) win at Florida back on March 10, 2007. She also K’ed 20 in seven frames while topping Liberty back on March 26, 2004, 1-0.

Got Talent on the UT Bench!

Tennessee currently leads the SEC in total pinch hits with 18 this season in 58 at-bats (.310 average) and remarkably four of those 18 hits are HR’s! Sophomore Whitney Hammond currently leads the squad with four pinch hits. Freshmen Melissa Davin and Chelsea O’Connor demonstrated their pinch-hitting prowess as O’Connor blasted a pinch-hit, walk-off HR to down South Carolina 4-2 (8 inn.) in the two teams’ series opener (3/25), while Davin had a clutch, two-out pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to dead-lock the series finale (3/27) against the Gamecocks at 4-4. In fact 10 of Tennessee’s 18 total pinch hits this season have been recorded by freshmen (Davin and Tory Lewis - 3, Ashley Holmes and O’Connor - 2) that were a part of ESPN/RISE’s top-rated recruiting class for 2010.

The Bomb Squad!!!!

The “LADY VOL BOMB SQUAD” is flexing its power this year, having already broken the school single-season record of 52 HR’s set back in 1996 and equaled in 2002 & 2005. The record breaker was a two-run shot by junior Jessica Spigner during an 11-0 win at #21 LSU on April 16.

Tennessee has combined to bash 61 HR’s, including a team-best 14 from junior Spigner, 13 from junior Shelby Burchell (previous single-season high was five in 2009) and 10 by sophomore Kat Dotson (hit just three during her All-American rookie season in 2010). Watch Out For the Lady Vol “Big Inning” The Lady Vols have long made the “Big Inning” a major part of its offensive repetoire. So far in 2011, Tennessee has plated at least three runs in an inning 64 TIMES. In fact, UT has posted at least one three-run outburst in a frame during 38 of its 51 games played this season.

Quick Out of the Gate The Lady Vols waste no time in jumping on their opponents this season. Amazingly, TENNESSEE HAS TALLIED AT LEAST ONE RUN DURING THE FIRST INNING IN 25 OF THEIR 51 CONTESTS IN 2011 AND ARE 23-2 IN THOSE MATCH-UPS. The largest outburst of the season in the initial frame was nine runs in the second meeting with Michigan State. IN FACT, 74 OF THE LADY VOLS’ RUNS HAVE COME IN THE FIRST INNING WHILE 184 OF UT’S 381 TOTAL RUNS (48%) HAVE OCCURRED DURING THE OPENING THREE FRAMES. Who Scores First REALLY Matters A trend is developing in 2011 as the team that scores first during Tennessee softball contests usually ends up putting the “W” in the victory column. THE LADY VOLS ARE 36-2 THIS YEAR WHEN TALLYING THE FIRST RUN ON THE SCOREBOARD AND JUST 8-5 WHEN THEIR OPPONENT SCORES FIRST. The only times Tennessee lost after scoring first was in the marathon 5-4, 10-inning defeat at #23 Kentucky on March 13 and in a 3-2 loss to Mississippi State on April 23.

We’re Making Wins Dramatic!

The Lady Vols have been making some of its recent wins extremely exciting as THREE RECENT TRIUMPHS WERE OF THE WALKOFF VARIETY. It all started against South Carolina on March 25 as freshman Chelsea O’Connor blasted a pinch-hit, two-run HR to end a 4-2 (8 inn.) win over the Gamecocks. Sophomore Raven Chavanne got into the act in the series finale on March 27 against USC, delivering a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to finish a 5-4, comeback win. Most recently, senior Kelly Grieve absolutely crushed a solo shot on the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th as Tennessee out-lasted #21 Auburn, 2-1 (10 inn.) on April 1.

What a Comeback!

Despite trailing 4-0 after the top of the first on March 27, 2011, during its series finale with South Carolina, Tennessee proved a game’s never over until it’s over, rallying for a stirring 5-4 victory by plating a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. S.C.’s Hannah Milks opened the contest with a first-inning grand slam to left, before UT began chipping away at its deficit. Shelby Burchell posted an RBI single in the first, Lauren Gibson crushed a solo HR in the third and Kelly Grieve doubled in a tally during the sixth to cut the gap to 4-3. Jessica Spigner started the seventh with a key lead-off double, but two quick outs threatened to kill off the rally. Ashley Andrews drew a vital walk, freshman pinch hitter Melissa Davin came off the bench to contribute a huge RBI single and then Raven Chavanne capped off the rally with an RBI base knock of her own to set off Big Orange jubilation at Lee Stadium.

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL (Ellen) Renfroe’s On a Roll!

