Back in the Southeastern Conference Tournament Again... By entering the league’s annual showcase as the No. 3-seed, Tennessee is now appearing in the SEC Tournament for the ninth consecutive season (dating back to 2003) and for the 12th time overall. UT holds a 17-16 all-time mark in the SEC event and has reached at least the semifinal round in each of the five tourneys since the league switched over to a single elimination format prior to the 2006 SEC Tournament. The Big Orange owns one title, coming back in 2006 as Tennessee downed LSU in the UT program’s only appearance in an SEC championship tilt, 3-0. The All-Time Series Versus Kentucky... Tennessee holds a commanding 31-11 advantage in its all-time series with UK, but dropped two of three games against the Wildcats over March 11-13 of this season (6-9, 10-0, 4-5 in 10 inn.). The series loss to Kentucky marked one of just two SEC series that UT lost in 2011 (at Florida was the other). The Big Orange and Kentucky have faced off only once previously at a neutral site with UT taking a 7-3 decision in Bristol, Tenn., back on March 4, 2000. Since the arrival of Tennessee Co-Head Coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly to helm the program prior to the 2002 campaign, the Lady Vols are 19-5 versus UK, but the ‘Cats have gone 3-3 in their last six contests against Tennessee. We’re Among the Tops in the Nation... The Lady Vol offense has been something special this season as witnessed by its current No. 2 rating in all of NCAA Division I in batting average at .352 (as of May 8). UT also rates 21st in ERA in the country (1.77), joining Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette and Michigan as the only four teams to currently be ranked in the top 21 in the nation in both team batting average and ERA. Tennessee also boasts two of the top 24 hitters in the nation in Raven Chavanne (eighth at .455) and Lauren Gibson (24th at .432). Love That Run Rule! Tennessee has made winning by the run-rule a habit during its 2011 campaign. The Lady Vols have downed 20 OPPONENTS in either five or six innings, including seven in a row to open
