• Tennessee is playing its 102nd season of varsity basketball and its sixth season under head coach Bruce Pearl. The Vols must replace 49 percent of last year’s scoring, and 41 percent of the roster is new. • The Volunteers and Belmont are playing in the second game of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season-Tip-Off South Regional doubleheader. Game one features Arkansas State and Missouri State. • Regardless of its result against Belmont, Tennessee will play in the 7 p.m. ET game on Wednesday. • The team that wins both its games in the South Regional at Thompson-Boling Arena will advance to the semifinal round at Madison Square Garden in New York City Nov. 24-26. In addition to UT, the other three regional hosts in the NIT Season Tip-Off are UCLA, Villanova and Wake Forest. • Tennessee previously participated in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 1992 and 2006. The Vols are 3-3 alltime in the event. See Page 2 for details. • The first NIT Season Tip-Off, known then as the BIG Apple NIT, was played in November 1985. Fourteam mini-tournaments were played in Hartford, Cincinnati, Houston and Denver. The four winners advanced to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals and championship game. Duke won the title. • The Vols’ roster features 10 returning lettermen and five scholarship newcomers. Returning starters are junior guard Scotty Hopson and senior center Brian Williams. • Tennessee was picked by the media to finish fourth in the SEC Eastern Division. Florida was picked to win the East (and the overall league title), while Mississippi State was the media’s preseason pick to win the West. • The Vols’ top returning scorer, Scotty Hopson was named to the media’s preseason All-SEC first team and was a second-team selection on the SEC head coaches’ preseason All-SEC team. • Vols freshman Tobias Harris scored a team-high 18 points in his college debut Friday vs. Chattanooga. No other Vol has scored more points in his UT debut during the Pearl era.