That would be freshman Ellen Renfroe as the 6-0 right hander is 19-2 with a 1.14 ERA and 191 strikeouts over her last 135.0 innings in the circle and posted victories over #25 BYU, Loyola Marymount, #2 UCLA, Evansville, Louisiana-Monroe, Furman, Georgia Southern, Tennessee State, Iowa, #1 Alabama, South Carolina, #21 Auburn (two wins), #2 Georgia, Ole Miss, #21 LSU (two wins), Mississippi State and Arkansas.

SHE PICKED UP SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES ON MARCH 21ST, FOLLOWED THAT UP WITH A MARCH 28TH NOD AS THE SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK AND WAS AGAIN NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK ON APRIL 4 FOR HER THIRD STRAIGHT SEC WEEKLY ACCOLADE. ON APRIL 18 RENFROE WAS CHOSEN SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK, MARKING HER FOURTH LEAGUE HONOR IN 2011.

SHE ALREADY OWNS WINS IN HER ROOKIE CAMPAIGN OVER THE DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (NO. 2 UCLA - FEB. 26, 7-1), A NO. 1 RANKED TEAM (ALABAMA - MARCH 22, 4-1), AND HER SECOND NO. 2 RATED TEAM OF THE YEAR, GEORGIA. RENFROE ALSO DIDN’T ALLOW AN EARNED RUN OVER A STRETCH OF 21.1 INNINGS FROM MARCH 15-MARCH 25.

After striking out a then career-high nine LMU hitters in just four innings of relief in a 7-2 triumph on Feb. 25, the Jackson, Tenn., one-upped herself the very next day by firing a complete-game with a then career-best 10 strikeouts as Tennessee upset the defending national champion Bruins, 7-1.

For her efforts in Cathedral City, Calif., Renfroe was profiled in a Graham Hays article that had top-billing on the front page of the ESPN.com “College Sports” section on March 1.

Renfroe was on the end of an extremely disappointing defeat as she took the loss in UT’s 5-4, 10-inning marathon against #23 Kentucky, despite tallying a then career-best of 13 strikeouts over a career-high 7.1 innings in the circle. On March 18, she was nearly perfect in UT’s 2-0 win over Iowa, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning before settling for a two-hit, complete-game shutout with a career-high 15 strikeouts. In a highprofile meeting against #1 Alabama on March 22, Renfroe fired a complete-game, two-hitter and allowed one unearned run with seven K’s in a 4-1 victory over the Crimson Tide.

Dotson Keeps Hitting and Hitting and...

Sophomore right fielder Kat Dotson recently went on a UT season-long 13-GAME HITTING STREAK (March 3-22) during which she hit .537 overall (22-of-41) with seven HR’s and 30 RBIs. Kristi Durant set the school record for hitting streak with a 20-game skein back in 2003.

Dotson now owns 10 HR’s and 59 RBIs overall this season in 51 contests.

SHE LED ALL OF NCAA DIVISION I IN RBIS-PER-GAME AT 1.85 in the initial NCAA Division I statistical release (3/22). The Savannah, Ga., native is just 18 RBIs from equaling the UT single-season RBI record of 77 currently shared by former Lady Vols Kristi Durant (2005) and Bridget Jackson (1996). Sophomore Kat Dotson did something on March 15 during a 16-2 (6 inn.) win over Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn., that no Lady Vol and few in NCAA softball history had ever accomplished, by registering a staggering NINE RBIS IN A SINGLE GAME. The Savannah, Ga., native broke a 15-year old Big Orange record set on April 2, 1996, during a win over Wingate by former Lady Vol Carrie Swinford. That occurred the season before the Southeastern Conference even began sponsoring softball. DOTSON’S EFFORT TIED FOR THE SIXTH-BEST SINGLEGAME RBI PERFORMANCE IN ALL OF NCAA DIVISION I SOFTBALL HISTORY. Dotson also had a stretch of FOUR CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH A HR (March 5-11 -- Furman, Georgia Southern-twice and #23 Kentucky). tying her for SECOND IN NCAA DIVISION I SOFTBALL HISTORY FOR THE LONGEST SUCH STREAK. Included in that total are 41 hits, 10 walks, four hit by pitches and twice reaching via an error.

Accepting a Major Invite!!!

Tennessee sophomores Raven Chavanne and Kat Dotson have officially accepted invitations to the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team tryout camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., over June 12-17. The approximately 17 athletes selected to represent USA Softball will compete in over seven different events in four different countries, including the World Cup of Softball VI and the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico (Oct. 17-23).

Chavanne played in the summer of 2010 for the U.S. Women’s Futures National Team that finished second at the World Cup of Softball 5. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native hit .389 overall with three runs scored, two steals and an RBI for Team USA. Chavanne was at her best in the event with a 3-for-3 effort while registering the eventual game-winning run during a 2-1 upset of defending Olympic gold medalist Japan.

Freshman Madison Shipman is also currently involved with USA Softball as a member of the U.S. Junior Women’s National Team.

