BIG ORANGE ROLLS SENIOR NIGHT FOR THE AGES
No. 19 Tennessee is coming off an exciting 3-2 win over Georgia on Thursday’s Senior Night. All five UT seniors played major roles in the win. Alexis Owens and Kylie Bono teamed up on a pair of goals, including the match-winner in the 84th minute. With the match knotted at 2-2-, fellow senior Amy Harrison found Bono with a great ball in from midfield and Bono sent a tight-rope cross down the back line to connect with Owens crashing through the box. In the first half, Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute after Bono played the ball forward to Owens and Owens sent a low cross down the back line for sophomore Hannah Wilkinson. RB Wyatt received the first start of her career in goal and played the first 45 minutes as the Lady Vols took a 1-1 into the break. Ali Hall once again anchored the UT defense, limiting the Bulldogs to just seven shots and three corner kicks.
ALL-SEC DUO
Tennessee sophomore forward Hannah Wilkinson and senior defender Ali Hall have been tabbed for 2012 Southeastern Conference women’s soccer awards, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Wilkinson received first team All-SEC honors in her debut season with Tennessee and Hall garnered second team All-SEC accolades. Wilkinson and Hall become the 22nd and 23rd Lady Vols to receive All-SEC recognition (first or second team) in program history. Wilkinson is also the 14th UT player to be named first team All-SEC. Tennessee has 39 all-time first or second team All-SEC selections.
STARTING BENEFITS
Junior midfielder CC Cobb has been a vital part to Tennessee’s success this year. In addition to being one of the best set-piece players on the team and one of the main corner-kick takers, Cobb’s intensity and motor in the midfield while playing through injuries has been unmatched. Cobb has started the last eight matches she has played in and UT is 7-1 in that stretch. When Cobb is in the starting lineup, UT has posted five shutouts and outscored its opponents, 15-4.
ELITE ECKEL
Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Eckel has allowed just 12 goals in 20 games this season. She has a 0.62 GAA, which ranks second in the SEC and 20th in the nation. The UT single-season record for GAA is 0.68 set by Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart back in 2004.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?
Junior Caroline Brown has a team-high seven assists to go with four goals for 15 points. When Brown scores or has an assist, Tennessee is 6-0. The Lady Vols have outscored their opponents, 17-5, in that stretch.
SHUTOUTS KEEP PILING UP
UT has posted 10 shutouts this season, going 9-0-1 in those matches. The school record is 12 set back in 2003. Tennessee boasts one of the top defenses in the nation. The team’s 0.626 goals-against average ranks 17th in the country.
