• SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced on Nov. 18 that he was suspending UT head coach Bruce Pearl for the first eight games of SEC play this season. It is, in effect, an eight-day suspension, as Pearl is prohibited from participating in any team activities during the days of those eight contests. • Sixth-year associate head coach Tony Jones is serving as head coach during Pearl’s suspension. • For NCAA official records purposes, UT’s results during the suspension will be credited to Pearl. • Sixth-year assistant coach Jason Shay has handled the Florida scout since his arrival on Rocky Top, and the Volunteers are 8-2 against the Gators during that span. • With his 15-point effort at Arkanas, junior shooting guard Scotty Hopson became the 43rd all-time member of Tennessee’s 1,000-Point Club. He now has 1,106 points in 86 career games (11.7 ppg). • When the Vols hosted Florida last season in Knoxville, Scotty Hopson hit the game-winning jumper in the game’s closing seconds over the outstretched arm of Chandler Parsons. Then last summer at the LeBron James Skills Academy in Akron, Ohio, Hopson and Parsons were among a select group of collegiate particpants. For more about Hopson’s links to the Gators, see Page 2. • One of the top freshmen in the country, forward Tobias Harris has four double-doubles this season, including three in UT’s last four games. • Over the last five games, point guard Melvin Goins is shooting .667 (8-of-12) from 3-point range. • The Vols already have defeated three ranked opponents this season, toppling No. 7 Villanova in New York City on Nov. 26, No. 3 Pitt in Pittsburgh on Dec. 11 and No. 21 Memphis in Knoxville on Jan. 5. All three contests were won in convincing fashion, as Tennessee led for a total of 114:30 in the three games combined (trailed for only 5:30 of game time). • The Vols won the 2010 NIT Season Tip-Off Championship in November at Madison Square Garden.
