Big Orange Slices... Off to Our Best Start Since 2007!  At 3-1 overall through its first four matches, Tennessee is off to its best opening to a campaign since also starting 3-1 in 2007. With matches this weekend versus Middle Tennessee and at UNC Greensboro, the Lady Vol soccer team has a chance to equal the best record over the opening six contests in program history at 5-1 done by both the 2002 & 2003 UT squads. Both of those teams eventually won either SEC regular season (2003) or tournament titles (2002, 2003) and advanced on to the NCAA Sweet 16. We’ve Entered the Rankings!  For the first time since Aug. 24, 2009, (#23 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll) the Tennessee Lady Vol soccer team finds itself back in the national rankings. Off to a 3-1 start and boasting a recent 1-0 victory over then-#18 Texas A&M, the Big Orange have climbed to #23 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire coaches poll and to #18 in the SoccerTimes.com listing. The last time UT found itself in the weekly NSCAA coaches poll was on Sept. 9, 2008, also at #23. Check Us Out On the Tube in 2011  Tennessee soccer fans will have three opportunities to check out the Big Orange on television during the 2011 regular season. UT will play at home versus Florida (Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. ET) and at Vanderbilt (Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. CT) live on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS), while the Lady Vols will host Auburn on Fox Sports Net (FSN) on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. The Orange & White has seen a great deal of success on television during the program’s 16year history, boasting a 25-9-3 (.716) record in 37 all-time appearances on the tube. Last season, Tennessee was 2-2 overall on TV with wins over Ole Miss (CSS) and Alabama (CSS) and losses at #13 Florida (SUN Sports) and at #14 South Carolina (ESPNU). Call Her “Caroline Clutch”  Tennessee sophomore Caroline Brown has wasted little time in demonstrating her offensive prowess to open her second season in the Orange & White. The Hershey, Pa., native tallied three goals, including posting the first two-goal match of her career (vs. Oklahoma), with two of those being clutch match-winners as the Lady Vols toppled Kansas (2-1, OT) and Oklahoma (3-1). Most recently, Brown was called upon for another penalty kick, this one against #18 Texas A&M in the 34th minute and she knocked it home as UT posted a 1-0 upset of the high-powered defending Big 12 champion Aggies. The 5-9 forward now owns seven career scores while amazingly, FIVE OF THOSE GOALS ARE OF THE MATCH-WINNING VARIETY. For her efforts during the road wins at KU and OU, Brown received nods as both the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week (8/22) and as one of CollegeSoccer360. com’s Primetime Performers of the Week.

Early Success on the Road Has Often Been Elusive  By defeating Kansas and Oklahoma on the road over Aug. 19 & 21, the occurrence marked the first time that Tennessee soccer emerged victorious from its first two true road matches of the season since back during the 2001 season when UT toppled #13 BYU and James Madison in Provo, Utah, and Harrisonburg, Va., respectively. UT HAS NEVER WON ITS FIRST THREE TRUE ROAD MATCHES TO BEGIN A CAMPAIGN, SOMETHING THE BIG ORANGE COULD POTENTIALLY ACCOMPLISH AT UNC-GREENSBORO. Perhaps every more stunning is the fact that the back-to-back victories at KU and OU marked the first time in program history that Tennessee won its first two matches of the season away from Knoxville (including neutral site contests). The closest the Big Orange had come previously was a 1-0-1 record back in 2009 against #19 Minnesota (0-0, 2OT) and Wisconsin (1-0) in Minne 2011 TENNESSEE SOCCER MEDIA RELATIONS CONTACT Brian Davis | Assistant Media Relations Director | Cell 865.696.7947 | Email bdavis16@utk.edu

The Scouting Report Scouting Middle Tennessee  Tennessee maintains a 3-0-0 advantage over the Blue Raiders in the all-time series. The last meeting between the squads occurred on Sept. 10, 2006, as UT posted a 2-1 (OT) victory in Knoxville.  10th year Middle Tennessee Head Coach Aston Rhoden returns eight starters from last year’s Blue Raider squad that posted a 13-9-2 overall record, a 9-2 mark in Sun Belt play and a league tournament title.  Middle Tennessee is off to a 1-2 start to the 2011 campaign with losses to Dayton (7-2) and Auburn (4-1) and a win over Jacksonville State (1-0). The Spartans play at George Mason on Friday night.  The Spartans have yet to score in 2011, but have plenty of firepower back in senior D Cat Barnekow (4 G, 14 A in 2010), junior F Lauren Heim (7 G, 4 A in 2010) and senior MF Jaimey Etten (3 G, 5 A in 2010).
