THE STORYLINES WIN NUMBER ONE
• Tennessee recorded its first win of the 2012 season, defeating UC Davis on Friday, 5-0, to advance to today’s ITA Kick-Off Championship match. • Two Lady Vols, freshmen Joanna Henderson and Sarah Toti, recorded their first career dual-match wins. • Natalie Pluskota made her 2012 debut in singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 over UCD’s Dahra Zamudio. She also moved into the top 10 in career doubles wins at UT with 90.
HOME SWEET HOME
• Tennessee has been extremely successful in home openers under co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick, posting 14 wins in 15 tries (.933). Additionally, since Patrick arrived in 1988, the Lady Vols have gone 24-1 (.960) in their first match at home.
y SCORING SYSTEM
THE 600-WIN MILESTONE
• With Friday’s win, the Lady Vols earned win number 600 in program history. All-time, Tennessee is 600-356 (.628).
SCOUTING TULSA
• Saturday’s meeting will mark the third all-time between Tennessee and the Hurricane, with the Lady Vols holding a 2-0 advantage. Tulsa is ranked 22nd nationally and moved to 3-0 on Friday with a 4-1 win over No. 33 North Carolina State. • The two schools have never played in a non-neutral setting. The first meeting, in 2004, was a 7-0 victory in Madison, Wis. at the ITA National Indoors. The most recent contest took place in an NCAA Tournament First Round match in Nashville. UT won, 4-0. • Tulsa’s top two singles players (No. 78 Anastasia Erofeeva & No. 63 Samantha Vickers) are a combined 27-6 and 4-0 in dual-match play.
New to the college game? All that matters is which team gets to four points first. In dual matches, teams first play a best-of-three doubles competition. Whichever team wins two of the three matches earns one point. Teams then play six singles matches, each worth one point. The team that takes four of the seven total available points wins the match. (Note: Doubles matches are eight-game pro sets. Singles matches are best-of-three sets.)

MORE NOTES: ITA KICK-OFF
• This weekend marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Lady Vols will compete in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. • Overall, Tennessee boasts a 6-1 record in ITA KickOff matches, its lone loss coming in 2009, a 2-5 setback to Miami (Fla.). • Since then, UT has won five consecutive ITA KickOff matches and has never lost an ITA Kick-Off contest in Knoxville.
SZEKELY’S START
• Junior Kata Szekely is the only Lady Vol that is undefeated in both singles (2-0) and doubles (2-0) dual-match play. • Szekely opened the season with the highestranked win of her career last Saturday, defeating No. 30 Lindsey Hardenbergh, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (6). She then topped that feat with a straight-set (6-3, 6-2) victory over UNC’s No. 16 Lauren McHale.
DOUBLE THE PLEASURE, DOUBLE THE FUN
• Tennessee has been stellar in doubles action thus far, winning seven of its eight overall matches. The Lady Vols have won the doubles point in all three contests. The duo of Brynn Boren and Sarah Toti lead UT at 3-0, while Joanna Henderson and Kata Szekely are 2-0, and Natalie Pluskota and Caitlyn Williams are 2-1. • The Boren-Toti combination is UT’s only mainstay from last fall, while the other two duos are playing together for the first time. Dating back to Nov. 11, Boren and Toti have won a career-high six consecutive matches. They’ve done it against the best too, winning five of six matches in 2011-12 against ranked competition.
STRAIGHT SETS
• Of Tennessee’s seven victories in singles, six of them have come in straight sets, including all four against UC Davis on Friday.

(On Natalie Pluskota’s return to singles lineup) “When you have the people hanging from the rafters (All-American banners) on your team and they are not playing, that is tough. When she is back in, she gives everybody a lot more confidence. She pushes everybody in the lineup to a spot where they are more comfortable, more experienced and you compete a little better.”
