• This is Tennessee’s fourth game of the season in a venue used primarily for professional sports, and its third game in an NBA arena. The Vols’ average crowd size away from Knoxville has been 9,713. • The Volunteers are coming off just the ninth home loss of the Bruce Pearl era. • Against Oakland on Tuesday, four Vols scored at least 13 points, and senior center Brian Williams recorded his fourth career double-double (first of the season) with 18 points and 13 rebounds. • Tennessee is in the midst of a 13-day stretch in which it plays five games (1-1 thus far). • Saturday’s victory over third-ranked Pitt in Pittsburgh was Bruce Pearl’s 450th career win as a head coach. Now in his sixth season on Rocky Top, Pearl owns a 133-47 (.739) record with the Vols. • The Pitt win also marked just the second time under Jamie Dixon that the Panthers lost to a nonconference team in the city of Pittsburgh. The Panthers entered that game 10-0. • Junior shooting guard Scotty Hopson earned his second SEC Player of the Week award of the season after shooting 10-for-13 against the Panthers and scoring a career-high 27 points. • Senior point guard Melvin Goins is second in the SEC with 2.1 steals per game. • Charlotte head coach Alan Major is quite familiar with Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee program. For details, see Page 2. • Under Bruce Pearl, the Vols are 9-1 against schools from the state of North Carolina, 1-2 in games that take place in the state and 0-1 in the city of Charlotte. • The Volunteers won the 2010 NIT Season Tip-Off Championship last month at Madison Square Garden in New York City. After outstanding performances in wins over VCU and seventh-ranked Villanova, Tobias Harris was named to the All-Tournament Team and Scotty Hopson was voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Tennessee is just the second SEC team ever to win the prestigious NIT Season Tip-Off championship in the world’s most famous arena (Florida, 1987).