Road Warriors!

The Lady Vols should change their team name to “The Road Warriors” considering what they’ve already been through this season. Since leaving on Feb. 11th to open the season in the Stetson Leadoff Classic in DeLand, Fla., through the end of a road trip to battle Kentucky and Tennessee State, THE BIG ORANGE WERE ON THE ROAD FOR 20 OF THE FIRST 33 DAYS OF THE 2011 SEASON. During that time UT played 25 games over those 33 days, 26 contests if you count its exhibition victory over the Dutch National Team. With a recent trip to #2 Georgia and Ole Miss, UT has now gone on a pair of six-day road trips and an 11-day road jaunt during the 2011 campaign.

Almost Cycling It Up...

With Tennessee baseball’s Matt Duffy becoming just the second Vol ever to hit for the cycle during a win over New Orleans on March 9, it made me remember how very close the Lady Vol softball team has come during the 2011 season to registering the second known cycle in program history.

A brief history lesson shows us that former UT All-American Tonya Callahan managed the only known cycle (single, double, triple and HR in the same game) in the annals of Big Orange softball during a 6-1 win over Hofstra on Feb. 16, 2008, at the USF Best Western Tournament in Tampa, Fla. Tennessee has already had a player flirt with the rarified cycle on FOUR OCCASIONS in 2011. Senior center fielder Kelly Grieve went 3-for-3 with a single, a triple and a HR before walking in her final at-bat to end up just a double short of the cycle against Cal Poly on Feb. 18 in Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomore right fielder Kat Dotson has amazingly almost turned the cycle trick twice this year. The Savannah, Ga., native doubled, singled, fouled out to third and tripled as part of a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort against San Diego State in Cathedral City, Calif., on Feb. 24. She singled, homered, singled and tripled on March 5 as part of a 4-for-4, three RBI performance during a victory over Furman at the Tennessee Classic. Most recently freshman Melissa Davin came with a HR of the cycle by going 3-for-4 with a single, double and a triple in UT’s 9-4 victory at #2 Georgia on April 6.

Dominance Thy Name is “Dottie” Kat Dotson, a.k.a. “Dottie,” is making her All-American freshman campaign of 2010 look tame in comparison to what she’s doing thus far in 2011.

The Savannah, Ga., native is currently third on the Lady Vol squad in average (.399), leads in RBIs (59), is second in slugging (.703) and third in on-base percentage (.494) and also owns 10 HR’s over her first 51 games to more than TRIPLE THE HR OUTPUT FROM HER ENTIRE ROOKIE SEASON. Her 59 RBIs are also 22 more than the 37 RBIs she registered during her initial season.

As a result of her efforts over five contests from March 3-6 (vs. Evansville and at the Tennessee Classic), during which she hit .667 (10-of-15) with a double, triple, three HR’s and 13 RBIs, DOTSON PICKED UP A MARCH 7TH NOD AS THE SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK. The award marked the second for a Lady Vol over the first four weeks of the 2011 season (Chavanne on Feb. 14) as well as the second SEC Player of the Week honor for Dotson during her collegiate career (previous was on March 29, 2010).

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL Burchell’s Blowing Up! After showing potential during her first two years at Rocky Top, junior first baseman Shelby Burchell has truly emerged as an offensive weapon for the Big Orange early on in this 2011 campaign. The Columbia, Tenn., native entered the season as a career .259 hitter with nine HR’s and 48 RBIs. SHE IS CURRENTLY HITTING AT A .343 CLIP (48-OF-140) WITH 13 HRS AND 51 RBIS THROUGH THE FIRST 51 GAMES OF 2011. Burchell has already surpassed her single-season career-high for HRs (five in 2009) and hits (25).

The Grand Salami!

After registering five grand slams during the 2010 season, the Tennessee Lady Vols are off to a powerful start with SEVEN GRAND SLAMS THUS FAR IN 2011. Juniors Jessica Spigner and Shelby Burchell each blasted their second career “grand salamis” in wins over Boise State (2/18) and Cal Poly (2/18) on the same day, respectively. Senior Kelly Grieve registered her first career grand slam during an 18-0 (5 inn.) win over ETSU on Feb. 15. Sophomore Kat Dotson got her first career grand slam as part of a record setting nine RBI effort in UT’s 16-2 (6 inn.) rout of Tennessee State on March 15. Madison Shipman and Lauren Gibson each managed their first career grand slams on April 15 and 16, respectively, during UT’s sweep at #21 LSU. Spigner got back in the act against Arkansas on April 30, registering the third grand slam of her career in a 8-0 (5 inn.) win over the ‘Hogs.

An Unprecedented Streak...

