• Tennessee is playing its 102nd season of varsity basketball and its sixth season under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Vols lost 49 percent of last year’s scoring, and 41 percent of the 2010-11 roster is new. • The Volunteers hosted and won the NIT Season Tip-Off South Regional last week, posting victories over Belmont (85-76) and Missouri State (60-56) to advance to New York. • The Vols are 5-8 all-time at the current Madison Square Garden. • Tennessee leads its all-time series with VCU 3-0. The Vols are 0-1 all-time against UCLA and 0-2 alltime vs. Villanova. Tennessee has never faced any of those schools during the Bruce Pearl era. • Bruce Pearl has never coached head-to-head against Shaka Smart, however, during Smart’s one season as an assistant under Billy Donovan at Florida (2008-09), Pearl’s Vols recorded a 2-0 record against the Gators. • Tennessee previously participated in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 1992 and 2006. The Vols are 5-3 alltime in the event. See Page 2 for details. • The first NIT Season Tip-Off, known then as the BIG Apple NIT, was played in November 1985. Fourteam mini-tournaments were played in Hartford, Cincinnati, Houston and Denver. The four winners advanced to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals and championship game. Duke won the title. • The Tennessee program has a rich history with the NBA’s New York Knicks. See Page 3 for details. • Freshman Tobias Harris, from Dix Hills, N.Y., leads the Vols in scoring (16.3) and minutes (27.3). • Tennessee was picked by the media to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. Florida was picked to win the East (and the overall league title), while Mississippi State was the media’s preseason pick to win the West.
