NOTEWORTHY NOTES 2-0 AGAINST WESTERN KENTUCKY

UT is 2-0 all-time against Western Kentucky and has outscored the Hilltoppers by a combined score of 7-1 in those two games. The first meeting was ¢ Last Meeting - Tennessee 4, WKU 1 (8/19/12): Amy Harrison scored in the third minute and the 34th, Tori Bailey scored in the ninth minute and Ashlee Burt headed in a goal in the 43rd minute.

NON-CONFERENCE SEASON FINALE

Sunday’s match against Western Kentucky marks Tennessee’s final non-conference regular-season contest of 2013. With the exception of the 2010 season, over the past five years Tennessee’s performance during its season-opening run of non-conference matches has been a good indicator of how the team will perform in SEC play. MTSU UPSETS TENNESSEE, 1-0

On Friday, Tennessee came up short in a 1-0 losst at Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders scored in the third minute when Emily Jorgenson punched in a cross into the box from Amalie Anderdal’s free kick. UT had an 11-9 edge on shots and a 5-1 advantage

¢ Western Kentucky is coming off a 2-0 loss at Western Carolina on Friday in Culowhee, N.C. WKU’s previous five matches were played at home. The Hilltoppers have not scored since Sept. 5 when Lauren Moats netted an equalizer against Austin Peay in the 63rd minute. ¢ WKU went 12-5-3 in 2012 and finished fourth in the Sun Belt. The team returned eight starters and 13 letterwinners from last year’s squad.. ¢ WKU has put up better offensive numbers in the second half of matches, outshooting its opponents, 37-31, and tallying a 17-7 corner-kick advantage after halftime. ¢ The Hilltoppers have six players with eight or more shots taken this season. Iris Dunn leads the way with 15 shots with seven on-goal. Caitlin Hessee (11 shots, five SOG) and Haley Baldridge (10 shots, three SOG) have been major factors offensively as well. ¢ Senior goalkeeper Nora Abolins joined WKU this season after three standout years at Detroit-Mercy. In 52 career matches at Detroit-Mercy, Abolins compiled a 0.90 GAA and 26 career wins. In 2012, she was the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year with 60 saves, a 0.55 GAA and a .870 save percentage.

SHUTOUT STREAK ENDS IN MURFREESBORO

Tennessee saw a 331:36 defensive shutout streak come to an end when MTSU scored in the third minute on Friday.

WILKINSON’S GOAL STREAK

Junior forward Hannah Wilkinson also saw her streak of consecutive matches with a goal come to an end on Friday. She scored in four consecutive matches from Aug. 30-Sept 8 vs. UCF, James Madison, Dayton and Mercer. In 2012, Wilkinson scored her eight goals in two four-game stretches.

ROUGH NIGHT AROUND THE SEC

Tennessee wasn’t the only SEC team to be upset on Friday the 13th. LSU suffered a 4-0 road loss to Stephen F. Austin. Memphis hammered Alabama, 6-0, in Memphis. Mississippi State fell at home to Furman, 4-0. Samford tripped up its third SEC team this season, defeating Vanderbilt, 3-2.

SIRNA EARNS TDS TEAM OF THE WEEK HONORS

On Tuesday, Allie Sirna was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week. Sirna has been the backbone of the UT defense this season, anchoring the middle of the back line. Last weekend, she helped Tennessee posted a pair of shutout victories vs. Dayton and Mercer and extended its consecutive shutout streak to 329:12.