Unprecedented not for wins, that occurred back in 2006 when UT won its first 24 games of the season, but for CONSECUTIVE RUN-RULE VICTORIES. By run-ruling its FIRST SEVEN OPPONENTS of 2011, Tennessee surpassed its longest such streak (at any time) of five straight run-rule triumphs established during both the 2005 & 2006 campaigns.

Tennessee is now averaging 7.47 runs per contest this year, has outscored its foes by a 381-96 total and now has 20 RUN-RULE VICTORIES. Great Against Teams In-State!

Tennessee kicked off its 2011 schedule against in-state schools on Tuesday, Feb. 15, versus ETSU in Knoxville, posting an 18-0 (5 inn.) victory.

Tennessee State went down in six innings on March 15, via a 16-2 count.

The Lady Vols have made a habit of dominating its series’ with in-state schools since starting the UT program in 1996. All-time, the Orange & White is now an incredible 97-3 overall against a combination of 10 Tennessee schools. Co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have gone 63-0 against in-state programs since arriving at Rocky Top. UT HAS ALSO WON 69 STRAIGHT GAMES AGAINST IN-STATE OPPONENTS SINCE SUFFERING ITS LAST DEFEAT BACK ON MARCH 22, 2000, AGAINST MTSU. In fact, two of Tennessee’s three all-time in-state losses came against Chattanooga when coached by...Karen Weekly in 1999.

The Lady Vols are 17-0 against Austin Peay, 16-0 against Tennessee Tech and 14-0 versus Belmont, 16-1 versus Middle Tennessee, 14-0 in games with ETSU. UT is also 9-0 versus Tennessee State, 6-0 against Lipscomb, 3-2 against Chattanooga and 1-0 versus Memphis and UT-Martin.

A Disappointing League Start for UT The Big Orange dropped to 9-6 all-time in Southeastern Conference openers after dropping a 9-6 decision at #23 Kentucky on March 11. UT held a 5-4 lead into the sixth inning of the lidlifter before watching the Wildcats rally for the victory. After recovering on Saturday to rout the ‘Cats 10-0, the Big Orange lost a 5-4, 10-inning heartbreaker to UK to drop the initial league series of the season two games to one. Tennessee was within one strike of a 4-1 triumph in the finale before allowing a game-tying, three-run HR to Kentucky catcher Megan Yocke.

Tennessee Classic History Since getting back in the business of hosting tournaments with the opening of the Lee Softball Stadium prior to the 2008 season, the Lady Vols have registered a perfect 20-0 mark (16-0 combined in the 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011 Tennessee Classics and 4-0 at the 2010 Tennessee Inviational).

Since the Weeklys arrival to start the 2002 campaign, UT is 30-0 in its home-hosted, regular-season tourneys. Over the entire 16-year program history, the Big Orange maintains a 81-13 overall mark in regular-season tournaments in Knoxville.

A Touch of CLASS! Lady Vol senior outfielder Kelly Grieve was chosen as one of 27 NCAA Division I softball candidates for the fifth-annual Lowe’s Senior CLASS award. The honor is presented to a senior softball player who best demonstrates her ability on the field, in the community and in the classroom.

The Asheville, N.C., native currently owns a 3.24 grade-point average in animal science/pre-veterinary medicine in hopes of applying to Vet School after graduation and was honored in 2010 as a first team ESPN Academic All-District IV selection.

On the Road Again...

Maybe Willie Nelson’s famous song should have been Tennessee softball’s new theme as the Lady Vols went on a marathon 11-game/11-day road trip through Las Vegas, Nev., for the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic and Cathedral City, Calif., for the prestigious Cathedral City Classic over Feb. 18-27. UT COMPLETED ITS TRIP WITH A 9-2 RECORD. Last February, the Big Orange went on a 10-day jaunt through Las Cruces, N.M., and Cathedral City, Calif., recording a 7-2 overall mark combined at the Troy Cox Classic (5-0 and won the championship) and the Cathedral City Classic (2-2) Prior to the 2010 excursion, Tennessee also went on a 10-day trip, stretching from Feb. 15-24, 2007. The Orange & White should remember that fondly, having swept through the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., a side visit for a single contest against Cal State Fullerton and the Palm Springs Classic with a perfect 11-0 record.

Dominant in February & March Since Weeklys Arrival Since the Weeklys arrived in 2002 to take over the Tennessee program, the team has seen incredible success during the opening month of the season. IN FEBRUARY, THE BIG ORANGE BOAST A RECORD OF 143-26-1 SINCE STARTING 2002 AND ARE A STAGGERING 96-10 SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2005. Tennessee won 33 straight February contests during a streak that stretched from the opening of the 2006 campaign through part of 2008 until a 4-1 loss to USF on Feb. 17, 2008. The only February defeats since ‘05 are to No. 1 California (2005), Notre Dame (2005), USF (2008), No. 21 and eventual ‘09 national champ Washington (2009), No. 6 and eventual ‘10 national champ UCLA (2010), UCF (2010), Pacific (2010), No. 10 Stanford (2010 & 2011) and UNLV (2011).

