TO NOTE... TWO TO TIE, THREE TO WIN OUTRIGHT
OPPONENTS AT A QUICK GLANCE
Following two road wins last weekend, the #14 Lady Vols have put themselves in prime position to win the Southeastern Conference. With a one match lead over Kentucky, two wins would assure the Big Orange of at least a share of the conference crown, while three victories would give UT the title outright. Tennessee has now won nine-straight matches, six of which have come on the road. Entering the weekend, UT is a perfect 10-0 at home. Last year, Tennessee won all but two home SEC matches in the friendly confines of Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee hosts the top two teams in the SEC Western Division this weekend. Friday’s opponent, Arkansas, trails LSU by one match in the divsional standings as it has won six of its last eight matches. This is a crucial weekend for the Tigers, who are looking to claim their seventh consecutive SEC Western Division title. Earlier this season, UT won in Baton Rouge for the first since 2000.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT The No. 14 University of Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team ended its regular season road slate with a pair of victories at Ole Miss and Alabama to improve to 24-3 overall and 16-1 in conference play. Just like the first time the two squads met earlier this season in Knoxville, the Big Orange defeated the Rebels in five sets. Sophomore Kelsey Robinson, junior Leslie Cikra and freshman Tiffany Baker all had at least 18 kills versus OM. Mary Pollmiller set a new career-high in assists, as she dished out 69 helpers and guided the UT offense to a season-high 79 kills. Two days later in Tuscaloosa, the Lady Vols swept the Crimson Tide to extend its winning streak to nine. Robinson recorded her 19th double-double on the year, as she had a team-best 12 kills and 12 digs. She is now UT’s all time kills leader during the 25-point rally scoring era with 466. Junior DeeDee Harrison hit a career-best .733 by connecting on 12 of her 15 swings. Pollmiller also set a career-high in kills with six, as she also paced the offense to again hitting over .300. The win at Alabama also marked the program’s 800th win.
