• The Vols are 42-5 at home against non-conference teams during the Bruce Pearl era. • Friday’s game is the fifth contest of a five-game holiday homestand for the Vols. • Whichever team wins on the glass has won each of the last five meetings in this series. The Vols have out-rebounded the Tigers by 6.2 rpg (46.4 to 40.2) during that span. • During the Pearl era, the Vols outscore Memphis by an average of 3.6 ppg (67.8 to 64.2). That margin increases to 8.0 ppg (64.0 to 56.0) when the series is played in Knoxville. • Wednesday’s game features a dozen players who are Tennessee natives. • Tennessee under Bruce Pearl is 24-16 against opponents ranked in the AP top 25. • After posting a perfect 6-0 record during the month of November, the Vols stumbled to a 3-4 mark in December. Under Pearl, Tennessee is 25-15 during the month of January. • Tennessee and Memphis are among just six Division I programs that have reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in three of the past four seasons (joining Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina and Xavier). • UT and its opponents each have averaged exactly 39.0 rebounds over the past three games. • The Vols already have defeated a pair of top-10 opponents this season, toppling No. 7 Villanova in New York City on Nov. 26 and No. 3 Pitt in Pittsburgh on Dec. 11. Both contests were won in convincing fashion, as Tennessee led for a total of 34:30 in the two games combined. • UT’s Dec. 11 victory over third-ranked Pitt in Pittsburgh was Bruce Pearl’s 450th career win as a head coach. Now in his sixth season on Rocky Top, Pearl owns a 135-50 (.730) record with the Vols. • The Volunteers won the 2010 NIT Season Tip-Off Championship in November at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Tennessee is just the second SEC team ever to win the prestigious NIT Season Tip-Off championship in the world’s most famous arena (Florida, 1987).