Didn’t Take Long for the SEC to Notice the Big Orange!

Well that didn’t take long as the Southeastern Conference awarded its initial SEC Player of the Week award (2/14) to a member of the Big Orange. Sophomore outfielder Raven Chavanne got a great “Valentine’s Day” present from the league office by reaping the third SEC weekly honor of her career after hitting .692 with a team-best two HR’s and 10 RBIs at the Stetson Lead-off Classic.

She had picked up previous nods as the SEC Player of the Week and the SEC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 22 and March 1, 2010, respectively.

Chavanne Went On Another Impressive Streak!

Sophomore outfielder Raven Chavanne managed a streak of 10 CONSECUTIVE PLATE APPEARANCES REACHING SAFELY VIA HIT OR WALK (11 if you count her reaching via a Stetson error during a Feb. 12 match-up) over a four-contest stretch (Stetson, Boston College, Michigan State, ETSU).

In fact, out of first 18 total plate appearances in 2011, Chavanne failed to reach base in some manner just three times.

Perhaps the most amazing part of her total effort is that seven of those plate appearances (a perfect 6-for-6 hitting and a walk) occurred during games against Boston College and Michigan State on Sun., Feb. 13, a day SHE WAS SUFFERING THE EFFECTS OF FOOD POISONING. This isn’t the first time the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native has been involved in a big streak of some kind. The most impressive to date occurred during her rookie season as Chavanne reached over 22 straight plate appearances by hit, walk, error or fielder’s choice and also had a skein of eight straight base hits.

A Powerful Statement in Florida...

During its four-game tournament title run at the Stetson Leadoff Classic in DeLand, Fla., the Lady Vols made quite a statement by outscoring its opponents by a 44-2 margin with four consecutive run-rules, hitting .475 as a team, posting five doubles, seven home runs, swiping 13 bases and registering double-digit run totals in each contest.

Individually, Raven Chavanne hit .692 overall (9-for-13) while leading the Tennessee team in every major offensive category at the Stetson Leadoff Classic, including those for runs (nine), hits (nine), doubles (two) home runs (two), RBIs (10), stolen bases (four), slugging percentage (1.308) and on-base percentage (.733). Despite suffering from the effects of food poisoning on Sunday during UT’s games against Boston College (3-for-3, HR, two RBIs) and Michigan State (3-for-3, 2B, 2 RBIs), the 5-8 sophomore outfielder managed to go a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate combined with five tallies, a double, a HR and four RBIs. She reached base safely 13 of the 15 times she stepped into the batter’s box (by hit, walk or error), was on base following each of her last 10 plate appearances and takes a streak of nine consecutive plate appearances reaching safely via hit or walk into the Big Orange’s Tuesday home-opening match-up against ETSU. Junior first baseman/catcher Shelby Burchell led the team with a .700 batting average (7-for-10) to go along with a HR and four RBIs, sophomore right fielder Kat Dotson hit .636 (7-for-11) with a HR and nine RBIs and sophomore second baseman Lauren Gibson posted a .545 average (6-for-11) with a HR and nine RBIs. During her opening weekend Lady Vol freshman shortstop Madison Shipman blasted her first collegiate homer while posting a .500 mark (5-for-10) at the plate, a double and four runs batted in. Rookie pitcher Ellen Renfroe led the way from the circle by going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 K’s in 10 IP while tossing complete game shutouts in her first two collegiate starts. Junior Cat Hosfield (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 K’s in 5.0 IP) and sophomore Ivy Renfroe (1-0, 2.80 ERA, 4 K’s in 5.0 IP) also picked up complete-game wins.

We Went to Yet Another Familiar Playing Site!

Tennessee took its sixth all-time trip to the prestigious Cathedral City Classic (formerly known as the Palm Springs Classic) in Cathedral City, Calif., over Feb. 24-26. UT had visited the event previously in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, while also participating in the Cathedral City Kickoff (different tournament) in 2008.

The Orange & White maintain a 22-5 all-time record at the Cathedral City Classic and are 27-5 overall at the Big League Dreams Sports Park (site of event) if you include the ‘08 C.C. Kick-off. Tennessee was a perfect 5-0 this season with wins over UCSB, San Diego State, #25 BYU, Loyola Marymount and #2 UCLA. Home Openers = Victory Throughout Lady Vol softball history, the first contest of the year in the friendly confines of either Tyson Park or Lee Softball Stadium has usually equaled victory for the Orange & White. Tennessee has won its last 11 home openers dating back to a 6-5 home-opening loss to Kansas on March 10, 2000, and holds a 15-1 mark all-time in Knoxville lidlifters. Under the guidance of co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly, UT is a perfect 10-0 in such match-ups after crushing ETSU, 18-0 (5 inn.), on Feb. 15, 2011, at Lee Softball Stadium.

