¢ Samford went 11-6-2 in 2012 and finished second in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs return seven starters and 16 letterwinners from a year ago. ¢ In 2012, Samford averaged 1.60 goals and 1.25 goals given up per match. The team returns points leader and co-leading scorer Trine Taule.Taule (five goals, four assists) is a senior midfielder. Also back are co-scoring leaders Brittany Hoffman and Michelle Moll. ¢ One of Samford’s strengths last season was the team’s variety of scorers. In 2012, seven different Bulldogs scored three goals. The team’s biggest loss was assist leader Adrianne Mancino. ¢ Samford returned its leading goalkeeper in current junior Melissa Montgomer (1.04 GAA, 45 saves, 9-3-2) but started freshman Katie Peters on Friday in the loss to Memphis. Peters played the full 90 minutes, making three saves and giving up two goals

NOTEWORTHY NOTES UT 4, Samford 0 (Aug. 17, 2012)
Sunday’s match will mark the second all-time meeting between the teams. UT defeated Samford, 4-0, in its 2012 season opener at Regal Soccer Stadium. Caroline Brown scored he first goal in the 16th minute, dribbling up the middle of the Samford defense. Brown assisted on the next two goals, which were scored by Amy Harrison early in he second half. In the 67th minute Kylie Bono added a fourth goal off an assist from Katie Lenz. UT is 15-0 all-time against teams from the Southern Conference
BROWN MOVES UP in RECORD BOOKS
With a goal 23 seconds before halftime vs. OU, Brown recorded the 12th match-winner of her career, moving her into sole possession of second-place on UT’s all-time list. She trails only Kylee Rossi (15, 200508). That goal was also Brown’s 20th career score, making her the 14th Tennessee player to reach that mark. The last Volunteer to score 20 goals in a career was Emily Dowd (22, 2008-11)
SEASON OPENER STREAK CONTINUES
The win over Oklahoma on Friday marked Tennessee’s seventh consecutive season-opening victory.
NEWCOMERS MAKE AN IMPACT
Seven Tennessee newcomers made their debuts in the Orange and White on Friday. Junior transfers Cheyenne Spade and Megan Erskine and freshman
Michele Christy all started the game. Spade scored the third goal in the second half. Erskine played the full 90 minutes on the back line.
ROOKIES ROCK!
Five rookies saw action. Christy led the freshman with 78 minutes played. Emily Morrow had an assist on Caroline Brown’s match-winner just before halftime and tallied 38 minutes. Amy Neal (17 minutes), Jamilah Tejan (12 minutes) and Cali Hutson (11 minutes) also saw significant time off the bench.
TENNESSEE IN ROAD OPENERS
Tennessee is 3-1-1 in its last five road openers. UT won its 2012 road opener at Western Kentucky, 4-1, and defeated OU 3-1 in its 2011 road opener. The Big Orange’s last road-opening loss was 7-2 setback at No. 1 North Carolina in 2010.
RETURNING A LOT
The 2013 Tennessee soccer team returns a large portion of the 2012 squad that went 14-5-3 and earned the program’s 10th NCAA Tournament berth. UT brings back leading scorer and NSCAA AllAmerican forward Hannah Wilkinson up top (eight goals in 2012) and assist leader Caroline Brown (seven in 2012). Most of the team’s formidable back line is also back for 2013. Defenders Allie Sirna, Brittney Wade and Caroline Capocaccia and goalkeeper Julie Eckel helped Tennessee set a new program record for consecutive shutout minutes (533:22) from Aug. 19- Sept. 9.
