• Tennessee embarks on its 102nd season of varsity basketball and its sixth season under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Vols must replace 49 percent of last year’s scoring, and 41 percent of the roster is new. • The Volunteers went 1-1 in against a pair of Division II opponents in exhibition play, defeating Brevard College 91-42 on Nov. 3 and falling to the University of Indianapolis 79-64 on Monday. • Sophomore forward Kenny Hall did not dress for either of UT’s exhibition games (sore foot). • The Vols have won 11 straight season-openers and are 22-2 in their last 24 season-openers. UT is 41-2 in its last 43 home-openers and has an 18-game win streak in such contests. • Tennessee is 5-0 in home-openers under head coach Bruce Pearl, and the Vols’ average margin of victory in those games is 27.8 points. The average attendance for those contests has been 20,144. • Friday’s game marks a homecoming of sorts for a pair of Mocs student-athletes. Sophomore forwards Drew Baker (Karns HS) and Sam Watson (Farragut HS) are Knoxville natives. • Houston Fancher, Tennessee’s coordinator of video scouting, regularly faced Chattanooga head coach John Shulman in Southern Conference action when Fancher was the head coach at Appalachian State. • The Vols’ roster features 10 returning lettermen and five scholarship newcomers. Returning starters are junior guard Scotty Hopson and senior center Brian Williams. • Tennessee was picked by the media to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. Florida was picked to win the East (and the overall league title), while Mississippi State was the media’s preseason pick to win the West. • The Vols’ top returning scorer, Scotty Hopson was named to the media’s preseason All-SEC first team and was a second-team selection on the SEC head coaches’ preseason All-SEC team.
