• The Volunteers hosted and won the NIT Season Tip-Off South Regional last week, posting victories over Belmont (85-76) and Missouri State (60-56) to advance to New York. • Tennessee is 0-2 all-time vs. Villanova but has never faced the Wildcats during the Bruce Pearl era. • Under Pearl, the Vols are 4-1 against current members of the Big East Conference. UT also will face Pittsburgh (Dec. 11 in Pittsburgh) and UConn (Jan. 22 in Harftord) this season. • In UT’s semifinal win over VCU Wednesday, junior guard Scotty Hopson notched his first career double-double with a team-high 18 points and a career-best 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes. • Freshman Tobias Harris, from Dix Hills, N.Y., leads the Vols in scoring (16.0) and minutes (26.8). • After using stifling defense to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight last season, the Vols are picking up where they left off. Tennessee is holding its opponents to 66.5 points per game and just .356 shooting from the field. The Vols have held three of four opponents to less than 36 percent shooting this year. • Tennessee previously participated in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 1992 and 2006. The Vols are 6-3 alltime in the event. See Page 2 for details. • The Vols are 6-8 all-time at the current Madison Square Garden. • The Tennessee program has a rich history with the NBA’s New York Knicks. See Page 3 for details. • Tennessee is playing its 102nd season of varsity basketball and its sixth season under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Vols lost 49 percent of last year’s scoring, and 41 percent of the 2010-11 roster is new. • Tennessee was picked by the media to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. Florida was picked to win the East (and the overall league title), while Mississippi State was the media’s preseason pick to win the West.