Extra Softball is Often No Trouble for the Lady Vols Tennessee now owns an 10-2 mark over its last 12 extra-inning contests since the start of the ‘09 season. The lone defeats in extra frames over the last three years occurred on March 21, 2010, when UT dropped a hard-fought, 7-6, contest to #6 Georgia in eight innings, and on March 13, 2011, in Lexington, Ky., when the Big Orange suffered a heart-breaking, 5-4 loss in 10 innings to #23 Kentucky.

We Got Win Number 700!

Now in its 16th year, Tennessee entered the 2011 season with an all-time record of 698-313-2. On opening day (Feb. 12) at the Stetson Leadoff Classic in DeLand, Fla., UT blasted Michigan State (11-2, 5 inn.) and Stetson (11-0, 5 inn.) to pick up all-time wins number 699 and 700.

Achieving the feat made the Big Orange the fourth program in SEC history to reach the milestone. Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have guided UT to over 500 wins over their nine+ years at the helm, an average of almost 52 wins a season.

Opened the Season with a “W” Tennessee is 9-7 all-time in season openers and 7-3 under co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly after blasting Michigan State 11-2 (5 inn.) to christen its 2011 campaign on Feb. 12 at the Stetson Leadoff Classic in DeLand, Fla. UT has now won seven of its last eight season openers with the lone loss occurring on Feb. 12, 2010, to eventual national champion #8 UCLA at the NTC Division I Elite Invitational.

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL Tennessee the Early Pick in Loaded SEC Eastern Division The No. 4-ranked Tennessee Lady Vol softball team was picked at the top of the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern Division according to the 2011 preseason poll of the league’s 11 softball coaching staffs. UT also garnered three votes as the choice to win the league’s regular season crown.

With 17 accumulated points the Big Orange led No. 3 Georgia (18 pts.) by a single point and defending SEC East titlist No. 5 Florida (22 pts.) by five tallies. Kentucky (37 pts.) and South Carolina (46 pts.) rounded out the five programs in the division. Amazingly, the SEC East enters the 2011 campaign boasting three of the top five teams in the country per the preseason USA Today/NFCA rankings.

The defending SEC regular season and tournament champion Alabama Crimson Tide (10 pts.) was selected to repeat both its division title and SEC overall crown. The gap between the sixth-ranked Tide and No. 19 LSU was nine points, while Auburn rated third with 33 tallies. Arkansas (fourth/36 pts.), Mississippi State (fifth/39 points) and Ole Miss (sixth/51 pts.) completed the West standings.

According to an announcement by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) at its 2010 convention in San Diego, Calif., Tennessee Lady Vol Co-Head Softball Coach Ralph Weekly has been chosen as one of two inductees for the NFCA Hall of Fame Class of 2011. Weekly will join Ithaca Head Coach Deb Pallozzi in ceremonies to be held late next year at the annual NFCA Convention slated for Las Vegas, Nev. In a 24-year career that has spanned portions of three decades and included over 1,000 victories, Weekly has been successful at every stop along the way. He guided Pacific Lutheran to a pair of NAIA national championships (1988 & 1992) during a nine-year stint in Tacoma, Wash., and helped build UT-Chattanooga into a Southern Conference force alongside his wife and co-head coach Karen Weekly from 1995-2001, winning four regular season and SoCon Tournament titles.

Since arriving at Rocky Top prior to the 2002 campaign, the Weeklys’ have built the Lady Vol softball program into a national powerhouse. Under the duo’s guidance, Tennessee had won 465 games (entering 2011) while registering four top-three finishes at the Women’s College World Series during the last six years (2005, 2006, 2007, 2010) and winning both the 2006 Southeastern Conference Tournament and 2007 SEC regular season championships. Along the way UT became the first league school to reach No. 1 in the national rankings, staying in the lofty position for a thenrecord 11 consecutive weeks back in 2007, and the first SEC squad to qualify for the best-of-three WCWS Championship Series (2007). During the Weeklys’ nine-season stay in Knoxville, Tennessee has reaped 18 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American selections, 30 NFCA All-Region nods, more than 30 combined All-SEC or SEC All-Freshman choices and an impressive 11 ESPN Academic All-Americans.

Tennessee Led the Nation With Three Players on USA Softball “Watch List” The 2011 Tennessee Lady Vol softball team managed a nation-leading three inclusions on the “Top 50 Watch List” for the 10th-annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award as UT sophomore outfielder Raven Chavanne, senior outfielder Kelly Grieve and sophomore pitcher Ivy Renfroe were each tabbed to the prestigious list according to a release by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).

California, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, Washington, Florida, Alabama, Hawai’i, Missouri, Michigan and Oklahoma followed UT by each boasting a pair of selections.

