• The Vols are 42-4 at home against non-conference teams during the Bruce Pearl era. • Friday’s game is the fourth contest of a five-game holiday homestand for the Vols. • Charleston’s second-leading scorer, senior forward Jeremy Simmons, attended the same high school as Vols redshirt junior Cameron Tatum (Tucker HS). Tatum is Tucker’s all-time leading scorer. • Bobby Cremins’ 29 previous seasons as a head coach include stints at Appalachian State (1976-81), Georgia Tech (1982-2000) and College of Charleston (2007-present). Surprisingly, however, last year’s UT-CofC meeting was his first career coaching matchup with the Vols. • Cremins did face the Vols once during his collegiate playing days as a point guard at South Carolina. His No. 1-ranked Gamecocks were upset by Tennessee 55-54 in Columbia, S.C., on Dec. 6, 1969. • During its current two-game winning streak, Tennessee has actually been out-rebounded by an average of 6.0 rebounds per game (35.0 rpg to 41.0 rpg). • Scotty Hopson, Tobias Harris and Cameron Tatum account for 56.5 percent of UT’s scoring this year. • The Vols are shooting .447 from the field at home this season. Tobias Harris averages a team-best 16.3 points at Thompson-Boling Arena while shooting .525 from the field. • The Vols already have defeated a pair of top-10 opponents this season, toppling No. 7 Villanova in New York City on Nov. 26 and No. 3 Pitt in Pittsburgh on Dec. 11. Both contests were won in convincing fashion, as Tennessee led for a total of 34:30 in the two games combined. • UT’s Dec. 11 victory over third-ranked Pitt in Pittsburgh was Bruce Pearl’s 450th career win as a head coach. Now in his sixth season on Rocky Top, Pearl owns a 135-49 (.734) record with the Vols. • The Volunteers won the 2010 NIT Season Tip-Off Championship last month at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Tennessee is just the second SEC team ever to win the prestigious NIT Season Tip-Off championship in the world’s most famous arena (Florida, 1987).
