¢Like Tennessee, the Dukes are coming off a 2-1 road win on Friday. JMU defeated Marshall thanks to an own goal by the Thundering Herd and Allison Bortell’s match-winning header off Allie Bunner’s corner in the 84th minute. ¢ James Madison went 7-11 in 2012, but finished strong by winning four of its final six matches. ¢ James Madison returns its top two scorers from 2012 in Lauren Wilson (8 G, 2 A last year) and Katie Hyland (4 G, 3 A) ¢ In 2012, three JMU goalkeepers saw action. So far in 2013, sophomore Ellen Forrest has started all three matches, posing a 1.33 GAA with nine saves and a .692 save percentage. ¢ James Madison scored a combined six goals in its wins over Richmond (8/23) and Marshall (8/30) but just one goal in its loss to La Salle (8/25). ¢ The Dukes have outshot their opponents, 49-30, through their first three matches.

NOTEWORTHY NOTES SERIES RENEWED OVER A DECADE LATER
Tennessee owns a 2-0 edge over James Madison in the all-time series, but the teams have not squared off since 2001. ¢ 2001: With the game tied at 2-2 in the 79th minute, Keeley Dowling headed in a corner kick from Sue Flamini. Flamini added another goal in the 87th minute to secure a 4-2 win. ¢ 2000: Down by two scores late in the second half, UT scored twice in the final 10 minutes to beat the Dukes, 2-1. Erica LaShomb had the equalizer in the 80th minute. Tara Minnax headed in the winner off a Rachel Newkirk corner in the 87th minute for the winner.
BIG WIN ON FRIDAY AT NO. 17 UCF
Tennessee is fresh off a big 2-1 upset win over No. 17 UCF on Friday in Orlando, Fla. UCF was ranked No. 17 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire poll and No. 25 in the latest Soccer America poll. The win was Tennessee’s first over a ranked opponent in 2013. In 2012, UT went 2-1 against ranked opponents in the regular season. After a 1-0 loss to No. 1 UCLA, Tennessee took a 1-0 win over No. 11 Missouri and a 1-0 win over No. 9 Texas A&M. Friday’s win over a ranked UCF squad comes much earlier in the season than the 2012 win over then-No. 11 Missouri (Sept. 20).
RANDOM PERSON ON FIELD AT UCF
Friday’s win over No. 17 UCF featured one of the strangest moments in Tennessee soccer history. With 13:20 remaining until halftime and UT trailing, 1-0, a random civilian ran onto the field of play, forcing a
stoppage and UCF security to leap into action. Caroline Brown was playing a ball near some UCF defenders in right side of the Knights’ third when a young woman jumped onto the field and collided with Tennessee freshman Amy Neal. No players were hurt in the ordeal, but the clock was stopped as UCF security rounded up the trespasser and carried her away.
SPADE IS DEALING ASSISTS
Junior Cheyenne Spade has made her presence felt over the first three games of the year. The transfer from N.C. State has four points, including two from assists at UCF off of beautiful free kicks from the left side of the box.
SANTORIO STARTS AT UCF
Sophomore Gabby Santorio made her first career start on the back line in Friday’s win, playing the full 90 minutes.
HOME STREAK VS. NON-CONFERENCE FOES
Tennessee has won eight consecutive regular-season matches aginst non-conference opponents. The streak stretches three seasons UT’s last regular-season home loss to a nonconference foe was a 2-1 setback on Aug. 26, 2011, against No. 8 UCLA.
NEXT UP: DAYTON
Tennessee will next face Dayton on Friday, Sept. 6, in Knoxville. The Volunteers will follow that with a road match at Mercer on Sunday, Sept. 8.
