TENNESSEE IN SEASON OPENERS

The Orange and White’s last loss in a season opener was on Aug. 25, 2006, when it fell to Maryland, 1-0, in the Penn State Invitational. Current UT head coach Brian Pensky was the head coach of the that Maryland team in 2006.

scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute off an assist from Rhian Wilkinson. On Aug. 21, 2011, Tennessee took a 3-1 win in Norman, Okla. Kylie Bono scored the first goal off a PK in the 23rd minute. Caroline Brown snapped a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute with a score off an assist from Chelsea Hatcher. Brown added one more score off a deflection in the 66th minute.

RETURNING A LOT

The 2013 Tennessee soccer team returns a large portion of the 2012 squad that went 14-5-3 and earned the program’s 10th NCAA Tournament berth. UT brings back leading scorer and NSCAA AllAmerican forward Hannah Wilkinson up top (eight goals in 2012) and assist leader Caroline Brown (seven in 2012). Most of the team’s formidable back line is also back for 2013. Defenders Allie Sirna, Brittney Wade and Caroline Capocaccia and goalkeeper Julie Eckel helped Tennessee set a new program record for consecutive shutout minutes (533:22) from Aug. 19- Sept. 9.

IMPACT TRANSFERS

In 2012, Tennessee got a major boost from transfers CC Cobb and Katie Lenz. Cobb joined UT from Florida State and Lenz came to Knoxville by way of West Virginia. Cobb and Lenz combined for two goals and 10 assists and served both as sparks off the bench and dependable starters throughout the season. For 2013, UT has another pair of big-impact transfers in Cheyenne Spade (NC State) and Megan Erskine (San Diego State/Ventura College). Look out for them!