Tennessee softball has now had at least one player included on the organization’s preseason “Watch List” for eight consecutive seasons (20042011), including former Lady Vol All-Americans such as Monica Abbott, Kristi Durant, Sarah Fekete, Lindsay Schutzler, Tonya Callahan and Tiffany Huff. This marks the fifth time in the last six years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011) that the Lady Vols have had at least two players chosen to the national watch list. UT had a program-high four individuals (Abbott, Durant, Fekete, Schutzler) included on the 2006 “Watch List” and three (Abbott, Callahan, Schutzler) incorporated as part of the 2007 version.

Preseason All-SEC Accolades for Renfroe, Chavanne The Tennessee Lady Vols boasted a pair of selections to the 13-member 2011 Preseason All-SEC Team as sophomore outfielder Raven Chavanne and sophomore pitcher Ivy Renfroe were tabbed to the listing through a vote by the league’s softball coaching staffs.

On her way to 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American, NFCA All-Southeast Region, All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman honors as well as being named a Top 25 Finalist for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year trophy, Chavanne hit a team-leading .455 overall with a squad-best 95 hits, 64 runs scored, five doubles, five triples, three home runs and 26 RBIs while swiping a UT-best 37 stolen bases and posting a .511 on-base percentage in her initial campaign at Rocky Top. Renfroe registered a sterling 31-6 mark from the circle with a 2.41 ERA and 235 strikeouts in 232.1 innings of work to go along with 15 complete games and six solo shutouts during her freshman season. For her efforts she earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Southeast Region, All-SEC, SEC All-Freshman, All-SEC Tournament and All-Women’s College World Series accolades. Just one year removed from signing the nation’s top-rated collegiate softball recruiting class, Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have followed up on that success by pulling in what ESPN RISE HAS DEEMED THE NO. 2 CONTINGENT IN THE COUNTRY FOR 2011.

Composed of a trio of student-athletes, including pitcher/infielders Cheyanne Tarango and Haley Fagan as well as catcher/infielder Hannah Akamine, the Lady Vols ranked second out of a stellar group that included five Pacific 10 schools, three Southeastern Conference programs and single members of both the Big 10 and Big 12.

A native of Escondido, Calif., Hannah Akamine is the third of a trio of sisters to play collegiate softball, joining her siblings former Arizona pitcher Sarah Akamine and current Penn State pitcher/utility player Lisa Akamine. Having played at catcher, shortstop and in the outfield during her interscholastic career, she has recorded stat totals of .306 with seven RBIs as a freshman and .389 with five HR’s and 20 RBI during her sophomore campaign at Escondido H.S. She was injured during her junior season in 2010. For her stellar efforts during the ‘09 season, Akamine was chosen by the San Diego Hall of Champions to its 2009 Breitbard Athletic Association All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section Second Team. Having played 16-U and 18-U Gold ball for the San Diego Legacy, Akamine helped guide her squad to a pair of Amateur Softball Association

2011 TENNESSEE LADY VOL SOFTBALL (ASA) Nationals appearances (2008, 2009) with a ninth-place finish in 2009. She chose to come to Tennessee from among a list of schools that included Hawai’i, Penn State and Alabama, claiming that being a Lady Vol has been her dream since she was eight years old.

An in-state product out of Cornersville, Tenn., Haley Fagan has been a two-sport standout in both softball and basketball at Cornersville H.S. The 6-0 right handed pitcher/first baseman helped lead her high school program to back-to-back third-place finishes at both the 2008 and 2009 Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Class A State Girls’ Softball Tournaments as well as consecutive TSSAA Sectional and Region 6-A titles (2008 & 2009) and three straight District 11-A championships (2008, 2009, 2010). Fagan, who owns 29 career pitching wins and an earned run average of 1.25, picked up numerous honors following her junior campaign in 2010, including selections to the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association All-Mid State First Team and nods as both TSSAA All-District 11-A and as the District 11-A Most Valuable Player. As a member of Tennessee Fury Gold, Fagan participated in both the ASA Gold and ESPN/RISE Premier High School Division National Tournaments in 2010. Previously in Gold action, she helped Team Worth to the 2009 ASA 16-U National Tournament and to a national championship victory at the 2009 American Fastpitch Association Nationals. On the hardwood, she has been equally honored, being chosen as 2009 & 2010 TSSAA AllDistrict 11-A and All-Region 6-A while helping Cornersville to consecutive District 11-A basketball crowns in 2009 and 2010. She helped her squad to the 2009 TSSAA Region 6-A and Sectional titles on the way to Murfreesboro, Tenn., and the initial Tennessee State Class A Girls’ Basketball Tournament appearance in her school’s history.

A highly decorated player out Anaheim Hills, Calif., Cheyanne Tarango ventures to Tennessee with an impressive list of accolades in tow.

