Tennessee: #2 (10 first-place votes) ¢ ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 (2/25): Tennessee: #2 (4 first-place votes) ¢ Tennessee is coming off a 4-0 showing in the Mary Nutter Classic with wins over No. 11/12 Nebraska, Oregon State, No. 13/11 Stanford and Fresno State. ¢ Ellen Renfroe was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week after going 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA and one save in four appearances. Renfroe also recorded her 800th career strikeout in UT’s win over Nebraska, becoming just the second Lady Vol to reach the 800 mark (Monica Abbott had an NCAA record 2,440). ¢ UT is batting .348 as a team and has three players hitting over .400 in Annie Aldrete (.484 BA), Megan Geer (.465 BA) and Cheyanne Tarango (.405 BA). ¢ Five Lady Vols have 10 or more RBIs. Taylor Koenig leads the team with 12, Aldrete, Madison Shipman and Melissa Davin each have 11 RBIs and Geer has 10 RBIs. ¢ Renfroe has a 0.31 ERA and 7-0 record over eight appearances and six starts. She has thrown six complete games in those six starts and over 45.1 innings of work she has racked up 61 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .135 batting average ¢ Shipman is on a 10-game hitting streak, which is tied for the longest hitting streak in her career. Previously, Shipman hit in 10-straight games from March 31, 2012 April 17, 2012.
THE UNDEFEATED
¢ UT is 13-0 for just the fourth time in program history. UT previously started 16-0 in 2005, 24-0 in 2007 and 23-0 in 2008. ¢ UT is just one of four perfect ranked (NFCA poll) teams left in the country. The others are No. 1 Florida (16-0), No. 3 Arizona State (17-0) and No. 5 UCLA (16-0). Mississippi State (RV, 14-0) is also undefeated. ¢ The Tennessee baseball team is 7-0 and the Lady Vols are 13-0. Tennessee is the only NCAA Division I school in the nation with undefeated softball and baseball teams.
TENNESSEE VS. CAL STATE FULLERTON
¢ Cal State Fullerton owns a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, but Tennessee has won the last two meetings. The teams last met on Feb. 21, 2013, with UT taking a 5-0 win at the 2013 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Madison Shipman was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs scored and Rainey Gaffin was 2-for-2. Ivy Renfroe tossed a complete-game shutout.
¢ The Lady Vols were ranked in the top five in each of the previous two meetings. UT was No. 1 in in an 8-0 (5) win in 2007 and No. 4 in a last year’s win.
