• Tennessee is playing its 102nd season of varsity basketball and its sixth season under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Vols must replace 49 percent of last year’s scoring, and 41 percent of the roster is new. • The Volunteers and Bears are playing in the third game of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT SeasonTip-Off South Regional. On Tuesday, UT beat Belmont, while Missouri State downed Arkansas State. • The Tennessee-Missouri State winner advances to the semifinal round at Madison Square Garden in New York City Nov. 24-26. The semifinal opponent awaiting the South Regional champion is VCU (3-0), which upset East Regional host Wake Forest 90-69 on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. • In the only previous meeting in this series, Missouri State (then known as Southwest Missouri State) knocked the Vols out of the 1999 NCAA Tournament with an 81-51 second-round win in Charlotte. • Tennessee previously participated in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 1992 and 2006. The Vols are 3-3 alltime in the event. See Page 2 for details. • The first NIT Season Tip-Off, known then as the BIG Apple NIT, was played in November 1985. Fourteam mini-tournaments were played in Hartford, Cincinnati, Houston and Denver. The four winners advanced to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals and championship game. Duke won the title. • The Vols’ roster features 10 returning lettermen and five scholarship newcomers. Returning starters are junior guard Scotty Hopson and senior center Brian Williams. • Vols freshman Tobias Harris leads the Vols in scoring (17.0), rebounding (6.0) and minutes (27.5). • Tennessee was picked by the media to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. Florida was picked to win the East (and the overall league title), while Mississippi State was the media’s preseason pick to win the West.
