Big Orange Slices... Eckel Closing in on Freshman Keeper Records  Rookie net minder Julie Eckel is closing in on some long time freshman standards in Lady Vol goalkeeping history. Former Big Orange keeper Ellen Dean set the rookie records of 11 victories and 5.3 shutouts back in 1998 in helping Tennessee to a 12-8 overall record. Eckel currently sits at NINE WINS AND FOUR SOLO SHUTOUTS THROUGH JUST HER FIRST 12 MATCHES in the Orange & White, leaving the Cordova, Tenn., native with plenty of opportunity to surpass Dean’s standards down the stretch in 2011. Former Lady Vol GK Sarah Kitchin set the rookie mark for goals-against-average at 1.05 over just 10 matches as a sub back in 2006. Eckel is currently well ahead of that standard in possession of a 0.83 GAA. Happened for the First Time Since 2006  Senior forward Emily Dowd has now accomplished something that no Lady Vol has pulled off since Kylee Rossi back in 2006. What is that feat you ask? Why she’s the first UT player since 2006 to score two goals in a match at least three times in a single season. The Gainesville, Fla., native has already tallied a pair of scores during wins over Middle Tennessee, Coastal Carolina and Arkansas. In fact, since Head Coach Angela Kelly took over the program in 2000, Dowd and Rossi are the only Tennessee players to accomplish it. During Kelly’s time at Rocky Top no one has ever scored two or more goals in a match four times in a year. Closing in on Another Rare Feat  Only once in Lady Vol soccer history have two players totaled 10 or more goals during the same season. That occurred back during 1998 as Allison Campbell (17 goals) and Laura Lauter (12 goals) crossed into double-digits. Well Tennessee sophomore forward Caroline Brown (nine goals) and senior forward Emily Dowd (eight goals) are oh so close to joining that duo in 2011, needing just one and two more goals, respectively. A Career Match & Week for Alexis Owens!  Junior Alexis Owens truly made her first start of the 2011 campaign a memorable one by registering the FIRST TENNESSEE HAT TRICK since Kayla Lockaby turned the feat back on Sept. 8, 2002, and only the 10th in UT history, during the Big Orange’s 4-2 victory over #6 Florida (9/25). She had entered the match with just two career goals over 43 matches to that point in her collegiate career. As a result of her incredible effort, the Carmel, Ind., native also got to celebrate a highly-acclaimed week. The 5-6 forward was chosen as both the UT program’s first-ever Soccer America Women’s National Player of the Week and NSCAA/Disney National Soccer Player of the Week. She was also included on the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, as one of CollegeSoccer360.com’s National Primetime Performers and as the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week. For her selection as the NSCAA/Disney National Soccer Player of the Week, Owens was recognized on FOX Soccer Channel’s live broadcast of the North Carolina-Duke men’s soccer match on Fri., Sept. 30. Brown Approaching the Single Season Top 10  Tennessee sophomore forward Caroline Brown edges ever closer to entering the Lady Vol single season Top 10 for goals, assists and points. The Hershey, Pa., native currently owns nine goals, six assists and 24 points in 2011. She needs just one more score to move into a tie for 10th in UT single-season goals alongside Kylee Rossi (2006), Kayla Lockaby (2004) and Kendyl Michner (1997) at 10, needs two assists to move into a dead-lock for eighth in helpers (eight) and just two more points to advance into a tie for 10th in singleseason points (26).

Making The First Shot Count  The Lady Vols have made a habit of making their first shot really count. Four times over the last six

The Scouting Report Scouting Ole Miss

 Tennessee holds a 9-3-2 advantage in the all-time series versus Ole Miss and is 6-0-2 versus the Rebels over the last eight meetings. UT is just 3-2-1 against UM in Knoxville and tied 1-1 (2OT) back in 2009 at Regal Stadium.  Ole Miss enters this weekend at 5-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in league play with losses to Arkansas (1-2, OT), LSU (2-3) and Auburn (2-3) and a win over Alabama (30). The Rebels also own a close 1-0 loss to current #4 Duke (Sept. 4).  The Rebels own one of the league’s most dangerous forwards in sophomore Rafaelle Souza, who is dead-locked with UT’s Caroline Brown for the SEC lead in goals (nine) and points (24) and is also tied for fourth in assists (six). UM is fourth in the league in scoring with 27 goals but 10th in goals allowed (17). Senior GK Alley Ronaldi has drawen the most time in net with 10 matches played (1.51 GAA, 41 saves, 3-5-1 record, 2 ShO).

Scouting Mississippi State

 Tennessee is 11-2-0 in its all-time series against Mississippi State and has won the last four meetings in the series. UT is 4-1 versus MSU in Knoxville with the lone home loss coming back on Oct. 20, 2000.  The ‘Dogs enter the weekend at 4-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the SEC, but that victory was a stunning 2-0 shutout of #20 Auburn on Oct. 2. MSU has losses at LSU (1-5) and Arkansas (0-1) and a 2-2 tie vs. Alabama.  Junior MF Jasmine Simmons leads Miss. State with three of the squad’s 11 goals. Redshirt junior GK Skylar Rosson possesses a 1.48 GAA, 60 saves and 3 ShO over 11 matches.