Most recently, she joined current Lady Vol freshman Madison Shipman as a member of the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that posted a perfect 9-0 mark on the way to a gold medal finish at the III Pan American Championship in Bogota, Colombia, over Aug. 6-15, 2010. During the U.S. squad’s dominant run, Tarango scored a pair of runs, knocked in three RBIs and recorded the win from the circle by firing three innings of three-hit pitching work with a trio of K’s as the Red, White & Blue drilled Mexico, 15-3 (6 inn.), in pool play. A 2010 ESPN/RISE Third Team AllAmerican, 2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) High School First Team All-West Region selection and one of the 2010 “Top Five Softball Players in Orange County,” at Canyon H.S., Tarango has also been tabbed as All-State, All-CIF, All-Orange County and All-Century League following all three years of her high school career (2008, 2009, 2010). As a junior in 2010, Tarango hit .413 at the dish with five HR’s and 17 RBIs while posting a 20-7-1 mark from the circle with a 0.70 ERA and 219 K’s. She hit .366 with seven HR’s and 22 RBIs as a sophomore in 2009 with a 24-8 pitching mark, a 1.08 ERA and 234 strikeouts. During her rookie season at Canyon, Tarango went 22-8 from the circle with a 1.57 ERA and 290 K’s while tallying a .357 average with four big flies and 21 RBIs. She was honored as the Century League Most Valuable Player (one of two such selections in her career – 2009 & 2010) in helping lead her high school squad to the 2009 league title. In her most recent Gold action, playing the last two summers with the Worth Firecrackers, Tarango was a part of back-to-back Fireworks Colorado 18-U Gold & Canada Cup 18-U Gold titlists while helping her squad to a third-place finish at the 2009 ASA Gold Nationals. She picked Tennessee from a list of schools that included California, UCLA and Notre Dame.

Through the Years for UT The Lady Vols are in their 16th season of softball. The first six seasons were under the direction of Jim Beitia, while Feb. 12th began the 10th year of the tenure of Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly.

Charting the No-Hitters...UT Now Has 35 No-No’s with Eight Perfect Games The Lady Vol program owns a staggering 35 no-hitters in program history and eight perfect games. The majority belong to former four-time All-American and Olympian Monica Abbott. The most recent no-hitter came on April 22, 2011, as then-sophomore Ivy Renfroe picked up her second career no-no with a two-walk, five-strikeout blanking of Mississippi State in UT’s 8-0 (6 inn.) rout. Current junior Cat Hosfield and former Lady Vol Ashton Ward added their name to the list, at least with a combined no-no, during UT’s 2009 stay at the BYU Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah by working together to no-hit San Jose State. A 2010 SEC All-Tournament selection, an ESPN Academic All District IV choice and an inclusion to the Top 50 Watch List for the annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award, Grieve posted 26 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games in 2010…Recorded an eight-game hitting streak from April 14-May 1 during which she hit .414 overall (12-for-29) in a stretch against Arkansas, Presbyterian, #4 Florida and at #4 Alabama…Set the tone during the NCAA Super Regional opener at No. 2 Michigan by going 2-for-3 with three, two-out RBIs in UT’s 5-0 rout…Hit .333 with three runs scored during UT’s four contests at the WCWS…Stole 26 bases in 32 attempts during the season and tallied 12 doubles with three triples, three HR’s and 30 RBIs.

On her way to Louisville Slugger/ NFCA All-American, All-Southeast Region and All-SEC honors in 2010 as well as a Top 25 Finalist for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year trophy, Chavanne hit a team-leading .455 overall with a squad-best 95 hits, 64 runs scored, five doubles, five triples, three home runs and 26 RBIs while swiping a UT-best 37 stolen bases…Raven was among the NCAA batting average leaders all season long, finishing at No. 7 in the country…She guided the Lady Vol squad in multi-hit games with 29, including a quartet of four-hit efforts…

She even posted strings of eight consecutive hits, reached over 22 straight plate appearances by hit, walk, error or fielder’s choice and posted a UT-best 11-game hitting skein.

Garnered 2010 Louisville Slugger/ NFCA All-American, All-Southeast Region and All-Southeastern Conference honors and was also named SEC Co-Freshman of the Year…Dotson posted a .391 batting average with 19 multihit and 10 multi-RBI games…Scored 54 runs, tallied five doubles, three triples, three HR’s and 37 RBIs while swiping 29 bases…Registered a career-high four hits on March 23rd versus Kentucky with a double and three RBIs…Blasted a gamewinning, two-run HR at Auburn in the sixth inning to guide Tennessee past AU, 2-1…Was named USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week and SEC Player of the Week on March 30th after hitting .769 (10-for-13) against Kentucky and Ole Miss with six RBIs and a string of seven consecutive hits.
